  • Accomodation, necessary ( altho that now healed because of the collar and sleeves thing) desparate always foxes me ( I am ignoring the red lines here!)

What word do you write, stare at, cross out, rewrite then have to look up?

My history teacher told me that Mayonnaise was invented by General Mahon of France during the Franco Prussian war. I am sure he might have been too busy for that culinary activity

discreet = cautious, careful, under the radar

discrete = individually distinct

Both have a Latin root, discrete has changed in meaning through the French.

Or some such bolleaux, I can't remember the exact details Wink

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 23:58

I remember discrete as the Es are separated.

Rehearsal. I ALWAYS have to sound it out in my head.

Did I mention I'm a drama teacher?

What worked for me was to memorise weird primitively phonetic pronunciations and repeat them in my head every time I saw the word. So "ne - kess - ary" for example, with a heavily emphasised flat a sound as in the northern bath. Mind you, I was taught phonics when I was young, which is what led me to develop this strategy. Doesn't work with everything, but I found it very helpful.

Achieve - can just never, ever remember it. Don't even know if that's right.

Also, liaison. Applied for a liaison role once, spelt it wrong, got the job.

Necessary is one coffee two sugars

'It is necessary for miss emo to have a large coffee with 2 sugars before school starts'

Ooh I've never been in the staff room before.

I'm a writer. I just look stuff up in the online dictionary.
