You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

The stoners leave little stashes around for each other. So we stick them in the bin because littering is bad Wink

I've just been 'to the shops' - unhelpfully I broke my sunglasses the other day, I can't buy them online. It was pretty much dead. Went to Boots and bought everything we've run out of, and lots of it, Waterstones because it was empty and M&S food for nice things to take to Cornwall. I was one of only 3 shoppers I saw wearing a mask, although nearly all shop staff were wearing them (not M&S, they've not been wearing them throughout).

Danglingmod · 03/07/2020 10:50

Toiletries, books and M & S food is pretty much all the shopping you'd ever need, isn't it? Grin

ohthegoats · 03/07/2020 11:00

Apparently so.

My primary school is going to do year group bubbles (or phase bubbles really since we're all mixed age classes). Over 100 kids, but means we can actually teach some proper catch up stuff with streaming for phonics etc.

Saucery · 03/07/2020 11:12

M&S Envy! I miss my weekly visits to the food hall.
Have a wonderful weekend, ohthegoats.

ohthegoats · 03/07/2020 11:33

M&S has been the weirdest during lockdown. I've been going to Waitrose and M&S because there are more old farts in there, and they go in first thing in the morning. The rest of the day is emptier. BUT, the people who are in there during the rest of the day have been the ones who don't quite 'get' social distancing, or don't quite 'get' picking up food quickly and getting the fuck out of the way/shop.

Men in red trousers, cravats and a mask they are wearing under their nose, shoving you out of the way to get to the green veg.. then spending 5 minutes handing every courgette.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/07/2020 11:56

I went in M&S once. Not quite getting social distancing would be putting it mildly. 😂 Absolute carnage.

RigaBalsam · 03/07/2020 13:18

Were the doctors any help riga? I know it’s not easy to access help for youngsters.

No they gave me the number for Cahms and there is no answer. So hard.

ohthegoats · 03/07/2020 13:26

Samaritans? I know it's for adults, but a colleague at school phoned them for her son, and they really helped just talk things through. Her son is 14.

RigaBalsam · 03/07/2020 14:45

Thanks ohthegoats I will try that and childline. We have Kooth also

noblegiraffe · 03/07/2020 14:57

Was she not even offered a doctors appointment?

Saucery · 03/07/2020 15:58

I’ll second Young Minds. Flowers

ohthegoats · 03/07/2020 16:15

I am Miss 'lower my glasses down the bridge of my nose, eyebrows raised, WTAF face'.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/07/2020 16:23

You might find there are some local organisations that will help too riga. Google might help although most of the ones here I’ve found by word of mouth from other people who’ve used them. The problem is trying to get anyone to see you at the moment.

I tried to use econsult for a MH appointment this morning and it wouldn’t give me an appointment. Just directed me to ring 111 urgently instead.

I wonder if the government have seen this

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay that's a very interesting article! Only published on Tuesday, maybe it hasn't reached Boris yet.... (but has reached Nicola!)

Saucery · 03/07/2020 16:53

There are simply no effective controls to be put in place on school transport.
Think there is one bus that serves 3 schools as well as others for all the individual schools from the end of my road.
Most are from one taxi/coach company.

Danglingmod · 03/07/2020 16:55

Yep, almost every market town in my county has clusters of three senior schools (some two). The students all arrive on the same buses or trains and then split off. It's a disaster.

ohthegoats · 03/07/2020 17:24

Did this get talked about yesterday? Covid surveillance report:

  • 58 incidents were from care homes where 40 had at least one linked case that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
  • 13 incidents were from hospitals where 7 had at least one linked case that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2
• 40 incidents were from educational settings where 18 had at least one linked case that tested positive for SARS-CoV-2

So that's nice.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 03/07/2020 17:30

I don’t think it did, Oh. I think that’s fewer new outbreaks in schools than last week though. Although not by many.

I wonder whether they are clustered in certain areas e.g. Leicester or there’s a more even spread.

Piggywaspushed · 03/07/2020 17:36

'The biggest risk is when lots of people from lots of different households come together in an indoors environment'

I give you the exact words of Chris Whitty.

Piggywaspushed · 03/07/2020 17:37

He in fact said 'high risk'.
