What behaviours really annoy you!! (light hearted)

Mine are :-

Teenage boys hiding each others things and finding it hysterically funny!
Children who with plenty of work to do in Year 11 saying to you "I'm bored".....like I'm some kind of performing seal there to entertain them and not help them pass exams.

Playing Hangman and they guess z first.

"Miss! Miss! Miss!" when you are clearly talking to someone else - do people not teach their children about not interrupting anymore?

Continually sucking on bottles of water and then being unable to wait for break to go to the toilet.

I second the 'Miss, Miss, Miss' when speaking to someone else. I usually eventually say to them 'I am speaking to someone, please wait until I have finished and then I will help you' and they often go 'oh' as if they didn't realise I was busy before I said it

Kids who follow me around the classroom - usually year 7.

Kids who try to get away with not tidying up after themselves at the end of the lesson and look at me in horror when I tell them they need to tidy up! I swear they think we have magic fairies who tidy classrooms.

Agree with all of these! The fidgeting gets to me... tapping of pens and rulers, carving their rubber up with scissors, sucking on their bottle and then pissing about with it!

Miss miss miss! is on my list too.

Hand waving. I love their enthusiasm, but creating a force 10 gale with their hand isn't going to make me pick them first.

That was going to be mine! Or when they kick their shoe around under their desk. I had a boy almost cry because the fire alarm sounded and he had to quickly put his shoe back on.

Drinking and needing the loo when it's not allowed in lesson time and they know it.

I can see a hillside sheep farm from my classroom window, which is lovely, but I'm pretty sick of kids going 'look a sheep!' like they've never seen a sheep, or noticed the hlflock that is usually on the hill

Oof piggy, that does sound worse! Although we did have a dead sheep once, you still win.

What about when you tell them to do something (take your jacket off, sit down, open your book) and they reply

Kids who put the lid back on the glue without winding the glue back down first. Then the next kid opens the glue and there’s none in there because it’s stuck to the lid instead.

I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH GLUE STICKS FOR YOU TO PISS ABOUT WITH THEM

Glue stick should be valued like a natural resource noble. Not putting lids on glue annoys me too.
Now I save the lids of glue that have ran out so I always have half a dozen spare lids.

The tragic thing is someone will probably turn up a few pages into what is clearly a light hearted thread and say 'you are all awful. No wonder students hate school. I hope my DC never get taughy by you'.

Another one of my bugbears “I can’t do it because I don’t understand it”. Of course you don’t, it had taken a few hundred years of the best human brains to develop it to the form it is now a day and you want to understand it after 20 minutes. I don’t get the obsession with understanding before doing something. It is true that you need it in many cases. However, there are times when trying to do some baby steps first would be more useful.

When I turn a slide over and you can guarantee one of the pupils will put their hand up and say
'what do I do now I don't understand'

I do supply and quite a lot in FE. There seems to be a lot of 'research' units and the lower the level of the student the more ambitious the project.

I'm going to 'do abortion
Don't you think that's huge topic to research over three weeks?

Yes but you need to pass, and this is level 1 so why not research something simpler like looking at the canteen food, is it healthy?

No some people don't. I've got a (lovely) friend who has an 11 year old (as do i) I can be mid sentence but if he speaks she will instantly ignore me and attend to what he wants. She's always done this and never told him to wait. Bloody irritating.

sash that resonated with me. I used to teach the late, much lamented A Level comms and they used to want to do ' the representation of women' across the whole of the 20th century in every form of media , or 'feminism' or ' racism'. their word limit was 500 words at AS...

In A Level film, they would try to do ' the complete works of Spielberg' or 'Hollywood '

There were 'loud shoppers' in Sainsbury's just now. A woman with three children talking vvvvvvvvvv loudly about what doughnuts to buy for a girl's 12th birthday treat (I could give you more detail about the incredibly middle class things they intended to do with the doughnuts). I often encounter people loud shopping with children and I do think loud voices (I have seen there is a thread on this but haven't dared look at the bun fight) are on the rise. Literally.

Glue stick flipping.

Losing my glue stick lids.
Letting the glue sticks go on the floor and then crying that the glue sticks are hairy. Rolling the glue sticks all the way up and then using too much on their work and getting glue all over the lids when they push the lids back on.

Throwing glue at the ceiling.

I sound fixated on glue sticks. I am!
