Are people striking?

OP posts:
IceMountain · 29/06/2016 20:01

Well, it looks like they are winning...

Bring on the apathy.

The wails of 'what about the children'

It's your future and their future we're striking for. One day. It's like Brexit. People who think they know the facts (really, if you have researched you would be worried and wouldn't be sitting on your hands) who are blindly heading into disaster and they can't see it.

It's not a race to the bottom (cliche, but true).

Divide and conquer.

IceMountain · 29/06/2016 20:02

No, you lose 1/365 of your pay

IceMountain · 29/06/2016 20:05

I actually think the union should send post on postcards - a lot of the post looks a bit like junk mail/ unimportant and easily missed.

I if an enveloped is needed, then there should be information on the outside regarding the content.

noblegiraffe · 29/06/2016 20:17

Oops sorry, I had really got it in my head it was 1/195 and can't remember why. Was I thinking about pensions?

IceMountain · 29/06/2016 20:22

I only know because I thought the same as you, so phoned the office! I might be the only one striking, (which is partly why I'm so annoyed - there should be three of us) so I wanted to get my facts right as people keep grilling me!

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/06/2016 20:50

Gin

If you feel so strongly why don't you join a non striking union such as voice?
Same legal projection, same smug sanctimonious feeling.

Brandonstarkflakes · 29/06/2016 20:59

As if anyone is going to give a crap About a teacher's strike at the moment. Everyone is majority pissed about Brexit, this really isn't going to endear us to anyone right now. What are they thinking?

Glad I'm NASUWT.

Feenie · 29/06/2016 21:02

The NASUWT has been very puzzling - heard lots from.the NUT, ATL and NAHT about assessment and academisation, loud and clear.

NASUWT, not so much.

0hCrepe · 29/06/2016 21:16

I'm joining ATL instead. I think Mary Bousted talks a lot of sense.

IceMountain · 29/06/2016 21:19

That may be true, Brandon, but the white paper will go through regardless of Brexit, I'm sure.

Like it or not, this needs to be dealt with.

Brexit is happening whether w elite it or not. Can you give a date when it will be ok to deal with this?

Maybe now it is even more to address it, while everything is up in the air and needs considering.

IceMountain · 29/06/2016 21:20

Whether we like it or not. That was a Freudian auto correct...

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/06/2016 22:15

Brandonstarkflakes

It may well be that no-one will care, but if (rose tinted specs) the changes go through, I will know that I did my best to stop them.

Apparently, the NUT have 2, 057 new members since strike action was called last Thursday - 47 have left.

ipsogenix · 30/06/2016 01:39

I'm a parent, not a teacher, but I wish you would all stop worrying about this and just get on and STRIKE. Yes the testing regime does matter. Yes we know why you are striking. Please do it. We're not allowed to take out kids out on strike as we'd be threatened with prison, but at least you do have the option.

ipsogenix · 30/06/2016 01:41

Apart from anything, we are about to have two leadership elections and if you strike now, then the candidates can include in their policy statements, a plan of action on school testing. If you strike now then we might be shot of these tests by Christmas.

Feenie · 30/06/2016 06:39

Thanks for the support, ipsogenix.

The only negativity I've heard or seen at all has been by teachers, on this thread. Sad

This.

If we assume it will be ignored, then it will be ignored...

noblegiraffe · 30/06/2016 08:45

Which says it all really. You can usually rely on MN to have a massive thread about strike action with people being negative (and positive) on it, but there isn't.

teacherwith2kids · 30/06/2016 09:54

Have just put a thread on the main Education board with a link to the BBC article about it, to see what wider awareness there is of the strike. Locally, I now know of a couple of primaries within the county with a couple of classes affected each.

EvilTwins · 30/06/2016 12:25

There is a website for my area, and a Twitter feed. Lots of schools are closing or partially closing.

Meanwhile, my head, in her infinite wisdom, has decided it's business as usual, despite there being 17 members of teaching staff in NUT. She's also invited any member of staff who will struggle with childcare that day to bring their own kids in. Barking!

ipsogenix · 30/06/2016 13:01

Given that Michael Gove is now running for Prime Minister, I think this would be a perfect time to bring the school system to its knees. Remind everyone of what a cock-up he made in the Department for Education.

SaltyRock · 30/06/2016 20:35

I'm striking and I voted to do so.
