You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

All this lying on the news at the moment about how Dominic Cummings didn’t do anything wrong, or how he did but it doesn’t matter or he did several times but it was exceptional circumstances etc etc is interesting.

Basically they are just doing what they want and lying about it and telling us it’s ok for them to ignore lockdown but us lot have to do what we are told.

Hardly surprising that teachers and parents don’t trust the same government telling them to go back to school and that it’ll all be fine. It’s all just lies to suit what they want to happen.

Sorry for the rant Angry

Princess Charlotte may stay at home when her classes restart next month because George's year won't be back and Prince William and Kate Middleton want them to stay together for lockdown routine

If true then. Hmmmmm. I don't blame them at all but bet they are worried like we all are.

Danglingmod · 24/05/2020 10:15

Just read that - how can one child go back to school in SW London when they're currently living in Norfolk? They'd have to decamp the whole household to London which is surely against the rules? Or send Charlotte on her own. She IS five (not four like Cummings' kid). She can surely look after herself? Grin

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 10:19

Is Cummings boy going to school next Monday?

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 10:57

There is an 'appalling lack of dental care ' thread now which is turning into another NHS bash. What it really does highlight is how little most people on here care about the risks posed to professionals if they believe they owe them a service.

I know lots of us are concerned but dentists have the highest level of risk of almost all workers in the country but a tooth grinding woman's H is being affected by their appalling refusal to don PPE.

Obviously it is worrying not to have dental care but still GRRR

Appuskidu · 24/05/2020 10:57

I’d like to know that as well, piggy. Is he in reception or not started school yet?

This headline from the Daily Fail is dire. Actually, the comments are worse. People really hate teachers, yet are desperate for us to go back to work to be entrusted with their precious children?! Are we essential or completely shit?

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 10:59

I think he must be EYFS

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 11:00

But summer camps are exactly what many kids will need , not more learning. It's ridiculous.

eitak22 · 24/05/2020 11:03

As someone who had a dental emergency in lockdown and had to travel to pick up a prescription i do feel the dental treatment side of things wasnt well thought through. I ended up spending twice the amount of an appointment for a phone consultation and a temporary filling kit and the longer i go without treatment the worse the treatment will be so i am a little concerned tbh. I don't envy dentists though and can imagine the risks for them are high.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 11:07

What would summer camps entail? We actually have a shorter summer holiday than most places I thought? And we start school young. Are kids to have no childhood at all in UK?

Appuskidu · 24/05/2020 11:11

I think he must be EYFS

Just trying to work it out-can find what month he was born! He was born in 2016 and is still 4, so if he turns 5 before August 31, he’ll be Reception, if he was born September-December, he won’t have started school yet.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 11:12

Emergency dental care should be accessible in hospitals imo. It’s a fucking nightmare trying to access it at the best of times ringing round begging private companies to see you. An abscess anywhere else would be treated in hospital but if it’s in your mouth you’re stuffed if you’re not registered with a dentist or missed a 6 month check up and got taken off their books.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 11:55

I agree honey but this thread wasn't about emergency care.

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 11:58

What it really does highlight is how little most people on here care about the risks posed to professionals if they believe they owe them a service.

This exactly. My daughter has a brace that hasn't been checked. We are not lambasting dentists all over Mumsnet.

Mistressiggi · 24/05/2020 12:04

Does anyone think if we did all work solidly though weekends and holidays for a year to help "catch up" how many of us would be off with exhaustion/stress/burnout/depression by the start of the next year?
Which would lead to children not having enough teachers and falling behind...rinse and repeat.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 12:07

And to catch up to what? An arbitrary point that could be moved anyway.

pinkrocker · 24/05/2020 12:07

Riga my DD has too. It's not been checked since Jan. I'm hoping the wires stay put, as I'm dreading using jewellery snips to cut any wayward wires!

On an aside, we were supposed to be going to Cyprus today for a week after the utterly shite year we've had, losing my OH in Dec. All the family, parents, my sister, everyone. I know in the grand scheme of things it's a drop in the ocean, and nothing compared to the losses others have had but we needed to have this time to celebrate him and give thanks for him & be a family.
Can't do that together even SD in the garden. Which has made what the Cummings did make me so, so mad.

Mistressiggi · 24/05/2020 12:15

Really sorry to hear that Pinkrocker.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/05/2020 12:17

When I was full time I worked most of the weekends and holidays anyway?!? And yes did completely burn out several times.

This track and trace stuff is confusing as one the one had they're saying it's going to be in place on 1st June, on the other there's 10/11 councils who are starting to trial rigourous systems for this.

Which is it? I smell a spun lie....

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/05/2020 12:18

I'm so sorry pink. That's tough Thanks

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 12:24

Have had to do that before was before covid so we got it fixed within two days.

RigaBalsam · 24/05/2020 12:25

Pink I am so sorry.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2020 12:25

I am so thankful that DS's brace came off in January.

pinkrocker · 24/05/2020 12:26

Thanks all Flowers in return.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/05/2020 12:33

Not a drop in the ocean at all pink. I’m so sorry.
