Stupid world book day theme

Libby456 · 27/02/2015 20:38

My school's theme is to dress up as your favourite famous explorer (preferably from a book)

First things first, what a crap theme! I feel sorry for the poor parents trying to think of ANYONE

Can anyone think of who i could dress up as? Some staff aren't doing it because it's so hard which i think is a real shame so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated :D

I hope your book day dress ups are better than mine!

Thanks x

Magellan ? Columbus ? What did they even dress like? What a stupid theme. You'll have to either go in safari gear or in polar gear. Or as Dora Grin

vestandknickers · 27/02/2015 20:43

Dora?

misssmapp · 27/02/2015 20:43

Or you could go modern and go as Bear Grylls !

ArcheryAnnie · 27/02/2015 20:49

Depending on the weather, there's:

Dora! Orange trousers/shorts, pink tee shirt, purple backpack, flower bracelet.

Amy Johnson: bomber jacket type thing, leather helmet, goggles. (If you know any steampunk types, borrow their goggles, they always have some.)

Astronauts: blue jumpsuit (or matching shirt and trousers) with stuck-on paper NASA patches.

Polar Explorer: parka, wrap-around sunglasses, and a pair of massive mittens slung around your nexk on a string. (Shackleton did this - mittens on a string are not just for toddlers!)

Lawrence Oates. Tell the class, "I'm just going outside; I may be some time."

Then don't come back

ArcheryAnnie · 27/02/2015 20:55

On the offchance you have a fussy black victorian dress, then there's Mary Kingsley.

If you can't find goggles and a cap, but can borrow a cloche, then there's Amelia Earheart.

Brown trousers as well as orange would do for Dora.

There is exploring of sorts in lots of books, in fact, if there's a map in the beginning of the book I think it should count.

Treasure island, swallows and amazons, the hobbit...

CarlaVeloso · 27/02/2015 20:57

Andy from CBeebies! Can you get kahki shorts and jacket and wear with boots? (Such a good look on a lady Wink)

CarlaVeloso · 27/02/2015 20:58

Oh sorry, it's Book Day. Um, I missed the point on that one didnt I?

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 27/02/2015 20:59

Pokemon...

Pippi Longstocking, Around the World in eighty days, Journey to the centre of the earth, ANY sci-fi book, Magic Faraway tree, Wishing chair, any Famous Five, any Narnia, Lord of the Rings, there's tons! It's a great theme! Almost any fantasy or sci-fi has exploration in it. Any quest, really.

Muskey · 01/03/2015 13:37

Scot, Shackleton, livingstone

rambunctious · 01/03/2015 13:45

PMSL @ Captain Oates

What age do you teach? I think I would do Tintin as easiest option.

RandomHouseRules · 08/03/2015 21:18

What did you do? I actually think it is quite a good theme - but agree it needs a bit more thought than some.

BikeRunSki · 08/03/2015 21:21

I thought TinTin was a reporter?

BossWitch · 08/03/2015 21:21
