Anyone looking forward to September?

Just that, really. Starting a new job in a much better different school this year and I am excited and looking forward to the whole thing.

I have spent half my holidays refreshing my teaching knowledge, thinking of different ways of approaching topics and buying in new shiny resources that will come in handy (nothing big, just stickers, stamps and suchlike).

We hear so much negative stuff about the job - does anyone else really look forward to the start of a new year?

Yes I'm really looking forward to going back. Just to my regular job, no change imminent.

I haven't done ANY work yet though, so I'm about to have a busy 10 days!!

Wormzy · 24/08/2018 11:13

Are you primary or secondary?

I won't get my keys etc. until the first day back, so can't really prepare much more right now. But I am bursting with excitement - my own, fully refurbished room, new classes, new colleagues and a HT who seems brilliant to work for.

DH doesn't understand why I am doing anything at all and constantly calls me a workoholic.

Primary, but I do a specialist job, I am not a classroom teacher (although I do teach).

I can't plan more than a couple of days ahead for the children I teach as their learning style is too complex. I do have a lot of paperwork that needs doing next week though. And a Masters essay...

mangomama91 · 24/08/2018 16:26

Me!
I'm so excited! I'm going back to work as a LSA after three years of being a SAHM / casual hours and I cannot wait!
I was an LSA before and I'm working on becoming a teacher in the future which has always been my dream so I am so so excited!!!!

ninnypoo · 24/08/2018 16:52

I'm excited. I love fresh starts each September- new class, new room. So much potential!

rainbowfudgee · 24/08/2018 16:56

Very excited here! I have a new job and there are so many positives. I've been in a few times - everyone is really nice. Can't wait!

NoNameIdeas · 24/08/2018 16:57

Me! After a year in upper ks2 I'm moving back to ks1...cannot wait! Think I'll need a new pencil case to celebrate!

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/08/2018 17:21

I'm quite looking forward to going back. Same school but different classroom, new classes (secondary), seeing all of the new year 7's and getting to try some new ideas. I'm doing the NPQML this year as well which I am looking forward to.

I've loved the holidays but always get quite excited about September -that 'fresh start' feeling.

That said, I do get start of term nerves a few days before I return!

cardibach · 24/08/2018 21:29

This will be my 30th year of teaching. I have often felt sad the holidays are ending, but for the first time this year I really, really don’t want to. I don’t know how many more times I can face the wheel of the academic year.

Mistoffelees · 24/08/2018 21:34

I'm excited for the changes I've made to my
nursery classroom and to see how it works out but not excited about the first term where we will inevitably have a couple of children crying each session and at least 5 accidents (wee and poo) to deal with each day with only 2 members of staff 😒
I also have a load more stuff I wanted to get done this holiday that I just haven't had time for so on balance another few weeks off wouldn't go amiss Grin

Wormzy · 25/08/2018 07:06

The holidays are never long enough to get everything on the list done Grin For the first week or so we're usually still in the getting-stuff-done mode and sort out things around the house that have been left until the holidays arrive, but after we've been away for a few weeks I find the laziness sets in.

I need the buzz of school life and the routines it brings, despite all the stress that inevitably come with it. I've had a rubbish few years at various workplaces, but somehow still love the job.

So glad to see there are more of us.

Weirdly I'm also looking forward to going back. I'm starting to crave structure and routine.

PotteringAlong · 25/08/2018 07:26

I’m going back full time after doing 3 days a week. My children are 6, 4 and 18months old. I’m bricking it. Grin

Olivo · 25/08/2018 18:41

Me! Left my old stressful job after many, many years, luckily with good results, and off to pastures new. Really excited, slightly new direction. I have just about finished sorting my new classroom and am working a2y at new SoW etc. Really excited!

Rosieposy4 · 25/08/2018 21:20

I’m quite looking forward to going back. Of course I will miss lazy days riding and drinking coffee with my mates but i need to get back to some structure, and my classes this coming year on the whole look a heap nicer than last years.

wentmadinthecountry · 26/08/2018 00:48

I'm excited but know it's going to be a hard term for us. Have booked a half term break to Barcelona in anticipation!

Room done, planning done, clothes hanging up ready, managing people planned so off to France for (nearly) a week of glamping and reading trashy novels on Monday.

I am definitely of the work hard, play harder school of thought. Just wish I could switch off though.

leccybill · 26/08/2018 01:05

Me! Going back to a lovely school I've worked at before after a year in a soulless academy and I can't wait to get stuck in!
Love September anyway, new shoes, new books, all that eagerness.

PumpkinPie2016 · 26/08/2018 07:46

It's so nice to hear of so many people looking forward to going back! There's often a lot of negativity around teaching generally so this thread is nice Smile

Nuffaluff · 26/08/2018 07:53

I’m looking forward to going back for the routine. My own kids need it!
I’m just going back to my normal part time job with my lovely jobshare partner and everything pretty normal. It’s all good.

PotteringAlong · 26/08/2018 11:54

I’ve just been to buy my new pencil case (a yearly ritual!). Now I’m ready Grin

MaisyPops · 26/08/2018 11:58

Me!
I love my holidays and have been busy doing all the stuff I never get done in term time.

But I'm looking forward to being back.

By week 7 of an 8 week half term I won't be saying the same. Grin

Bubblysqueak · 26/08/2018 12:06

Me !! I'm starting a new role away from teaching in a lovely school and can't wait. I stupidly hadn't even thought about a pencil case (as I usually have a classroom to dump store things in.
This role I won't have a permanent base and will be visiting 3 other sites so I must get a pencil case and new bag, shoes, outfit, stationary, anything else I can think of

CaptainBrickbeard · 26/08/2018 12:07

Yes! Starting at a new school and really got into some prep work yesterday, I was surprised at the buzz. Really happy with my exam results, excited about something new and tbh I have had really big family holidays which have been fun but I am craving early morning starts, autumnal weather, healthy food and also the mega anticipation of my day off this year as my youngest starts school as well so for the first time ever I will have a day at home ALONE. I am so ready!

nuttyknitter · 26/08/2018 12:16

I'm retired now but I do miss all those pristine uniforms and shiny shoes!

cloudyweewee · 27/08/2018 12:20

No, I'm not looking forward to it at all. I work at a lovely one form entry Primary, where staff are friendly and the SLT are pretty supportive. The kids are well behaved and there are only a few troublesome parents. But I would still rather not have to teach. I suppose it's because I have been doing this job for 30 years and am fed up with doing it. Once I'm back, it will be fine but I can't say I'm gripped with excitement.
