  • Accomodation, necessary ( altho that now healed because of the collar and sleeves thing) desparate always foxes me ( I am ignoring the red lines here!)

What word do you write, stare at, cross out, rewrite then have to look up?

Doesn't It Always Run Rather Horribly Over Each Ankle - visualise it and you will always know how to spell diarrhoea!!

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 21:27

TBh i never do need to mention loose bowels.

Dash in a real rush, hurry or else accident! I've never forgot that one to help spell diarrhoea!!

Necessary-one coffee, 2 sugars (1 c and 2 s)

E for envelopes in stationery (not stationary)

Liaise is the one I have to think about!

And discrete/discreet!

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 21:28

agree - am fully aware of words i need to check.

Do any of you when marking, ( and a bit tired) look at the word you corrected, then wonder if your correction is right?

Accommodate is a very accommodating word.

And yy to using a dictionary in class. Children need to be taught that a) everyone struggles to spell certain words sometimes and b) it is a good thing to double check the spelling, and how easy it is to do. It is infinitely preferable to spelling incorrectly!

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 21:28

liaise is a bugger.

LOL at Katie not spelling her job title.

eczema - I keep putting an x in it and it hasn't got one.

Diarrhoea - just a weird word. I'll try and remember the 'runs rather horribly over each ankle' thing, that's quite good.

I have words I struggle to type correctly as well - whenever I try to type the word field (a word I use quite a lot at work) it comes out as "filed".

Justusemyname · 18/05/2015 21:34

DS2 spelt prejudice correctly in his written work. Student teacher marked it wrong and "corrected" it to predjudice. I crossed hers out and had a word with the head as she was play ground duty that morning. Head was fine about it and agreed that a teacher teaching kids to spell really needed to be able to spell....

I just use another word that I can actually spell:

Desperate = frantic
Diarrhoea = upset stomach
Accommodate = house

I can't spell that chrysanthemum without looking it up. Or diarrhoea.

I am hiding this topic now, it makes me despair.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/05/2015 22:21

Hmmmm.....yes. None of them are particularly difficult if you have a good standard of English, which I am assuming teachers have. They regularly appear in lists of difficult spellings that I see the pupils tested on in the secondary school where I work. The secondary school age pupils.

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 22:23

I cant imagine album having an N. For me its all about the double letter thing.

I can spot kids' errors in a FLASH - very speedy

CESS pits are necessary Grin

If I find a word that I can't spell correctly, I write it down x100, a bit like writing lines in detention! Then, when I have to write it a few weeks later, or whatever, I can vissualise myself writing the word.

It comes out of your bum like a bullet from a gun diarrhoea
When you're driving in your Chevy and your pants are getting heavy diarrhoea

You get the drift.

BadgersArse · 18/05/2015 22:37

LOL a lot
