Working out teacher pay.

I have worked for 5 weeks at my new school prior to the summer holidays, my contract starts in September.

However, the pay roll company have split my salary by 52 to give my weekly pay and then x 4 for the first months pay.

Am I right in thinking that teacher pay is over 39 week / 195 day / 1265 directed hours?

I am over £500 a month worse off than I thought I would be.

I don't dispute you feel ripped off. It's an increasingly common situation.

Did you sign anything on your rates befoee the summer? I know of NQTs who have been paid a lower rate when they did 5 weeks before the summer and then they went on to NQT rates from September. Is there a chance the school have managed to get a lower rate past you?

Maisypops no they've paid me on my payscale just divided it by 52 rather than how I thought they'd work it out.

I wasn't given a contract, haven't had one at all for September either. However, I remember as a T. A my contract took months to come through.

I should have checked. I am so cross with myself.

In which case I have no idea why they'd have done that.
It's pretty poor and doesn't set staff up feeling they want to go the extra mile.

Have you paid emergency tax? That can be quite high

GreenTulips no I don't think so.
The gross pay is not what it should be for a calendar month by about £150. They've divided my salary by 52 then multiplied by 4. Rather than pay me for the whole calendar month.

Given that you said you worked 5 weeks they should have paid you 5 weeks rather than the 4 you said they have.

Other than that 5/52 is how most schools would pay you I’m afraid. I know it seems unfair, but that’s the way they do it.
