0.9 as an NQT?

Has anybody done this ? I am starting look at a jobs for September which seem to have started appearing in the last week on local council jobs page. I would like to be able to leave perhaps an hour early twice a week to pick my DD up. Would this equate to a 0.9 contract ? No idea if it will be allowed or not but thought I may as well give it a shot. I'm primary if that makes any difference.

Yes I think so thank you pottering so it would maybe take me 4 terms or thereabouts to qualify rather than three?

I don't suppose anyone has a link to a salary calculator or anything I'm trying to work out how much difference a 0.8 salary would make ? I'm in greater London so I think my starting salary is around 26k for FT so would be about 21k is that right ?

I'm a full time primary teacher and I leave by 4pm a few times a week to spend time with my kids. I then work evenings at home, like all teachers who are parents do. My early leaving days are not fixed though, as you never know what may come up in the day or if you need to see parents. Even on a Wednesday- which is my dash day as I take my DD swimming, I have had to cancel a couple of times. I have been teaching for a few years and so am trusted as I perform- as an NQT I never left early to get my children as it would have been frowned upon. Good luck! Once you have proved your value, teaching can be more child friendly- a supportive SLT is essential in my opinion.

Primary schools have to meet the entitlement to MFL (it's statutory but no guidelines about quantity so provision is still patchy and variable). Primary teachers are hesitant to teach it (understandably) so many schools use external provision. I write my own SOWs but other than that, no marking, planning, data or meetings so it's brilliant.

Can I ask how you got into doing that?? Sounds great !!

My DH is a primary school teacher and he leaves early one day a week to pick our dds up at 3.15pm and another day he leaves by 4pm to pick them from an activity. He simply asked his HT if it was doable and she agreed his TA sees them out on his early finish and he just leaves as soon as the children do on the other. I don't know of anyone else who does this though and he teaches at a tiny school.

Needmorewine Did years in secondary inc some outreach provision to feeder schools. Was Y6>7 transition co-ordinator which helped. Built up links with heads, then started out alone. Did a few lunchtime clubs voluntarily to further experience and build up. Now have 6 schools alongside a long term 0.4 supply job in a high school. Best of all worlds. Teach full time, do pick ups 3 days a week and pick up from after school club at 3.45 other two days and haven't been to a meeting since inset in Sept!

At Dhs school they employ a MFL teacher I think she just does afternoons, they also employ a science and maths specialist as well. A friend of mine did intervention work in her NQT year so no class of her own she did that for a few years. She struggled to transition to full time class based teacher though as her salary was higher than RQTs but she didn't have the experience. Eventually a job came up at the school she was at and she got that.

Well, I do this. I work '0.9' which in reality means I do 8.30 - 3 x3 and 8.30 - 4.30 x2. As DS goes to a Prep which has longer days this enables me to do all the school runs bar the two nights he does an activity after school.

However, I am senior and work in a very niche, hard to recruit to role.
