Hands up, who else has holiday slump?

First week of the holidays nearly at an end and I'm feeling lethargic, low and have a huge dose of can't be arsed!

Every big holiday I get like this. My DH very kindly says it's because I'm tired and a bit burnt out. However I can't seem to get motivated and am not spending another holiday like this.

Anyone else?

Maybe you can watch a film together then do an activity linked to the film, there are probably ideas and resources online. e.g. those minion cakes that everyone seems to posting on social media. Or just do some cooking together?

Take each day as it comes; some days you will naturally have more energy and drive than others. You will stress yourself out trying to think up huge, detailed projects.

The boys might like to go to a park? Take bikes or picnic (weather permitting), see if there is are any adventure playground type facilities?

I am not a teacher so the only holiday I have tends to be the week when I go away. However our work also closes for a six days every other November. I stay at home then and I find I do NOTHING, despite my best intentions. I think it's hard to be motivated without structure and routine.

I love days without bells! Love em. Could do this forever. It takes me a while to adapt but really in the zone now, enjoying time with my own children, having time to spare, not being constantly exhausted. I did some voluntary work today for an art club and it was a real joy to be so relaxed, but having read this thread I'm feeling like a freak and a slacker!
Entertaining kids - swimming is always my back up - particularly good now they are old enough to go in on their own.

Winnie You are fabulous!

I am just a lazy, lazy bones now. Wondering how I will cope when term re-starts. I seem to need to lie down a lot, and do more or less nothing. Even reading a book is a bit of a stretch. Blush

This is my first 'summer off' since I was a student myself and I did have a slump at the start. Largely to do with not drinking enough tea (I forget when I'm not at work!) and having too much free time so being unmotivated to actually do anything.

Then I decided the front door needs repainting and, lo! Purpose again!

Went swimming today at a pool that is 135 metres long! 12 laps of that and have definitely earned dinner. Even nodded off on the way home (not even a long journey!)

I do stay up until 4am or 5am planning lessons and making resources every night, but there is a mountain of work to do and I am still at base camp. Blush

Going away again tomorrow so at least away from home I will feel less guilty.

Ah, swimming! good for you!
I love going away, too. If it looks sunny and the dc are restless we shove stuff in the car and camp somewhere for a couple of days. A change of scene can really reset things.
I think it's vital to rest, too, and not to feel guilty about that. Teaching is so full on in term time that you're running on empty. Reading, dozing, day-dreaming. We're so used to planning every minute and feeling responsible for every eventuality and outcome that it's easy to forget this is not a natural way to live, really.
Staying up til 4 or 5 every night???! no wonder you are exhausted. Go easy on yourself, Happy. Have a lovely break away and enjoy yourself, September will come round all too soon.

Thanks. Yes, I´ve become nocturnal. Blush

I go back to work on 13th August (A Level results), but not properly until the 24th (start of INSET, meetings, etc. - full days, no more flipflops, etc.)

But we did break up on 26th June. Blush
