What did the Royal Family know and when?

With everything that has emerged about Andrew and Epstein, and now the allegations concerning Thomas Markle, I think there are some much bigger questions about what the Royal Family and Palace officials knew, when they knew it, and what they did with that information.

We are looking at two very different situations involving serious allegations of sexual abuse. One concerns a member of the Royal Family itself, Andrew, and the other concerns the father of someone who married into it, Thomas Markle.
In Andrew's case, there are still so many unanswered questions about the extent of the late Queen's knowledge, the protection he received over the years and the role played by senior courtiers. Who knew what, how far back did that knowledge go, and who made the decisions about how matters were handled?

Now with Thomas Markle. What I find particularly interesting is that the Metropolitan Police have confirmed the letter was passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in January 2019, rather than simply being handed privately to Meghan. At that time, Harry and Meghan were still part of the Kensington Palace household structure, which they shared with William and Catherine. Jason Knauf was communications secretary for both couples.

Given the seriousness and sensitivity of the allegations, surely it is reasonable to question whether the matter was discussed with senior Palace officials or brought to the attention of senior members of the Royal Family?

Who within the office received the correspondence? Who handled it? Was Jason Knauf aware? Were William and Catherine briefed? Did the Queen or her private secretary know anything about it?

We don't know the answers, and I'm not suggesting that everyone necessarily knew. But that is precisely the point.

The circumstances involving Andrew are different, but both situations raise questions about how sensitive information was handled within the royal institution.

What did the Royal Family know, when did they know it, and what did they do with that knowledge?

Surely these are questions worth asking of the institution with regards to both situations.

To answer the question in the title:

'What did the Royal Family know and when?'

The Queen knew everything about what Andrew MW was up to decades ago, palace advisors have said as much. She was told repeatedly but chose not to act.

I imagine that The Queen, King Charles & Prince William were informed about the letter from Thomas Markle's ex. by palace protection.

I imagine the Thomas Markle allegations were tucked away because they had enough to deal with regarding Andrew MW at the time.

Palace advisors and those in the top job will be aware of all kinds of stuff, some that has never - and will never - become common knowledge. Believing otherwise is very naive. I suppose much like other families but this is a family with entitlement, power, money, advisors and PR people who are employed to make things go away, or handle them when they do emerge.

What did the Royal Family know
Everything; palace protection and advisors are employed to advise the BRF

when did they know it
AMB - when he was bringing young ladies into the Palace (palace advisors have said that they informed QEII)

TM - 2019

and what did they do with that knowledge?
Tuck it away, of course!

Regarding Thomas Markle, the UK Met police did not need to act as authorities local to him were already aware of the allegations; Meghan's statement covers her belief that relevant authorities local to him were dealing with this. She is NOT to blame and I can't really understand what people expect her to have done. We also have no idea what the letter accused Thomas Markle of precisely - and Meghan may have felt conflicted (but, whatever she did feel, she would have been advised by palace advisors to not speak of it).

she has left out TMs who she then told in 2025. This is the most egregious part for me - to give a heads up to the alleged perpetrator of sexual violence against children - so that he could have cleared any evidence, continued abusing and avoided prosecution.

I agree, how anyone can defend her actions is beyond me.

'Imagine' is doing some heavy lifting here @GoodGirlFaith The account given in 'The Times' (article shared upthread) is based on reporting, not imagining.

QEII knowing 'everything' about AMW is not proof of her knowing about TMs.

What is the source of your assertion that 'authorities local to him' knew about the allegations against Markle? And how do you account for the IOPC instigating an independent enquiry if the Met 'did not need to act'?

Only a fool would blame a daughter for the actions of her father. What Meghan is being criticised for is knowing about the allegations and not following up with the Met or other police authority to ask what the status of the enquiry was, especially given her professed concern for the safety of women and girls. Asking a discrete question is a different thing to making a public announcement.

You state 'heaving lifting' but it's common sense @IdaGlossop

The account given in 'The Times' (article shared upthread) is based on reporting, not imagining.

Do you REALLY believe they weren't informed? Would be extremely remiss not to tell the boss/ruler of the nation! Ex palace advisors have said they DID tell QEII about their concerns about AMB decades ago. That's their job. They wouldn't suddenly just decide not to bother anymore.

QEII knowing 'everything' about AMW is not proof of her knowing about TMs.

I didn't say she was but I strongly suspect she was told. Again, would be rather remiss not to inform her. But no, we cannot know for certain is the Queen was told, I agree.

What is the source of your assertion that 'authorities local to him' knew about the allegations against Markle? And how do you account for the IOPC instigating an independent enquiry if the Met 'did not need to act'?

National news media, obviously. Of course the Met did not need to act: 'it made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated' (Meghan's statement) and a statement from the FBI 'the FBI is aware of the allegations and will provide support, as appropriate, to the Philippine authorities. We will also investigate any related allegations of federal violations of U.S. law.'

'Only a fool would blame a daughter for the actions of her father. How do you she didn't? How are we to know what investigations were being carried out regarding the allegations? We cannot know.
