@Hoolahoophop - I see what you're saying. Unfortunately for M I think of those who have time and inclination and pretty kitchens, garden tables etc to put posies in a jam jar ( and let's face it people have been doing this since Adam was a lad ) there are a fair few who would make sure the jam jar specifically didn't have her name on it.

Anyway, I shall be entering mine in the “Clear Seville Marmalade, a clear jelly with or without peel” section

Torn between a jar with not so much peel or a jar with more peel.

Given they have hundreds of entries I wonder what they do with all the left over marmalade after the judges have tested it? 🤔

Not that you need it !
my advice? Go for the one with less and smaller peel , a lot of people prefer this style and it may give you more chance of winning 🏆 🤞❤️

I just think that as illogical as it may seem to the rational, there are people for who or is that whom, she will be aspirational and she will generate sales there. People waste their money on a whole host of ludicrous things. You only have to look at style and beauty threads to see how much tastes differ and what seems ridiculous to one person is perfectly natural to another.

@IcedPurple I don't see how Duchy Organics are her 'competion'. Only that others have constantly compared it as its an elevated royal or royal adjacent brand. The Dutchy range and Highgrove seem to get mentioned on these threads so I assume people are comparing them. Competition was perhaps the wrong word. Comparison might be better.

Her main market being the US I can only go on stereotypes and assume that there are people who would admire her, someone looking after her finances must have done some research. The stereotype I have for America, rightly or wrongly is that many Americans value the go get them attitude where you take risks and talk yourself up, put yourself forward to get ahead. Things Meghan has and does in spades, but which perhaps are not liked by the genteel stereotype self effacing Brit.

I could be wrong and she may be about to loose everything. But something tells me the pair of them will end up landing on their feet.

Its fascinating watching them, and seeing other peoples very polarized opinions.

They're the son and daughter in law of a literal King. Of course they're going to 'land on their feet', despite their best efforts to the contrary.

The stereotype I have for America, rightly or wrongly is that many Americans value the go get them attitude where you take risks and talk yourself up, put yourself forward to get ahead.

I'm not recongising Meghan in any of this. She was a fairly unknown actress until she became world famous through marriage to a British prince. She's now peddling generic mass market wares on the internet. How is this some sort of audacious life choice?

And do 'go get them' attitudes really mesh with the whole Trad Wife thing?

On the surface giving very few cares to what other people think.

Is the word "cares" from the same dictionary that cites "learns" and "pours" as nouns?
The Gives-me-the-Icksbridge English Dictionary as opposed to the Uxbridge one, perhaps?

I don’t think anyone has said they shouldn’t earn money any way they like. I’d be interested to see any links to posts you’ve seen that I’ve missed that say they shouldn’t.

But using the conferred title of Duchess, rather than her actual name, is breaking the Sandringham agreement. That agreement provided them with a year’s grace to establish themselves commercially outside the royal institution. There are a million ways they could have done that as private individuals with everyone’s blessing.

Saying she should just go away and be quiet is saying she cant earn money any way she likes because her way right now means she wont be quiet.

I have seen comments on other threads saying she should go be private stay out of the public view ot go do x job well that also means she cant earn money any way she likes either.

So yes there have been alot of comments that show people dont think she can earn money any way she likes

After all, how could any IG start without the Duchess of Sussex marching in the lead in a romper suit?!

As abiding of memories of ceremonies go, that’s very much up there.

The Uxbridge English Dictionary would certainly be interesting: a blend of English, Hindi and everything in between!

Of course she can earn money but drop the title
(which was conferred by an Institution she despises) and stop breaking the Sandringham Agreement.

Firstly , Harry has not been the spare since George was born.
Secondly, I have no problem with H and M earning money but drop the titles .
Be authentic ….

I often forget that, Harry hasnt been the spare since 2013 which is before he met his wife. Andrew was no longer relevant from the day William was born, so its not like its a new thing! Primogeniture had been the law for centuries.

Indeed.
I was thinking of the one that gets referenced on "I'm Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue" on Radio 4.
Eta It's a joke on a comedy programme. I realise lots of people might not have come across it.

hepsitemiz · 14/01/2026 11:10

Siri, both jars look great. Can you enter both? The question of how much peel is the right amount varies from person to person. In my case, it would even depend on the day, as to which of those I'd opt for.

Do you add ginger to your marmalade? It's so easy to do, and so, um, elevating. Probably the marmalading equivalent of flowery sprinkles.

