How many weeks pregnant did you teach until?

Just wondered! Those of you who have had babies, how long did you work for? Early days for me still but thinking ahead!

32 the first time as I had a September baby so stopped in July before.

36 the second time. I wanted to get to half term which would have been 39 weeks but just couldn't face the commute (the teaching side was fine)

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 19/09/2017 22:05

DS - taught until 2 days before hitting 36 weeks. I wasn't going to the end of term (10 days before EDD) and glad I didn't because I would have given birth 8 days later PLUS I was found to have issues a week after going on Mat leave and glad I wasn't at work as I felt it would have compromised the pregnancy (plus I broke my little toe!)

DD - I taught until I was 34 weeks but due to half term and turning 35 weeks 2 days after half term started (Sunday) I was actually 36 weeks (following Sunday) when Mat leave began. DD bloody arrived at 36 weeks and 5 days gestation!

Future pregnancies will now be a miracle (snip) plus I was told another pregnancy would be very high risk (uterus shattered) and 100% definite C section (both kids were due to complications and after DD it was just as well!) at 32 weeks because my uterus wouldn't carry beyond. So I'd be hypothetically starting Mat leave at 29 weeks but possibility on sick leave before that.

Burgundy book does state that school cannot force Mat leave before 36 weeks even for pregnancy related illnesses. So DO NOT let them force you (anyone!) Colleagues didn't read their burgundy books and one was forced into Mat leave at 31 weeks due to gestational diabetes. I was quite clued up about my rights and I was sick from week 15 to week 30 throughout DD's pregnancy and they KNEW they couldn't fool me!

36 weeks officially, but the last two were Easter holidays. DS was late, so I had a good break before he arrived. I could barely get up and down from KS1 chairs when I left.

Hugepeppapigfan · 23/09/2017 23:27

33 weeks. I was supposed to go to 37 but baby arrived early!

123fushia · 23/09/2017 23:33

I finished 11 weeks before birth. Tried to keep going in Y3 but SO tired. X

WyfOfBathe · 23/09/2017 23:37

38 weeks and a few days. Around 30 weeks I felt awful (tired, aching) and couldn't wait for mat leave, but decided to stick it out and felt a lot better by about 35 weeks. Not sure if this is normal or if I had a bug.

One of my colleagues planned to work to 39 weeks but had to leave midday at about 35 weeks when she realised that it wasn't braxton hicks she could feel!

JustCallMeBaldrick · 23/09/2017 23:42

32 weeks with twins (but only because I was determined to get to the end of the Christmas term!!)

PickAChew · 23/09/2017 23:42

Only 16 and I was ill for much of that.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 23/09/2017 23:54

37 weeks both times, half term fell conveniently both occasions so worked until then!

This is worrying me too. I'm pregnant with DC3, but I wasn't a teacher when I had my other 2... DC 1 came at 38 weeks, DC2 at 39. Problem is i teach year 2 and it's sats just before my due date. If I stay till 38 I'll be there for sats, but it'll be very pressured... not sure it's realistic.

TheOctagonHouse · 02/11/2017 06:58

37.5 and commuting into London

stargirl1701 · 02/11/2017 07:06

I had both of mine shortly after the summer holidays so was off, although not on mat leave until after the summer, at around 32/33 weeks.

sailorcherries · 02/11/2017 09:34

34 weeks as it was after the Easter holidays and I was struggling, anemic with spd and continuous sickness made for a horrible time. However I actually stopped at 32 weeks due to the holiday.

Malbecfan · 02/11/2017 11:00

37.5 weeks with child 1. Included a commute of 55 miles each way. Baby born 10 days after I finished.

37 weeks with child 2 as it was the Easter holiday. I hoped to go in for the first week back but DD2 had other ideas and arrived 6 days after term ended. I did go in for my year 11s, taking an 11 day-old with me...

CarrieBlue · 03/11/2017 08:17

DS - 31 weeks, stopped work, 37 weeks started maternity leave (summer holidays, baby born 41 weeks)
DD - 36 weeks started maternity leave (baby born 39 weeks), did 3 weeks after summer holiday

jimmyjammyjumbo · 03/11/2017 08:39

I taught until 33 weeks but then officially left after a holiday so at 35 weeks. It was just easier to hand over before the new term started and I knew I probably wasn’t going to go back. I was ready to go then but I think the last part is a slog anyway for weeks. It all depends on when you want to go back/how important it is to you to have a rest before baby arrives. I’ve had babies arrive at 41 and 38 weeks so you never know how long you will get! It also depends on time of year! I could have gone longer in the summer term when all exam classes have gone, but not enjoyed the more manic times of year and excessive marking.

vlooby · 03/11/2017 18:40

38 weeks. Could not have done any more! She was born 40+2

OneOfTheGrundys · 05/11/2017 17:09

38 for me but from 36 I was office based as my mat cover had arrived and there were TT issues.
It did for me though!

Mammyloveswine · 12/11/2017 15:02

38 weeks with DS1 (officially started maternity leave after the Christmas hols at 40 weeks).

Will be 38 weeks plus 2 days with new baby again officially starting maternity leave on my due date in the new year! I'm in nursery, it's tough also having a toddler at home! 6 weeks to go...

MrsBartlettforthewin · 12/11/2017 15:10

1st time 37 was easy pregnancy barely noticed I was iyswim.

2nd 36, bit harder pregnancy had SPD near the end.

3rd 32, horrendous pregnancy crippling SPD from about 18 weeks was on crutches from about 24 weeks teaching was hard and came home crying most evening because I felt I was letting my pupils down.

IchFliegeNach · 13/11/2017 06:44

38 - but straightforward pregnancy and very supportive school (no teaching duties at all by the end!)

Wait4nothing · 13/11/2017 07:03

I tried for 39+1 but managed 38 last time (only managed 4 days after 2 weeks off)
Planning around the 35 week this time (I know from experience I’ll still be expected to work in a ks1 class at that stage)
