Blimey.

Waiting for more details about this.

Blimey indeed. I'm watching and waiting for more details. How are they planning on working that out?

turkeyontheplate · 18/03/2020 17:34

I'm in shock here. What the hell are they going to do?

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 17:38

They said that pupils will get the qualifications they need.

MsAwesomeDragon · 18/03/2020 17:41

And Boris said he wouldn't go into details about how and when. So it's safe to assume he doesn't have any idea about how and when.

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 17:56

What on earth do we tell the kids tomorrow? We’ve been planning online revision work which assumes they’ll sit exams - with no further info, why would they do anything for the rest of the year?

OP posts:
RoseLalique · 18/03/2020 17:57

They already know, Noble. It’s all over SM. Dd is inconsolable.

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 17:59

I know we won’t need to tell them exams are cancelled, but what do we tell them to do?

Other year groups will have work to do. What will they have to do? Revise for cancelled exams?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 17:59

Really worried they’ll be completely adrift and fall apart.

I'm going to teach year 13 their double like normal. I haven't gone to the effort of cramming the rest course into a week to give up now, if only for my own satisfaction.

The exact wording seemed to leave the possibility of exams in July and August, horrid as that would be?

Greenandcabbagelooking · 18/03/2020 18:00

Same @noblegiraffe. Why would my Yr 11s bother with any work if exams are to be cancelled? Or will they be postponed, in which case they still need to work?

Phineyj · 18/03/2020 18:00

The rest of the course

CarrieBlue · 18/03/2020 18:02

Wouldn’t it have been nice if the teaching profession had been informed first? Angry

bookmum08 · 18/03/2020 18:07

Maybe it will be realised that the Yr2/6 sats are pointless and not really needed and that GCSEs need to bring the coursework element back and not just rely on final exams. As for those doing a levels - well they have chosen to do them so should be willing to carry on studying. If they don't bother they obviously aren't that fussed about getting a levels.

Juicyfrooty · 18/03/2020 18:09

They cant expect them to potentially have a few months gap in there teaching and then sit them at a later date though surely.

DS will not learn anywhere close to as much working at home as what he would have at school, especially with all the extra interventions and revision sessions they had going on.

grannycake · 18/03/2020 18:13

The examining bodies already have a procedure in place. It's used every year for students who can't sit an exam for a myriad of reasons. It's predicted grades and they will work with schools to award the qualifications

It's not perfect but it's better than any other scenario

Juicyfrooty · 18/03/2020 18:14

That's reassuring grannycakes thanks

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 18:15

That’s not true for pupils in England, granny, that’s not the procedure at all.

I believe it is the case in Scotland and for IGCSEs.

Today I was asked to provide predicted grades. Usually a quick and unimportant job. Now I am worried - could these be used to allocate real grades? Luckily mine are all on track for 9s and A*s (honest, guv).

ExServiceWoman · 18/03/2020 18:19

My son is fucked if it's predicted grades. He got 2s in his mocks in December. But has been working at least 2 hours a day since the. And I took half term off and spent 5 hours a day with him revising and going through course work.

He probably would haven ended up with 4s. It's a nightmare.

winewolfhowls · 18/03/2020 18:22

No exam marking then.... I usually use this money to survive the summer holidays as a supply teacher

noblegiraffe · 18/03/2020 18:26

Hadn’t even thought about that, wine. Bloody hell.

OP posts:
CarrieBlue · 18/03/2020 18:37

The more I think about this the more angry I am. I’ve spent hours putting together revision packs in anticipation of schools closing. Now what? I have no idea what we’re going to tell the students - if the government don’t know it would have been better to say nothing, if they have any sort of plan it would be courteous at least to tell us first.

FrippEnos · 18/03/2020 18:38

ExServiceWoman

I wouldn't want to use the mocks for any predictions that I would make.
Some pupils are just getting in to the stride with this and I would give a final predicted grade after they finished their NEA.

Hercwasonaroll · 18/03/2020 18:49

I'm gutted about the exam marking money too.

However I'm mostly disappointed for the students who have worked so hard. Mocks or teacher assessment wouldn't be fair. But I can't see another way.

Janemarpling · 18/03/2020 18:51

No performance tables this year.

So not sure what will happen.
