You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are not staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

I missed out on pub lunches. Gutted. My first job was in a Catholic primary with a nun- in full habit!- as head. She was ferocious.

My mum started teaching in '75 and remembers being allowed to wear trousers for the first time and then only on Fridays! Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 07/05/2020 19:09

Another Xenia classic: Secondly teachers with serious medical conditions, obesity etc may have to resign and be replaced

No such thing as a teacher shortage or disability rights

pinkrocker · 07/05/2020 19:17

Honey I was just going to come on here and say just that. Whoever that X person is you can 109% guarantee they'll be on any teaching thread.
@pfrench I enjoyed reading that, some good responses (and that last one of yours! Grin )

TheHoneyBadger · 07/05/2020 19:37

She’s always pissing off working mums by telling them they just need to get a live in nanny pink Grin. I haven’t really spent time on mn in years so seeing she’s still here and still herself was actually nice bizarrely.

I’ve been on active and read bits of various threads. The whole board feels like an angry bun fight. Was it always this way?

RaraRachael · 07/05/2020 19:39

I can remember teachers not being allowed to wear trousers too. There was a school (small town rural Scotland) that provided modesty panels to insert at the neck of teachers' tops if the HT thought they were a big low Grin

pinkrocker · 07/05/2020 19:48

When I was at uni we were told you should not be able to:
See up it
Through it
Or down it!
There were other student teachers at my placements and they had on thick tights, tube miniskirts, huge sweaters and ENORMOUS scarves, I always felt a right old square in my smart-trousers-and-tunic usual combo. Which I try not to wear now.
Honey if you look for any convos featuring X you will see that they have nothing better to do than lounge around eating naice biscuits and MN all day and be goadish!

phlebasconsidered · 07/05/2020 20:07

When I taught secondary i wore trouser suits with a smart t-shirt or shirt and kitten heels. When i changed to primary it was tunics, leggings or trousers, plimsolls and scarves. So much more time bending down, on the floor, messing about with stuff that makes a mess even in year 6.

My outfit since lockdown has been jogging bums and a baggy top even when in school. I really need to put my work trousers on. But it might make me cry. A lot. Again. I got a lovely poem from a student today and it broke me.

Appuskidu · 07/05/2020 20:17

My lovely old deputy said you shouldn’t be able to see tits, toes or tummies when at work!

pinkrocker · 07/05/2020 20:23

Toes yes! My Y1&2 class were convinced I had only 3 on each foot when I had sandals on. Grin
(Wasn't the best choice of footwear thinking back)

pfrench · 07/05/2020 20:50

I wear birkenstocks to school mostly. Biker boots in winter. At the moment I'm wearing converse, and I can't see that changing. Always jersey dresses, with or without leggings, cardis and scarves. A total stereotype primary school teacher. But it's easy, cheapish and I can sit on the floor or whatever without issue.

Asuitablecat · 07/05/2020 20:55

I used to have different decade vibes going on. In my 20s went all twin set heels and pearls. I'd just look frumpy if I tried that now. More of a Katherine Hepburn vibe these days. I wear a wide trouser better than Bertie Wooster.

MossWalk · 07/05/2020 21:00

I'm a walking stereotype too- Joules and Fatface sale here.

In my first class photo I have on a 90s power suit that seems to be both beige and mint with shoulder pads Grin. You could have put me at any age between 21 and 48.

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/05/2020 21:18

I'm quite a stereotype too. Black trousers and a long top. It's difficult to find nice tips that don't either show too much cleavage or ride up and show my belly. Neither is a good look at school.

Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2020 21:27

Hi I was wondering if school kitchen and cleaning staff could join in.

Everything is fine in my normal school and hub school, both primary. I've been pretty chilled about everything.

It's just been announced that a teacher has died from the high school. We are all devastated.

I am not trying to make any kind of point from this post, I'm in shock that even here in a remote, rural island community covid is having an impact.

phlebasconsidered · 07/05/2020 21:49

Of course you can join, i'm sure. How very awful for you and your school. Xxx

Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2020 21:58

Thank you. I'm all of a sudden in bits. My DD1 is coping great with one of her teachers passing away. I'm not. It's really, really upset me.

I've gone from laid back to getting quite stressed about what I'm doing at work tomorrow 😣

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/05/2020 21:59

@pinkrocker I've also been asked if I have only 3 or 4 toes by the kids on the front row of assembly when I've worn my sandals in the summer.

I did the twinset thing in my 20s and wouldn't do it now. I'm a black trousers and monsoon top or Billie and Blossom dress and tights/leggings these days. And I make sure the dresses have somewhere to clip my ID card on as I refuse to wear it around my neck for fear of bopping a kid on the head or face when I lean over to help them.

One of our staff wears poo coloured khaki crocs. They are hideous!

I've found the press release from Kirsty (Wales) and look forward to reading the release that they put out next week about the way forward for schools in Wales.

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 07/05/2020 21:59

Hello all! Secondary English teacher in Scotland here. I have a litre of vodka and I’m not afraid to use it.

Do secondary schools in England move everyone up a year for a month before the summer? We brought ours forward so have already started teaching next year’s exam classes. Incredibly poor engagement, though - something like 16% of the pupils in my classes showed up this week.

@Tr1skel1on I’m so sorry to hear about that teacher. I hope you’re all being looked after by your employers.

MossWalk · 07/05/2020 22:00

Tr1skel1on How dreadful. School communities need everyone and we feel losses deeply too Flowers

ScorpionQueen · 07/05/2020 22:03

@Tr1skel1on
That is devastating, I'm so sorry. It makes going in so hard, it's not risk free and you're all bloody amazing to keep going.
Of course you're welcome here. Flowers

tadjennyp · 07/05/2020 22:03

So sorry. 🌹

Tr1skel1on · 07/05/2020 22:05

Thank you for the support. I'll get my big girl pants on and get on with it. As you will all know tomorrow isn't a bank holiday!

WhyNotMe40 · 07/05/2020 22:14

So sorry. School communities are like families, it's hard Flowers

RigaBalsam · 07/05/2020 22:34
