You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

Apols if everyone has already seen this. Anecdotal, sure, but interesting about a French example and difference between secondary and primary for transmission.

Good news, Us4Them can now channel their energies into shagging Toby Young rather than bothering us.

The photo in that of temp checking with face shield on!

Piggywaspushed · 09/08/2020 16:44

What us it about Sundays and school threads? Do people feel more anxious on Sundays? That would be an interesting study.

Piggywaspushed · 09/08/2020 16:46

Posted that upthread dangling although you wouldn't have known because mine looked like an MSN link. It is all interesting, objectively and alarming, subjectively.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/08/2020 16:46

From the guardian report...

Kamlesh Khunti, professor of vascular medicine at the University of Leicester and a member of the Independent Sage panel, has suggested that UK schools should follow the example of some of the Nordic nations. “In Denmark, the average class sizes were around 20 students prior to Covid-19, but now they are dividing classes into two to three smaller groups,” he said. “They have recommended pupils sit six feet apart and wash hands every two hours.”

Lol.

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/08/2020 16:48

What about the research about young children still having lots of virus in their nostrils despite asymptomatic or low symptoms?

Where does that fit?

mumsneedwine · 09/08/2020 16:55

Ah the other thread is keeping my mind off results day.

Ewwwwww!
ChloeDecker · 09/08/2020 17:02

@Piggywaspushed

People are already using the as yet unpublished PHE report as evidence . With no knowledge of what it says. The media at its finest today.
As soon as I saw the headlines, I just knew that would be the case. Have stayed away from those threads!
TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2020 17:21

Pretty mn avoidant today. Sounds like that’s for the best

monkeytennis97 · 09/08/2020 17:33

Just popping in here to catch my breath from the other threads ..

NeurotrashWarrior · 09/08/2020 18:18

Thanks but it was this one July

Though it's the "nucleic acid and not the infectious virus" so they're not sure of the implications.

starrynight19 · 09/08/2020 18:18

Just popping in to wish all our Scottish staff good luck for tomorrow Flowers

ThrawnCow · 09/08/2020 18:36

Denmark, you say? Yes, let's just do that.

Good luck next week, Scottish contingent.

Lidlfix · 09/08/2020 19:01

Thanks folks. Bags packed, lunch considered, Inservice itinerary perused. All very HmmWe shall see. My DD1 starts her probation year and my heart breaks for her as a fledgling teacher. With appeals (screw you SQA) and COVID protocols the next few days will be nuts. I have a work out your COVID age risk assessment to complete, oh I cannot wait to share my BMI with my (male) PT. Go on then love you show me yours first Blush

Sureitwillbegrand · 09/08/2020 19:11

Just dropping in to wish all the Scottish teachers good luck for tomorrow.
I do keep swinging from mild panic to it will be grand 😬. I trust my SLT and know they have our best interests at heart (as much as the dfe will allow at least!)
On another note if we had a decent textbook it would take away the need to recreate every lesson/worksheet and teachers could just focus on imparting knowledge but there is no money in that.

Piggywaspushed · 09/08/2020 19:13

Goodness me, am I watching a balanced report on BBC news channel? There was a health editor who mentioned adults and older children and the anchor asking lots of sensible questions.

Hercwasonaroll · 09/08/2020 19:15

Bejeezus that trump sounding warrior who doesn't understand SEN is crazy. Who are these people?

Good luck Scottish colleagues. Feels a bit strange waving you off into an experiment that could change all our futures.

Saucery · 09/08/2020 19:18

All the best for tomorrow, Scottish colleagues. Flowers

Mistressiggi · 09/08/2020 19:34

Thanks for the nice messages. Bag packed and "the fear" well and truly setting in! Not that I ever like the first day back but it isn't usually with an extra dose of panic thrown in! I really want to wear a mask indoors but how I feel about it will depend a lot of what others do - my colleagues mostly much younger so might not be so concerned - still I will try not to be influenced. After several weeks now of mandatory mask wearing I'd find it really strange to enter a shop without one, so work feels like a place it should be worn.
Will be using my meter stick to mark out my safe zone at the front of the class SmileSad

AngryAlpacas · 09/08/2020 19:35

Another one wishing you Scots good luck xxx

MrsHamlet · 09/08/2020 19:42

Best of luck, Scotland.

Appuskidu · 09/08/2020 19:44

Yes-will be thinking of you tomorrow, Scottish comrades Flowers.
