She always seemed so lovely. Never forget her with Jana Novotna

was wondering if anyone else remembered this. Yes, that was lovely.

I remember being mesmerised by her as a child in the 1970s. Stunningly beautiful, effortlessly stylish and endlessly compassionate. And totally down to earth. She was latterly overshadowed by Diana (as all the royals were), but for me, she was the OG.

Yes that’s when I remember her from the most.

is she standing?

Sorry that wasn't a well-worded post. I meant is she the lady standing in the photo, but looking more carefully I think she is the one sitting with the late Queen and PM.

I have always thought her daughter seems quite a serene character too, She doesn't seem to jostle for the limelight at all.

HawthornLantern · 05/09/2025 14:14

Yes, Calliopespa, I believe she is the one on the right looking at her baby rather than the camera. Which makes me think that perhaps it was tricky to get a shot when everyone was looking in the same direction - but it is a lovely, tender moment that is captured.

ARichtGoodDram · 05/09/2025 14:15

Yes she's the one looking at her baby in the photo

Eggbaps · 05/09/2025 14:16

Sad news, she always seemed a really decent person (and very beautiful).

FuzzyWolf · 05/09/2025 14:18

RIP.

ARichtGoodDram · 05/09/2025 14:21

She was a lovely lady. My MIL met her at a small event hosted for people who had lost babies and she had taken the time to know, beforehand, the name of the attendees babies, which I think is just a beautiful touch from her.

is she standing?

She’s the one seated beside the Queen, gazing down at her baby. I think this photo captures her personality perfectly. While the others appear regal and posed for the camera, she comes across as natural and nurturing—simply a mother cooing over and soothing her baby.

Ahhh that’s terrific. So thoughtful.

ajandjjmum · 05/09/2025 14:34

My Mum always used to talk about what a beautiful bride she was. I remember her losing her baby, and it (understandably) affected her really badly. I think that although they lived pretty separate lives, she and her DH did support each other in their later year.

RIP Your Royal Highness.

RIP Your Royal Highness.

My mum kept a magazine with an article and photos of Dss of K's wedding for years. I used to love looking at it when I was a child - it was so pretty and I envied the bridesmaids (P Anne was one). It was in York Minster, which was a big deal for a royal wedding not to be in London.

She always came across as genuine and empathetic.

Malbecfan · 05/09/2025 14:58

I was lucky enough to meet her the evening before my degree ceremony as she was Chancellor of the university. My department (Music) was chosen to have graduands from the convocation supper presented to her and the professor, my friend and I had a lovely chat with her. The next day she presented us with our degrees. When the ceremony was over and we were standing outside with our families taking photos etc., she came over to us to congratulate us again and said what a pleasure it was to meet us the previous evening. Considering how many people she must have met and the hundreds of people milling around in caps and gowns, I was amazed that she remembered us. My dad must have used 3 rolls of film taking photos - he and my late mum were so proud!

She was really lovely lady. RIP.

Maddy70 · 05/09/2025 15:03

My dad was her driver for a while. He said she was absolutely lovely. Would make him a cup of tea and put the world to rights. A really down to earth lady he had a lot of time for her

HRHTheDuchessOfBotox · 05/09/2025 15:37

I think it’s lovely that every single post on here is warm and affectionate for the late Duchess which goes to show the high regard that everyone held for her.

I knew her when I was younger. She was a very gentle person.

JSMill · 05/09/2025 15:39

I think at some point, she took a step back from public life and followed her own path. I always respected her for doing that and I think that took some courage, especially when her dh clearly takes his royal duties seriously.

Cynic17 · 05/09/2025 15:46

She was so glamorous when young, but happily stopped using her HRH and gave up royal life.
She was a Samaritans volunteer for years - her Sams name was 'Miranda'.
The powers that be at Wimbledon treated her very poorly.
I always thought she was wonderful.

SeaAndStars · 05/09/2025 15:51

My mum and dad were married the same day as the Duchess of Kent's wedding and I was was their born in the same year their daughter. My mum always said that Katherine Worsley was the best royal bride ever and was interested in and admired her all her life. They're both gone now. Rest in peace.

upinaballoon · 05/09/2025 16:04

I was at school when she was married. I suppose I saw it on the News when I got home.
Another 'sweet Kate' - I have just been writing that I think Shakespeare has his Henry V call the French princess 'sweet Kate', so the words are in my head.

upinaballoon · 05/09/2025 16:05

My girl's a Yorkshire girl, Yorkshire through and through......

Harassedevictee · 05/09/2025 16:09

Really sad news. I feel for the Duke and their family.

I always liked the Duchess at Wimbledon and how she comforted the losing players - Jana Navotna really stands out how kind she was.

I really respected her stepping back from royalty whilst still giving back in a quiet understated way.

RhododendronFlowers · 05/09/2025 16:14

She made the choice to step back from public life, and take on projects with no publicity. I respect her for that.
She was open about her mental health problems at a time when there was still a stigma. She needed residential care, and emerged to put her skills and talents to good use, which is very positive.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 05/09/2025 16:14

Poor Lady Helen Taylor, lost Georgio Armani and then her mum in subsequent days.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 05/09/2025 16:29

I remember watching a programme about her years ago, If I remember correctly she used to visit the elderly in their homes and the programme accompanied her on one of her visits, she washed up the dishes at an elderly person’s home, she seemed a genuinely kind person, RIP.

A very lovely lady. May she rest in peace.

This. She sounds like she was an inspirational woman.
