Commissionable links- means when a potential customer clicks on the link, it's attributed to the affiliate, allowing the brand to record the source of the traffic. If someone buys a product using an affiliate link, the brand will pay the affiliate marketer commission on the sale

But she’s not an influencer?

This is really sad actually.

Prince Charles inherited the throne on his mother's death in September 2022, @Fortunypleatsingreen . He became King Charles III and is Head of State.

EmpressOfTheThread · 25/03/2025 17:07

Thanks for clarifying that, @wordler .
I think there's a lot of misunderstanding on here about how things work in the UK.

glitterturd · 25/03/2025 17:09

BasiliskStare · 25/03/2025 12:06

@glitterturd Gwyneth said in an interview quite openly that Goop had stopped selling vibrators because they are a one off purchase 😁

That shows what she doesn't know 😂

Mistyglade · 25/03/2025 17:10

EmpressOfTheThread · 25/03/2025 17:02

No, because he's the Head of State.

An absurd anachronism in this day and age.

BasiliskStare · 25/03/2025 17:13

@wordler I am not sure whether this was the Royal Rota - it was journalists accompanying H&M to Australia . He was so rude - "you weren't invited" . Well Harry actually they were in order to cover the Royal tour which is of legitimate interest - did you expect to just capture the whole thing on your phone

The difference is that Fergie, although divorced from Andrew, never gave tell alls and slagged off the U.K. or the RF for monetary gain. The use of titles is up to the monarch. Fergie was close with the queen and discreet.

And she never signed an agreement not to monetise her titles.

There is a huge difference between someone who is your friend benefiting from your fame for money (with your permission) and someone who is your openly sworn enemy merching your fame for their own benefit and to throw shade at you.

Nothing about Meghan makes her special enough to stick two fingers up at an entire country and not feel the consequences. She did this to herself.

I’m interested in this comment because I am genuinely not aware that Meghan did stick two fingers up at an entire country did she?

Does this explain all of the antipathy towards her; that because she wanted to return home to the USA and didn’t exactly love her experience in the UK, largely because of the tabloids, she should be punished forever?

I thought that she did some quite thoughtful charity work while she here with the Grenfell Tower cook book and the Smart Works charity.

I am not sure it’s fair to reduce her experience in the uk to sticking two fingers up at the four nations; that would be ridiculously jingoistic surely and doesn’t acknowledge any of the other negative experiences that came with her situation, such as your granny in law, and then fil controlling your family budget.

I don’t think Meghan has ever stated anything negative about the citizens of the UK has she , despite being the subject of so much negativity? I think she has been pretty gracious actually considering how she has been characterised by the tabloids and when so many people in the uk have blindly concurred with the misogynistic and racist rhetoric broadcast by them.

'Gal'? How incredibly patronising. She's a 43 year old woman.

61-year old Gal here. What is patronising about that?

IcedPurple · 25/03/2025 17:20

Not that I 'own' the thread or anything, but it's always a shame when these discussions get derailed to go round and round about things which happened years ago and have been debated a million times already.

@Fortunypleatsingreen She has behaved terribly towards the people who paid for her lavish lifestyle and costly wedding. In both the Oprah interview and their Netflix show they made comments about the U.K. being racist. There was a lot of very critical comments about the monarchy, British culture and U.K. tabloids.

This is, I think, why people get so angry with M and H. I remember people being excited to welcome her, being thrilled at their wedding, wanting them to succeed. And then out of the blue discovering that they hated it here and wanted to leave.

Which probably would have been completely fine, a bit baffling but their choice, if they hadn’t then given endless interviews about what a shitty, horrible experience they had. It wasn’t just a case of her wanting to be in the US. It came across to millions of people in the U.K. that they were miffed at not getting the right attention. Felt they deserved more money/ fame/ adoration and pissed off to Hollywood to find it.

Which was quite annoying considering how much the U.K. tax payer had paid for their wedding/ security etc. It’s fine not to like it and retire. It is offensive to do a smash and grab on someone else’s culture and then whine about how you didn’t get enough.

EmpressOfTheThread · 25/03/2025 17:35

People need to remind themselves of Harry and Meghan's popularity. The crowds turning out to cheer and wave wherever they went, the crowds at their wedding, cheering on the carriage ride. The wave of support and positivity they enjoyed. She was completely welcomed and the response in the streets was amazing.

Totally agree

Fortunypleatsingreen · 25/03/2025 16:47

I think the problem was though that they felt that some key figures within the RF commanded a certain bubble of protection within the boundaries of communication with the Royal rota; and other less key figures like themselves served to an extent as collateral damage.

Who was being protected and from what? And how were Meghan and Harry collateral damage? What happened to them?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 25/03/2025 17:45

And didn’t Oprah get reprimanded for making up Headlnes claiming they were from British tabloids when in fact it was the European press?

Fortunypleatsingreen · 25/03/2025 17:46

Thank you Wordler, I understand the basics of how it works and I am always interested to learn more.

I agree with your point that picking and choosing journalists yourself could potentially stray too much in to PR, but to be balanced, the treatment that H & M received in the hands of some of the Royal Rota journalists could in no way be characterised as fair or objective.

There’s a certain give and take with these things and maybe H & M would have been more cooperative had some journalists played the game a bit more fairly?

Edit: oops the quote didn’t work but this was meant to be in response to Wordler’s post about the royal rota.

Bontonbonbon · 25/03/2025 17:51

The fed to the wolves comment was so telling. They essentially accused people of trying to ruin them but at the time the headlines were classic U.K. tabloid- playing two women off against each other, making up shit stirring stories. Most people just ignore them because they know they are mostly bollocks.

But these two leaned in to the idea that everyone was out to get them. No one is universally adored. The papers went after the queen just as much as the rest of the family. Anyone in U.K. public life gets a drubbing. It might not be fair but it is pretty equally unfair.

You cannot expect to join a public institution in the U.K. and not get criticised. I have no idea what treatment she expected but non of it seemed disproportionate to what everyone else in U.K. public life gets. It’s not right but it’s also not uniquely targeted at her.

You're right, also one was from an online right wing site. The headlines were not from the mainstream British press.
So many lies.

Well, I think that is one way of characterising their response to their experience in the UK. It’s not one I recognise tbh.

I’d like to know where precisely they called any of the four nations, or the people who live in them, shitty or horrible?

I’m British and I certainly didn’t feel “miffed” or take the fact that they were leaving as a personal insult! That would be a ludicrous thing to do imho,

Are they though? And isn’t your “they are both liars and fantasists” proof of the lens through which you view them.

Is there any action she could take that you could give wholesome praise for? Just one thing that wouldn’t be subject to snide criticism of action, her motivations, and what it demonstrates of her character?

The proof lies in their own words put by them in the public domain. Plain as the nose on your face. No "lens" required.

If someone tells you who they are, believe them.
