Hands up, who else has holiday slump?

First week of the holidays nearly at an end and I'm feeling lethargic, low and have a huge dose of can't be arsed!

Every big holiday I get like this. My DH very kindly says it's because I'm tired and a bit burnt out. However I can't seem to get motivated and am not spending another holiday like this.

Anyone else?

I've just popped into school to pick up the things that I forgot on the last day of term! I need to get my head round a few things before we go away so am going to do a few school type jobs today and tomorrow (and lots of packing!).
Good luck with the windows MrsEvadne!

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 11:18

Good plan petal.

Thanks! One done.

Enjoying my holidays, but feeling a huge slump in terms of brain activity and productivity. Would genuinely rather be at work.

From a purely selfish point of view I would prefer to have 2 or 3 week holidays peppered throughout the year. However, I appreciate the benefits of the long break for the students themselves.

Oh, and I've also taken to eating more or less non-stop. Oops.

CharleyDavidson · 29/07/2015 17:14

I was off sick because of an operation for 4 and a half weeks before the holiday finished and was only back at work for a day before breaking up so I quickly lost track of time. :)

My DDs are older and they like lie ins and lazy days. It's my turn to be waking them up and asking "What are we doing today?" Payback for all the previous years. :)

I've tackled a small job or two and will be doing another tomorrow. And we have a new kitten which is a good distraction.

I seem to have my mojo this year as I've tackled my diet head on and am upping my exercise levels to get some of my strength/fitness left that I lost being off my feet for a few weeks.

I would normally go in to work (with my DD's help) and tackle my classroom. But the school is having renovations/building work done over the hols and noone is going in. (We do have a lovely 2 EXTRA training days to make up for that in Sept.)

I love the hols and have to stop myself from counting it down.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 17:33

Happy I'm eating like mad!

Charley hope your recovery continues smoothly. A new kitten is a great distraction indeed Smile

Today I've blitzed the porch, hall and stairs: all the paintwork, glass and surfaces cleaned and carpets shampooed. Tomorrow I'll blitz the landing. Tired but glad I did it.

Well done MrsEvadne - you have been productive!
My school bags are still not sorted out, I just can't find the motivation. Someone give me a prod to get on with them .....

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 19:03

I put my music on and got stuck in. Little DS helped by randomly spraying things!!

How about 20 minutes tomorrow. With a cuppa?

I've done them! After writing it down I realised if i stopped procrastinating and just got on with it they'd be done in about 10 minutes.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 19:30

Yayyy Petal!! Grin

Thank you! I may be forced to sit and watch rubbish tv all evening now to get over it! Grin
Actually, that's one of the things I love about holidays, guilt free tv in the evening. Normally I work each night.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 19:47

I normally am sorting activities so you're right, having the evenings is lovely.

Which age group do you teach MrsEvadne?

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 20:18

I'm a learning mentor and I cover the whole school from EYFS to year six. I work with parents, external mentors, run lunch support club, peer mediation, support behaviour and I deliver catch up reading one to one with up to ten children. It's a brilliant job.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 20:20

I plan all my own work and report back to deputy head.

What age do you teach?

OP posts:
petalpower · 29/07/2015 20:25

How interesting! Is it a big school?
I am deputy head in a small rural primary and teach Year 5 and 6.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 20:50

Just under 300. We are one and a half form at the moment but are being considered for two form entry.

OP posts:
Happy36 · 29/07/2015 20:54

Sorry for the dumb question, but how does 1.5 form entry work? Confused Blush

petalpower · 29/07/2015 21:02

We have about 75 children from nursery to Year 6. Very small!
What age do you teach Happy?

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 21:06

We have a year one class, a year one/two class and a year two class. We also have a three and a three/four and a four.
Reception takes 45 children. This year it is two year five classes and a year six class.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 21:06

Wow petal. I bet that has challenges of its own.

MrsEvadneCake · 29/07/2015 21:07

It's not dumb at all of you. It's a funny way to describe it!!

First week always dire

Happy36 · 29/07/2015 21:09

Ah ok, thanks for explaining. That makes sense.

I teach secondary in a relatively big school (average size).

petalpower · 29/07/2015 21:12

Yes, you're right MrsEvadne, lots of challenges (not many people to share jobs between!) but great to know all the families in the school really well.

Theluckiestagain · 30/07/2015 23:17

Oh I am glad I have found this thread....was beginning to think it was just me!! Have just had a wobble (and a bit of a cry) to DH who can't get his head around it. Can't see why I am not loving the hols, considering I spent so much term-time counting down to them and was absolutely bloody knackered by July!

Think for me it's the total upheaval of my routine - the days seem to stretch endlessly so finding things to fill them is hard. I have two young DSs so need lots of 'stuff' to stop them bickering and the weather has been shite which hasn't helped. Plus, loads of my family and lots of friends are away, sod's law. So feeling rather lonely too if I'm honest. Am already sick of the endless 'mealtime / wash up / tidy / mealtime / wash up / tidy house then get fed up and put the telly on for a few moments peace' routine that has developed...As a primary teacher, I should have loads of fun stuff up my sleeve to keep them occupied but, honestly, I'm in a slump and can't get motivated. I normally have a summer hols house decorating 'project' too but haven't started that yet this year. What's wrong with me?!!

I know I should give myself a bloody good kick up the arse really, but feeling a little rubbish tonight. Anyone got any bright ideas for how I can entertain two primary aged boys on the cheap while not losing the plot myself?!! I need to get back to being 'fun mummy' before the weeks have disappeared and it's back to the term-time-see-my-own-kids-for-an-hour-a-day-if-I'm-lucky treadmill....

Sorry. That was a bit of a rant wasn't it? Feels cathartic though! Thanks!
