The royal family

To have more respect for Harry if he moved to Canada?

I don’t really follow the Royal Family dramas and although I do feel (very slightly) sorry for Harry I do think he’s been very silly, is self indulgent, done a lot of hurtful things and needs a good kick up the backside.

But, with everything going on in America with Trump and his little pet Musk, wouldn’t it be a great signal to his followers/ the world if he packed up and moved to Canada to show support for them?

Not entirely sure the Canadians would want him, but it would hopefully send a strong message to the world and possibly give him a bit more respect in the public eye.

Excellent @BemusedAmerican!
I had forgotten all about this, and it goes to show just how entitled they are , close protection officers are not servants, they are supposed to stay close to the primary target at all times , not go out to fetch coffee and food for them!
and also shows just how much they were costing the U.K. and Canadian taxpayers!!!
so yes we were still paying for them!! 🙄

He is not there to save America or to show the world this or that. He is there because that is the life he feels happier in. And it's his wife's home country. And they have now built a life with a support system of friends and professionals.

No he doesn't need to uproot all that, disruption his family for some randoms on mumsnet. Tbh Meghan and Harry could end poverty, find a cure for cancer and alzheimers, then bring peace to the entire middle east, all in one week, and some people would still criticise all that just because it's them. So no. You wouldn't have more respect for him if he moved to Canada or Afghanistan. Fortunately for him, he is not pausing life waiting for the day you respect him.

How exactly can either of them end poverty when they so obviously are only interested in lining their own pockets?
the rest of your posited ideas of what they could do are not worth mentioning.

why are you so defensive of liars and bullies?
you don’t know them personally?
seems odd to take offence at a fairly inoffensive comment that isn’t personally about you.

I genuinely believe if he'd married someone else, he'd be living a quiet life somewhere like Canada, maybe south of France or somewhere similar. I think he'd be living in privacy, with his children and wife away from the spotlight, working on charitable causes, Invictus and supporting his family quietly. He'd fly back to uk for Christmas and special occasions with his family, maybe continue a few joint charitable ventures with Kate and wils, support Charles and still be loved by the British public who would admire and support his choice for privacy and to have moved away to attain that.

I think if you asked him 15 years ago if he wanted a future where he and his wife were permanently plastered all over the tabloids (by their own choice and own making), where he was the star of his own tell all Netflix show, where he published a book detailing all his family's secrets, where his wife was all over social media posting pictures of herself, him, the home, her children, willingly etc.., where he was no longer welcome in the uk and where he was living the most glitzy, most public life possible, he'd think you were crazy!! And he'd hate the thought!

It's sad how things have turned out. I think Harry would ultimately be happier living anywhere where he can have privacy, get back to doing charitable work, and where he can enjoy having friends again and keeping himself away from the spotlight. However, Meghan wants to be at the heart of Hollywood and crown herself the American sweetheart (and is deluded enough to think she can force the public to love and admire her). So I doubt a move further from Hollywood and the celeb world will be on the cards anytime soon.

In a nutshell.

It would not change my view one bit.

I wish he could have remained in the UK, feel he could have championed and supported the military and veterans.

He still does support veterans and their families. In the uk and beyond. The uk made it toxic for them to stay. Just browse the dailymail.co.uk Everyday there is a negative article about Meghan. Often several a day. Do you think that's fair? Would you want to be in that position or your children in that position? There are more antiMeghan articles in there than there are about Putin or NK's Kim. I often wonder what kids of those vile "journalists" think of them. Although most likely the parents tell them not to read that sh*trag.

Am not saying they can. Of course it's not.possible. it's figurative.

I don't defend them. But I think they are overly criticised and while they have made mistakes (who hasnt) I feel it's become too much. And I stick to my guns. Op wouldn't respect H if they moved to Canada. No one would. There would be another reason to criticise them

Oh contrary, the daily Mail are printing much nicer articles about Harry and Meghan than they are currently receiving from America and globally at the moment!
only h and m are toxic.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2025 13:33

"The UK" did not make it toxic to stay. The UK is a nation and is not a unique body or a hive mind.
If he wanted to leave, that was his decision. He is a lazy, entitled, privileged, multimillionaire aristocrat, not some marginalised activist.
As it was his choice to monetise the privacy of loved ones. Nasty piece of work.

That's because they have a journalist friend publicising all the positives now.

The reason there is criticism is because of their own behaviour, they have told lies and bullied those beneath them .
they slandered an entire country with easily discredited statements.
people don’t like liars and bullies.

Everyone makes mistakes, true. Not everyone lies about events to profit materially and denigrates their family on the world stage.

Someone started a thread about all the proven lies the Sussexes told. It actually ran to four threads. It was quite a shocking read and they've absolutely plummeted in my estimation.
I'm no fan of royalty, but they've actually made me feel a bit sorry for the RF.

BemusedAmerican · 23/03/2025 13:42

Crashing a military ceremony in an American cemetery and making it look like he is being saluted. The Pat Tillman award fiasco. The flying award fiasco. Touring burnt home sites, complete with camera crew, before the owners can go back. Doing his best not to save the environment by non-stop private jets use. The NYPD escort to a tattoo parlor. Yup, he's doing a lot for my country.

Me neither @SuziQuinto!
couldn’t give two figs for the royal family, it was just something that had always been there in the background,
but the behaviour of Harry and to a slightly lesser extent Meghan has now had the totally opposite effect than the reaction they obviously intended.

I know. I thought imagine people making money out of such terrible lies - like racism - and slandering your whole family like that. For money. I never had any time for Charles, but he has so risen in my estimation with his dignity and forbearance.

Pretty much the same as he did for the U.K. @BemusedAmerican, the only slightly saving grace here was obviously he is a prince of the U.K.!

quite why he thinks it appropriate to spoon around a country that threw off the monarchy pretending to be quasi royal is beyond me!

What a nerve! Getting people to call him Sir, bow and curtsey to him, calling his children Prince and Princess, that ludicrous tour of Nigeria....yes, being royal is what he loves. Hypocrite.

I was waiting for people to point out all the lies and misinformation!
the fake videos ( Harry Potter premiere!) ( Katie price court appearance!)
the foreign media used to prove our racist headlines!

it was so obvious to most of the U.K. that it wasn’t true! , I know Americans wouldn’t have seen it straight away obviously but no , the only concession was the fake newspapers being edited out when shown here!

and still we have people believing the rubbish spouted!

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2025 14:03

I think those so called "headlines" they used to inflame matters on the Oprah show have been shown as fake - or at least not from UK mainstream papers. They were taken from an Australian publication and a right wing website.

SuziQuinto · 23/03/2025 14:05

You've got a wonder though, Jeff, about people's critical thinking. Why on earth would you believe and support such shysters? Plus perpetuate their ridiculous lies? Unbelievable.

I'll eat my hat if the grifters ever do anything laudable.

Has he told you he's happier in America? Someone needs to tell his face if so.