It was really to do with jar size, it was harder to get more peel in the smaller jar, and also I thought I'd enter the smaller jar to keep more for me and my toast!
I've never added ginger, but DH came in and suggested adding whisky, so I poured a glug into one jar, and finding some ginger wine I decided to do a ginger wine one too and poured a glug of that into another jar.
(My grandmother taught me to love a whisky Mac in cold weather - one part whisky 2 parts ginger wine, hence both bottles found together at the back of the cupboard).
It's a good set this year so I'm quite pleased with it.

Winning would be quite a shock, as it is hotly contested, and I think a bit of a poison chalice - how do home entrants produce a bulk supply for Fortnums?

"Every year the Best in Show marmalade is produced and sold online and in our shop and at Fortnum & Masons, with a donation from every jar going to the winners nominated a charity."

Well I don't think I need worry, it's not likely to happen!

Andrew was never actually the spare since, obviously, Anne could have become Queen if both Charles and Andrew had succumbed before William was born.

You are not correct. Edward is still next in line after Andrew. Andrew was always the spare to Charles from his birth.

Parents Network now fully handed over to ParentTogether

Newsweek report https://archive.is/oyzD9

I wonder if this is laying ground for Invictus to move away from Archewell, and/or Harry. We know Archewell has undergone its own structural changes whereby it's no longer in control of its destiny sitting as it does under an umbrella organization that will fund it and manage it as it must in order to be accountable to its own investors. And we know that Invictus is suffering its own financial dramas, not least with hosting Israel, in near-bankrupt Birmingham next year. I think the end of Invictus's association with Archewell and/or Harry is nigh.

It seems to me that Archewell is done, and also that As Ever is done. By her own efforts and actions, despite the enormous publicity and visibility she got by virtue of her high profile, Meghan tried but has ultimately failed to make a successful venture of As Ever (launching a bookmark with a save the date is just.....). If she weren't married to Harry this wouldn't have created the tiniest ripple anywhere. Kinda like her entire public profile, really.

And, honestly, in a world that's changing rapidly, which is as volatile and pecarious with enormously consequential things going on in the lives of people who are struggling under increased costs of living and inflation and tariffs and no healthcare etc etc, there's just no space for this kind of bullshit "I'm so perfect, be like me" Instagram nonsense. It's over for Meghan.

I think it's over for Meghan and it's over for Archewell. Harry still has the option of going home, but he won't be able to do it with Meghan - and if/when he does he'll be even more of a Spare than he was before he left. He'll have Edward's public profile when once he was a quarter of the Fab Four.

What a waste.

BasiliskStare · 14/01/2026 18:45

Actually I don't think it's over for Meghan. She's got fame beyond her wildest dreams and she's not afraid to use it. I do think she and H are becoming less relevant but I am sure they will find a way of squeezing out the last drop of Royalty By the Ocean . It might not get them as much money as they had anticipated, And they may wish they hadn't shot their mouths off so often but I think they'll cling on to H's position like a barnacle on a fishing boat. I do wonder if H is now thinking " you don't know what you've got till it's gone". I suspect They'll be around for a while methinks. What I think may be over ( and actually I hope so ) is H being patron of charities where (without guidance ) he just doesn't have the wherewithal or the energy to put into them when he doesn't have a backup team behind him. And a vanity foundation I do think should be handed over. (But I do realise the laws re foundations etc registered in Delaware etc are beyond my knowledge. ) Well , my two'penny'orth 😂

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 14/01/2026 21:29

She only has a little over 4 million followers on Instagram. That's really not much at all. Big time influencers like her mates the Kardashian Jenners have follower counts in the tens or hundreds of millions.

Apologies if I missed this, but talking about Stacey Solomon, she has 6.1 MILLION followers on insta. No worldwide royal wedding, no Oprah.

But my point still stands, Andrew wasn't the (only) spare as there were other siblings, the direct line would continue. Harry was the only alternative to William for a long time.

I don't think you understand the line of succession at all. Harry was never the only alternative. How does it make sense to point out that the direct line could continue as there are other siblings and then state that Harry is the only alternative?

Her Royal connection is diminishing by the day . Her blink and you miss it time as a working Royal has been poured over and discussed for several years so what else is there to say ? Even if she did write her memoir or give an interview who but the most ardent fans would believe her ?
Without Harry she is absolutely nothing .
