You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

Someone in the civil service agrees with us...

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 19:13

Our school hasn't but I know a couple of local ones who have because, to get all Yr 10/12 in for a week each, in small enough groups, they're starting on 1st June.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 19:19

No concession. They’ve gone from some kind of face to face contact by end of term to back on June 15th.

They’ve taken the piss out of the whole profession plus county councils, transport companies etc making them dance around trying to accommodate ever changing advice.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:20

I agree honey. God knows how transport will be overcome. I can only think all these schools charging ahead with plans aren't school bus schools?

StrawberryJam200 · 24/05/2020 19:21

Actually @TheHoneyBadger the written statement still says face to face contact:

"Secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges will also provide face-to-face contact for Year 10, Year 12 and equivalent 16-19 further education students to help them prepare for exams next year. It is expected this will begin from 15 June, with around a quarter of these secondary students in at any point."

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 19:22

I personally think charging ahead with plans was nuts for secondary schools.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 19:24

All our school's are heavily "bus" schools but I think they've planned the kids by location, so the buses are never more than 1/6 full.

ineedaholidaynow · 24/05/2020 19:25

We have a meeting next week to discuss all the plans for reopening for all the Primary and Secondary schools in our Academy and for the Trustees to sign them off. I bet we won't get the detailed guidance before the meeting.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:25

I find it really unlikely our bus companies will run buses back and forth like that. They are pretty feisty. And they generally do several different schools.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:26

How do you help students prepare for exams next year when you have no idea how much they might miss and what will happen? that is pissing ion the wind for the sake of it.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:34

A gov adviser is now furiously tweeting about how the gov has undone all of their advice and SAGE'ss advice shame he didn't do the same about schools

Quite something!

Cantaloupeisland · 24/05/2020 19:34

Just got back from a walk - is it definitely no earlier than 15th for year 10? We've told all our parents the week of the 1st! Why the fuck didn't they say this earlier?!

ChloeDecker · 24/05/2020 19:49

Why the fuck didn't they say this earlier?!

Quite!

phlebasconsidered · 24/05/2020 19:49

I just got an email from my trust saying that I needed to get a Gp letter saying I am vulnerable and stating specifically I need PPE. Or just go back full time.

My GP will write me a letter but i have to pay twenty quid.

As soon as this is over and there is any possibility of employment elsewhere I am resigning.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 19:52

Piggy - I don't expect the buses will be running back and forth... Just once a day on the normal routes... If the kids have been split by village rather than subject choice etc, it would work.

But, of course, the kids due back in the first two weeks now can't go Hmm

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:56

No, I meant he buses wouldn't only do one day per bus and then be told something different by the local schools with the year 6s...

Some of our bus companies charge parents, come to think of it so I bet that ahs been fun these past few weeks!

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:56

Keep saying this phlebas : UNION

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 19:58

What si your trust's reason why you can't WFH as per DfE guidelines? How are they ensuring stringent social distancing? Where is your risk assessment?

What is your vulnerability if you don't mid saying?

Do these bully trusts actually think most kids want to feel their teacher or TA is being forced in a room with them and put at risk? I know lots of kids who would be upset by that sense of responsibility.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 20:17

Ah, well I think ours are doing a whole week per "bubble" and there aren't primary school buses (well, maybe the odd one but that's a separate issue. We don't have middle schools) so it would just be the normal routes for the whole next half term, just with much smaller numbers of kids.

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 20:26

Interesting that Reicher says they are ignoring the Science. We knew but nice to read it said.

pinkrocker · 24/05/2020 20:29

Re: the buses we have 4/5 minibuses and two small buses because we are so, so rural. You'd have to treble the amount of transport to be able to SD on them. That's not gonna happen because our LA already won't pay for some of our kids to come to our school because there's an academy another school which could take them. Parents will not put with any more, they're already paying for this.

cantkeepawayforever · 24/05/2020 20:43

Am I unreasonable in feeling that, perhaps, the final announcement of the move to further open primary schools on June 1st SHOULDN'T have been done purely as a tactic to try to deflect attention from the misdeeds of the PM's crony?

Maybe, you know, it should have been done as part of a measured, planned announcement on 28th May, after full discussion with all concerned, as already stated?

I just feel that, perhaps, the health and safety of thousands of teachers and other adults associated with school communities should have bee considered with a little more gravitas, not thrown away as a sop to distract the press?

tadjennyp · 24/05/2020 20:46

Not unreasonable at all, can't .
