Andrew no longer Duke of York, palace confirms - after 'creative' move by King
Buckingham Palace has confirmed Andrew has been removed from the official roll of the peerage, effectively meaning he has lost his Duke of York title.
It comes after we told you earlier (see 9.17 post) that Andrew's name no longer appears on the official roll.
Dukes are listed on the roll of the peerage maintained at the Crown Office and, as Lord Chancellor, David Lammy is responsible for maintaining the peerage roll.
We understand that the King issued royal warrants for the dukedom of York to no longer be recognised in the list of peerages, which has the effect of removing Andrew's title.
King has acted 'very creatively' - what it all means
"The Lord Chancellor's office has taken responsibility for maintaining the peerage roll and, very creatively, the King has decided to remove the Dukedom of York," our royal commentator Alastair Bruce explained.
"It does avoid the need to go through a legislative process with primary legislation through the Lords and Commons to get rid of it.
"Now this is done, Andrew is no longer the Duke of York.
"You can't use it in any way; it's gone."

From Sky News ⬆️

You can’t use the Duke of York name in anyway.

You think I’m being idiotic. But I’m not.

What has Humpty Dumpty got to do with the Duke of York?

DustyMaiden · 31/10/2025 13:31

It’s a title , the song is about Frederic . Others may in future hold the title.

PiccadillyPurple · 31/10/2025 13:31

Are you confusing Humpty Dumpty with 'The Grand Old Duke of York'?

StressyMcStressFace · 31/10/2025 13:33

I think its ok to still sing Humpty Dumpty OP. Don't worry 😉

NConthe · 31/10/2025 13:37

So many people starting threads on this. Mostly to make things up but this is probably the most idiotic. Humpty Dumpty? Fuck me

It’s about the only part of this thread that would make sense.

How boring must your life be to be worried about this (the OP, not the person I quoted)?

ChocHotolate · 31/10/2025 13:41

The Grand Old Duke of York had 10000 men. Sadly I suspect Andrew (ex not old duke of York) had many young women but hopefully not close to 10000

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 31/10/2025 13:42

Nowhere in Humpty Dumpty does it mention he's an egg.

AutumnalCrows · 31/10/2025 13:44

Lokkiton · 31/10/2025 13:48

Strangely, it is easy to believe that OP is a person who sings Humpty Dumpty on a regular basis

KimHwn · 31/10/2025 13:51

No, it is absolutely banned and if you sing as much as the first three words, you will be arrested and thrown in the tower.
Don't be silly.

MyTattooIsBetterThanYours · 31/10/2025 15:06

Oh yeah. It’s the Grand Old Duke of York. I got confused with all the horses and men.

Are we not allowed to sing the Grand Old Duke of York? Shall I get MNHQ to edit the title?

Since we're talking nursery rhymes, the Grand Old Duke of York is about a different Duke of York being caught up in the scandal of his mistress selling military commissions on his behalf.

Daphne Du Maurier was her descendent, she wrote the book Mary Anne about it.

Well no, because then we look stupid instead of you 🤣

CarmelaBrunella · 31/10/2025 16:17

I've just been singing it, so I would confidently say that it's still permitted.
The same with The Grand Old Duke of York.
All perfectly fine, if a little retro.

What has Humpty Dumpty got to do with the Duke of York?

She's thinking of The Grand Old Duke of York, He had ten thousand men, He marched them up to the top of the hill ... etc.

CarmelaBrunella · 31/10/2025 16:20

There's a Dutch version with Prince Maurice.

Oh yes. Now that would be funny.

I remember being iffy about singing the Grand Old Duke of York with baby DD, now 8.

notacooldad · 31/10/2025 16:38

The egg imagery came from Lewis Caroll, as far as I recall.

Why?
I used to sing it to my babies and pause for dramatic affect to make them laugh.

I'd heard the first part of that -not the Daphne Du Maurier bit - though wikipedia doesn't agree or isn't sure - has a prior version being a King of France.

I'm more sure about Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie kissing the grils and making them cry was about George IV.

Humpty Dumpty should be fine OP. Till I had my DC I'd never heard wind the bobbin up before - we all liked that one.

Aww. That's so cute.
I miss all that 😊

Oh the Grand Old Duke of York
He had twelve million quid
He gave it to someone he never even met
For something he never did.

Eviebeans · 31/10/2025 16:47

I’m not quite sure what they could do if you did sing it 🤔
