Working Half term holiday

tumpymummy · 19/05/2020 22:59

Presumably most other Primary school staff are in this position? Having to work next week because school is open to key workers kids but not actually being paid for it because it should be holiday time?

No, our school has negotiated with parents and is closing to give us time to go in during the holidays to sort out rooms etc.

pfrench · 19/05/2020 23:10

No, we're not. Everyone broken, we need a break.

user1000000000000000001 · 19/05/2020 23:18

Not here either. Holiday club is running

OhMyGoodLord · 19/05/2020 23:55

Our school has ensured that anyone working in the key worker provision got an uninterrupted 2 week Easter break and will do the same for half term... although they might not be at the usual times.

thunderthighsohwoe · 20/05/2020 07:19

We’ve managed to reduce our key worker provision during half term to give us time to do a deep clean and then set up the rooms ready for June 1st. I know it’s still working, but the constant Seesaw notifications won’t be going on and we won’t be doing too much planning in the evenings so it’s still a holiday in my book!

hen10 · 20/05/2020 07:24

Yep, I am in for the 4 days.

jjejj · 20/05/2020 08:08

Our Local authority decides to close all schools over half term when the government announced opening on the 1st (we've been open for key worker etc all of the other weeks.) Its part of the reopening plan, which incidentally is not opening till at least the 15th June, and then only for one year group as a trial.

jjejj · 20/05/2020 08:08

funmummy48 · 20/05/2020 08:09

Our school is closed for half term.

enidblyton33 · 20/05/2020 08:18

We’re setting less work over half term - which requires limited marking- so we can plan for our return. We’ve worked every week day since ‘closure‘ - including bank holidays- either in school or virtually teaching from home.

CouldBeOuting · 20/05/2020 08:35

I’m in, including BH Monday we did the same over Easter too.

We are on a rota system So not working every day. I’m part time but working the same hours on the rota as my full time colleagues so working a higher percentage of my hours than the others.

None of us think it’s very fair BUT we are doing it for the children.

I’m more annoyed that I am working with children with NO social distancing and their parents too who simply don’t understand that I don’t want coming right up to me ... and they say I’m rude when I take a step back..... but I’m not allowed to see my own daughter.....

eitak22 · 20/05/2020 08:41

Were closed as need to set up for June 1st and all the staff especially ht are exhausted. Plus many of our key workers had booked annual leave so weren't sending their kids in.

SansaSnark · 20/05/2020 11:18

I'm secondary, so not sure if you are interested, but we are open to keyworkers next week. It's being staffed on a voluntary basis and people are only doing one day each. Volunteers are supposed to get a day off in lieu, but I'm not sure how that works in practice.

captainflash · 20/05/2020 11:30

We have closed. I am beyond grateful. I have not had a break since February half term and we are all in desperate need of it

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 20/05/2020 12:17

Both mine are closed, thank god. Exhausted and drained!

AcatcalledCat · 20/05/2020 17:41

We’re closed as our KWs have been able to find childcare. Teachers have optional access to their classrooms on staggered days to prepare for going back. Can’t bloody wait for a break!

user1471468296 · 20/05/2020 20:38

We are opening for one child. Two adults needed. Strange times.

rawlikesushi · 20/05/2020 22:07

We're open for keyworkers, 7:30-6,

It's really exhausting. No breaks at all.

I worked through the Easter holidays ((including the bank holidays) and am working three days of May half term too.

With the planning, 24/7 online support, phone calls home, home visits and video group calls I don't feel like I've had a day off since February half term.

I'm jealous of those of you being given time off in lieu. It's only fair really, since holidays are unpaid.

IHateCoronavirus · 21/05/2020 05:44

CouldBeOuting I’m the the same position regarding working the same hours as full time staff. On the face of it I feel like I can’t complain as they are indeed strange times, yet we’re on half the wages of everyone else!
We have also just been told we won’t be getting PPA time as we are using staff meeting time instead. However part time staff will then be missing out further due to only being required to attend half the staff meetings. So in effect we wi be getting half the ppa of everyone else too! Hmm

blueglassandfreesias · 21/05/2020 07:23

We’ll be open 8-4:30 each day for kw kids but there’s a maximum of 6 kids and a minimum of 1 (sometimes zero)
so it’s not a hard day!

tumpymummy · 21/05/2020 17:49

Wow, a lot of schools closed. I wish ours was. Everyone including the kids need a break. Our Head is too nice and has decided to stay open for just a few keyworkers kids. What annoys me is that if none of this coronavirus thing had happened parents would have had to find childcare for this week anyway or taken annual leave. Some of the kids have been in school every week day since February, they really need a break too.

OP posts:
captainflash · 21/05/2020 22:29

The need for a break for the children was partly our reasoning too. We have had some with no break at all. I really do feel for them.

We opened through all of Easter and the bank holidays. My staff team need a proper rest- no online work being set either and a pledge from SLT to send no emails .

likeafishneedsabike · 21/05/2020 22:35

Why have some schools been setting Online work over school holidays? That seems like an odd decision.

likeafishneedsabike · 21/05/2020 22:42

I’m not sure about this business of disregarding school holidays. We are just people trying to a job, not super heroes. I can kind of see that schools have had to help out key workers who usually use grandparents/family friends/sports clubs in holidays. But setting work online etc during school holidays? What’s that all about?

cardibach · 21/05/2020 22:59

We don’t set work during the holidays. KW children provision is at a hub school so we are in on a rota - some will be in next week, but they won’t have been in for a couple of weeks.
