You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to beat us with then please do so elsewhere and not in the staffroom

I saw a photo on Facebook of local Clark's shoe shop. They are measuring a toddler's feet, she is sitting behind a three sided plastic screen on wheels, and the person measuring her feet (through the bottom of the screen) is wearing a mask.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2020 15:34

Teacher Tapp mask question!

The idea that secondary teachers and students should go back with no PPE in bubbles of hundreds is looking increasingly untenable.

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/07/2020 15:36

I just came to mention that mask question noble. I really, really hope they decide we can at least have mask wearing at secondary schools.

Appuskidu · 01/07/2020 15:40

I came on to mention the mask question!

Do we know when tomorrow the guidance is being released? 11.30pm?! My SLT are beside themselves.

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/07/2020 15:45

My slt said Friday?

Mistressiggi · 01/07/2020 15:47

If it's not safe enough to return to work we don't have to. It would be madness to not put in place mitigation that would make staff feel safe enough to return, provoking a dispute with the unions, rather than allowing (or even paying for) face masks etc

WhyNotMe40 · 01/07/2020 15:50

The kids need to wear masks as well though - exemptions allowable obviously

TheHoneyBadger · 01/07/2020 15:57

Exactly. That’s what the science shows and bus drivers can expect (better late than never but definitely too late for those who died).
Appuskidu · 01/07/2020 16:12

@NeurotrashWarrior

My slt said Friday?
Oh, is it? I had it in my head that it was tomorrow. Thank you!
Saucery · 01/07/2020 16:14

Unison asking for safety reps. Tempted. Wonder if No. It’s not safe would be an adequate response to a school situation? Probably not, although true.

ohthegoats · 01/07/2020 16:18

I've got slt tomorrow late afternoon. Typical timing.

You could add the Kahoot! app to Teams - if you go to your team space and look for it by clicking the drop down on the top bar. I've got it. You can then log onto your Kahoot! account via Teams and assign a quiz - can set a start and end date/time on it. My class tried it once and found it was a bit laggy, but it gets rid of the issues with students not being able to log on at a specific time.

What I normally do if I'm using Forms is to create a quiz, then drop a link to the quiz into the specific OneNote page for that lesson. I distribute the page to their OneNotes the day before, but then they do the work during lesson time, not beforehand.[/quote]
Thank you!

Those who miss libraries: lots of libraries let you borrow ebooks. Including my dusty local library. Just use your library card to register.

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/07/2020 16:59

My slt may not be right of course!!

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:08

I heard Thursday. Friday is based on the idea that that's when it has always been thus far...

Piggywaspushed · 01/07/2020 17:09

It looks like Ofqual's consultation on summer 2021 will be out soon, too.

noblegiraffe · 01/07/2020 17:13

Think the Huffpost article said Thursday.

ohthegoats · 01/07/2020 17:14

Gav's speech in the HoC tomorrow I think? Is that right? I only half watch the news.

Appuskidu · 01/07/2020 17:18

Right, thank you! Presume that’s in the afternoon then?
FrippEnos · 01/07/2020 17:32

It will interesting to see if the new shadow secretary is worth anything

NeurotrashWarrior · 01/07/2020 17:32

What a time to start!

ohthegoats · 01/07/2020 17:36

Well, I read somewhere that he was presenting it all 'to ministers on Thursday', I'm assuming it's HoC - can't find order of business for tomorrow though to get confirmation.

We're meeting at 3.30, so it'll be in the media at about 4.15 I reckon!!

ineedaholidaynow · 01/07/2020 17:45

DS's school breaks up tomorrow lunchtime, so guidance will be a bit late for them!

tisaginthing · 01/07/2020 17:59

With this new leaked guidance, does this mean that parents will have to take their children to get a test?
At the moment we have two children self-isolating in the other year group bubble. One I suspect was just trying to have a day off then got told they couldn't be in for two weeks once they said the child had a temperature. No test. A child isn't in from today as they and their dad have covid symptoms. As far as I'm aware, no test.
Meanwhile the rest of the bubble is just carrying on. Confused

WhyNotMe40 · 01/07/2020 18:45

Why wouldn't they get a test?! Confused
FFS. That's not helpful at all. Has it been explained to them that it would be helpful to the school if they arranged tests?

Asuitablecat yes our library does ebooks as well, but their children's catalogue was a bit limited - especially in the early reader category (dd2) while their actual paper book early reader section is brilliant.
