Blazers tomorrow?

Is anyone's school relaxing uniform in view of the high (30 degrees or higher in the South East) temperatures?

Mine (secondary) is not, for some strange reason. Poor kids will be hot, sweaty and smelly clad head to toe in black polyester blazers, ties and trousers.

It would surely be better to say no blazers, or better yet, PE kit.

I hope the staff all have to wear jackets as well. I've seen teachers in all sorts at DC school - vest tops and tattoos I one case and the poor kids melting in their nasty polyester

Shirt sleeve order will be announced at my school first thing I expect.

samegamedifferentname · 18/06/2017 17:58

Ours isn't, because we're in the highlands of scotland and it's cold and raining Grin

DoctorDonnaNoble · 18/06/2017 18:00

We're usually strict but go to shirt sleeve order for the last half term. There will still be some students with not only blazers but sweaters underneath the blazers!

alltouchedout · 18/06/2017 18:02

Why would it not be normal accepted practice for a child who is hot to remove their blazer? I would have an enormous argument with a school which tried to insist my child wore a blazer in hot weather.

MrsKCastle · 18/06/2017 18:02

Ugh. I have a vivid memory of being shouted at to put my blazer on as I left secondary school on a hot day- the rule was that we had to wear blazers until we got home. The teacher shouting at me taught PE and was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

Bobbybobbins · 18/06/2017 18:04

We have gone to shirts rather than blazers from last week, thankfully. It would be utterly ridiculous not to!!

NapQueen · 18/06/2017 18:05

At my school we could only remove blazer inside the classroom once permission was given. Walking through the corridoors and to and from school blazers on.

elephantoverthehill · 18/06/2017 18:06

We had 'blazers optional' on Thursday and Friday last week and I expect it will be the same for next week. It's strange though the number of students who still want to wear a jumper, they find the concept of the jumper always being optional but never instead of a blazer Confused

Greenandcabbagelooking · 18/06/2017 18:11

Blazers can be removed in lessons, but in theory need to be on when moving round school. It's just another thing to carry round, as no shirt sleeve order has been given yet!

Mind you, no blazers means no one has a pen, because blazer pockets double as pencil cases!

I wouldn't want my DD to go to a school that insisted on blazers all the time, especially in hot weather! Ridiculous, it can only be a power trip on the part of the headteacher.

youngestisapsycho · 18/06/2017 18:12

DDs school sent an email last week.... students don't have to wear their blazers for the rest of term. Still wearing shirts and ties though.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/06/2017 18:15

What is the thinking behind having to wear a blazer in a heatwave?Confused

bobblyorangerug · 18/06/2017 18:18

I hope the wanker who enforces this rule wears a thick suit jacket all day long.

Not acceptable.

NC4now · 18/06/2017 18:19

DS school don't have blazers but their jumpers and ties will come off tomorrow and shirt sleeves rolled up. That's summer uniform adjustment. It's fair, I think.
His old school was ridiculous about blazers in all weather.

ScarletSienna · 18/06/2017 18:24

Blazers are utterly ridiculous in this weather. i absolutely cannot fathom an argument that would be reasonable for them.

elephantoverthehill · 18/06/2017 18:27

Quite right Green we always need to hand out loads of pens and pencils on mufti days.

bunnybleu · 18/06/2017 18:33

My Year 9 DS is wearing long sleeve shirts to school at the mo because they are allowed to roll up long sleeves, but not allowed to roll up short sleeves. They are expected to wear their blazers to school but don't have to wear them in lessons when it's hot.

leccybill · 18/06/2017 18:34

Yes, why DO some teens insist on a jumper and blazer when it's 30° ??!

GreenTulips · 18/06/2017 18:37

Don't for get no lunch cards or locker keys

elephantoverthehill · 18/06/2017 18:40

Perhaps they are wearing those jumpers with a 'fake' collar that were fashionable in the '70s Grin. I think sometimes it may be down to inappropriate bra colour, a not very clean shirt or worries about B.O. Or maybe it is because they are teenagers and prefer to wear beanies in the summer and no coat in the winter.

GuinefortGrey · 18/06/2017 18:41

One of our local secondaries has sent out a message saying pupils may attend in sports kit tomorrow due to expected high temps. Very sensible and considerate of them.

Unfortunately my DCs school have not relaxed the code so it will be shirts, ties and school jumpers until staff give permission for jumpers to be removed (hopefullly!) Confused

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/06/2017 18:55

we went summer uniform after easter. the next week will be arguments about wearing trousers instead of shorts.

Migraleve · 18/06/2017 18:56

My Year 9 DS is wearing long sleeve shirts to school at the mo because they are allowed to roll up long sleeves, but not allowed to roll up short sleeves.

I have tried but I cannot for the life of me work that out. The whole point of short sleeves is that you don't have to roll them up! How could you possibly roll long sleeves to the point where they were shorter than short sleeves? Even if you could you would swear your life with the extra rolls of material round the upper arms Confused

OP, I never knew until I read this thread that there were schools so bloody stupid in our country. Ours have blazers but they also have common sense and allow the pupils to self regulate their temperature as much as thy can

BoneyBackJefferson · 18/06/2017 18:58

Migraleve

Long sleeves, rolled up to mid to upper arm

Short sleeves, rolled up to above the shoulder.
