Just wondered! Those of you who have had babies, how long did you work for? Early days for me still but thinking ahead!

33 weeks with twins. Born at 36 weeks over 6lb each. I left when the kids started eyeing my with horror ans discussing who would deliver the babies as it looked like i was going to explode!

38 weeks

But weeks 28-34 were summer holidays

35-38 no teaching time, but as head of large department a lot of setting up for the year ahead.

Dd cam just prior to 40, I had a very supportive school!

I wanted to go until 37 weeks (Easter hols) but i was too exhausted anc anxious, so went at 35 in the end. Dd was born at 40+5. I'm really pleased I had that time to relax, do wome batch cooking and get everything ready for her.

I worked til 37 weeks- which happened to be the beginning of the summer hols. Could have gone another week or so but was glad to have a bit of time before baby arrived.

I worked till 39 weeks. Bloody stupid idea, but my mat cover couldn't stay till after the half term so I was subtly pressured to "think of the kids" and stay till that half term holiday. I was having Braxton Hicks pretty regularly at school and was convinced I would give birth at school ( my department had a plan of people lined up to drive me to hospital if I needed them to).

My advice - stop earlier than 39 weeks!!! It's madness to carry on that late, but it depends if you want more time afterwards with the baby.

36 weeks and not a minute too soon!

oldfatandstressed · 01/12/2017 22:07

40 and 39, but it was really, really hard the second time!

Krapom · 01/12/2017 22:09

39+6 first time, 39 second. First much easier than second but 1st child still under two.

34 weeks with dd1 - it was the Christmas holidays. I started mat leave on the first day of the spring term and there was a week of snow days. I was really cross because I could have ‘worked them’. DS I was 39 weeks and he was 5 days late.

First time 37 weeks, but didn’t end up having my baby 42+5!

Second time 36 weeks and unexpectedly had my baby at 37 weeks...
