You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

I love a Premier Inn breakfast. I’d be up for that on the taxpayers money.

Enoughnowstop · 10/08/2020 11:35

There is hazard tape around my desk at school. Apparently this is to make me feel safe. I despair

Ah yes, the virus that knows which lines it can’t cross.

Honestly, I think even if we die in our thousands, the public will still find fault. On the one hand I want us to be wrong but on the other, one school closed in every town in Scotland by next Monday would be ideal! (Sorry Scottish colleagues, I don’t wish any harm on any of you).

MrsHamlet · 10/08/2020 11:43

There's a very nice hotel not far from school... if they pay for that and my meals, I might be tempted.

I've just been to Aldi where I was treated to overhearing a parent scream at her child that she "can't fucking wait for [him] to get back to fucking school". Nice.

FrippEnos · 10/08/2020 11:43

I am honestly starting to believe that once teachers start getting ill we will be accused of swinging the lead.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/08/2020 11:46

I'd be up for staying in a hotel at the tax payers expense Grin

I think DH would find it difficult dealing with our kids plus his full time job though as I'm part time so only have wrap around care on 2 days booked. Ah sod it it would be good for him to do the main caring for a change! Grin

I hate to burst this bubble but it would be out of the school budget.

Useruseruserusee · 10/08/2020 12:01

Ah I’d love a hotel but sadly both DH and I are teachers so this would cause an issue with looking after our children. Maybe we could take it in turns? 🤣

I would gladly go and stay in a hotel for the Autumn term.

DH is clinically extremely vulnerable and semi contemplating going to live with his Mum once I'm back to school.

I think he would prefer I go to a hotel, too Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 10/08/2020 12:35

My DH is considering moving into my FIL's flat while me and the kids are at school - partly as FIL is terminally ill, and DH works from home so can work from there and give FIL support without endangering him.
Trouble is that FIL would rather spend his remaining months seeing his DGC and taking that risk.

WhyNotMe40 · 10/08/2020 12:36

The scared teacher thread is now full. And I am bored of arguing with idiots

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2020 12:38

We need to start calling out the obvious bots as pandemic deniers instead of engaging with their twattery.

I just don’t think the HQ at MN care.
noblegiraffe · 10/08/2020 12:39

I’m pretty annoyed that the final post on that thread is saying that teachers need to get their heads together and find a workable solution.

With what power? Absolutely batshit.

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2020 12:42

MNHQ def don’t care. I’ve given up reporting.

We need “my FIL is a headteacher and he says you’ve been sat on your arses for 6 months and fancy another 12 off” should simply get the response ‘You think the pandemic is a hoax, don’t you?’

Piggywaspushed · 10/08/2020 12:44

It's definitely and alarmingly true that some heads think like that. My head would be an example.

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2020 12:45

For sure. But it’s awfully convenient that when ‘I have teacher friends who think x’ was dismissed that the poster suddenly found an upgrade.

I’m still going with the reporting, but fat lot of good it does.

I agree re the hoax line.

The poster saying it’s up to teachers to sort it ourselves was laughable. What exactly do they expect individual teachers to do?

Pay for sanitizer for all of our classes ourselves?
Wear masks despite being told we can’t?

What else could we possibly do?

fuckweasel · 10/08/2020 12:52

Interesting. Nicola Sturgeon admits that they 'got it wrong' with the SQA awarded grades. John Swinney to make an announcement in parliament tomorrow about how they will rectify this. I think they'v realised they can't deal with the tend of thousands of appeals ready to be made!

phlebasconsidered · 10/08/2020 12:53

Perhaps we should just post up pictures of robots at them.
They're utter loons.
A father of one of my pupils to be was on fb posting anti-mask drivel and photographed on protest marches. I'm really looking forward to teaching his utterly non socially distanced child.

And get complained about for being passive aggressive and bring the profession in to disrepute.

Whatever we do gives them more ammunition, MN doesn't care and frankly the only descent thing that has come out of this are these threads by staff which have been hidden only due to the amount of grief we gave MN.

Phineyj · 10/08/2020 13:06

www.hepi.ac.uk/2020/08/10/a-levels-2020-what-students-and-parents-need-to-know/ this is an interesting summary, although one of the posters at the end hilariously concludes that UCAS predicted grades would have been more accurate than the CAGs/algorithm grades. If that is true, we are all in deep deep doodoo!

True-it’s like the flowers. I did like those flowers though.

The best thing to do would be not to bother replying to challenge the lunacy but then if nobody confronts it, it makes it look like no one disagrees.

Phineyj · 10/08/2020 13:08

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2020 13:12

I think we need to look out for each other.
