The royal family

To have more respect for Harry if he moved to Canada?

I don’t really follow the Royal Family dramas and although I do feel (very slightly) sorry for Harry I do think he’s been very silly, is self indulgent, done a lot of hurtful things and needs a good kick up the backside.

But, with everything going on in America with Trump and his little pet Musk, wouldn’t it be a great signal to his followers/ the world if he packed up and moved to Canada to show support for them?

Not entirely sure the Canadians would want him, but it would hopefully send a strong message to the world and possibly give him a bit more respect in the public eye.

I genuinely believe if he'd married someone else, he'd be living a quiet life somewhere like Canada, maybe south of France or somewhere similar. I think he'd be living in privacy, with his children and wife away from the spotlight, working on charitable causes, Invictus and supporting his family quietly. He'd fly back to uk for Christmas and special occasions with his family, maybe continue a few joint charitable ventures with Kate and wils, support Charles and still be loved by the British public who would admire and support his choice for privacy and to have moved away to attain that.

I disagree.

He hammed up the happy chappy persona created for him by those clever men in grey and wanted to carve out a 'progressive role' (no wet Wednesdays in Hull, thanks!) immediately prior to the no deal flounce.

He's now associated with some pretty murky charitable endeavours.

It's not beyond the bounds of reason to think any putative associations might have ended up in much the same ditch as Uncle Andy's.

What’s Canada done to you to deserve the whinging bore?

Absolutely! I seem to recall they weren't that happy when he was there before, and there was a bit of a stink created about who would pay for the security - I don't think Canada wants them!

Both Canada and Australia have a formal representative of the Monarch in the form of a Governor General. It would be tricky having Harry doing faux royal visits across an existing system.

Hasn't stopped him so far, if you look at the Sussex royal visits to Nigeria and Colombia.

OP, I (a random person on the internet) would have a lot more respect for you if you moved to New Zealand. When’s your flight?

The heritage foundation won’t stop until they know his visa status /if he lied. The problem for Harry, is the HF is deeply imbedded within the current US admin. They are the ones that developed project 25, which is now a blueprint for the Goverment.

Have to laugh at the poster who thinks it’s unreasonable to uproot his family because of perceived hostility from an institution….thats his whole personality!

Additionally, there are a small number of US celebs that have moved from the US because of Trump. So no, it wouldn’t be unusual to do so. Trump is very unpredictable- he’s been saying he will send US citizens to El Salvadorian prisons!
It’s why even the Obamas, Clinton’s aren’t speaking out on what is a constitutional crisis in the US. They know Trump will pull their secret service protection, bar then from intelligence info etc, Whether the rules let him or not.

What we will see from Harry….is next to nothing over the next four years. Neither he nor Meg have a leg to stand on with their do gooder activism- while she prats about the kitchen as a trad wife selling infomercial crap and he…?….well whatever he does on a daily basis. They will remain quiet while Trump destroys America….shes got packet pancake mix to sell. The whole ‘call to action’, ‘show up do good’, ‘building community’ bullshit….people now see it for what it is…..hollow, empty, vacuous phrases designed only to make them look good.

But he won’t go to Canada, he will spend more time in the UK though

AtIusvue · 22/03/2025 08:08

Proving myself correct- I’ve just seen this.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/21/us/politics/trump-security-clearances-biden-harris-clinton.html

Security clearances being removed.

Anyone he perceives as stepping out of line, he will punish. So that’s why Harry, the dragon slayer, the guy with a global platform that’s all about doing good and standing up to evil institutions….will do nothing and say nothing, while the US is dismantled by Trump n Musk.

SuziQuinto · 22/03/2025 08:55

Harry "the dragon slayer"?! 😂
True, that's probably how he perceives himself 😂😂

SuziQuinto · 22/03/2025 08:57

Brilliant post, @AtIusvue . An excellent summary. 👍

FaerieGodmother · 22/03/2025 09:00

I wouldn't really. I don't respect him especially, but don't hate him like some people seem to. I don't especially respect any of the royals, but I'm Irish so it isn't in my blood the way it seems to be for a lot of British people.

I like meghan more than harry tbh. She made a career for herself and has significantly more charisma. He is punching well above his weight (if he wasn't a prince) imo, but so are a lot of men. She seems to like him

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 22/03/2025 09:18

Uprooting your family to move countries for a “better” lifestyle when you have preschoolers is different to uprooting your family when they are settled in schools and it wouldn’t be for an improvement in your lifestyle, but for political reasons.

I can’t see them feeling an urgency to go part way through the school year. I know on twitter/X it can seem like America is falling apart after only 2 months of Trump, but it’s not at the point British immigrants legally in the USA would feel they have to flee. (That said, I would presume all legal immigrants in the US would be making exit plans in case things go bad fast.)

jeffgoldblum · 22/03/2025 13:11

Poor Canada are having enough issues with trump and America at the moment! I hardly feel this is fair !

LlynTegid · 22/03/2025 13:14

It would not change my view one bit.

I wish he could have remained in the UK, feel he could have championed and supported the military and veterans.

He can champion what he wants. That he doesn't do more is his choice entirely.

Snorlaxo · 22/03/2025 13:23

It wouldn’t change my view at all. Meghan and the children are Americans and should live in the US if they want. Her new business is based on her “perfect” life in California and she is the one who seems to be earning more income for the family than Harry atm
Canada won’t want the ginger whinger. They already had him during 2020 until their move to the US which will be plenty for them.
The celebrities who have left the US (Ellen de Generes, Rosie O’Donnell) have acted like sulky teens announcing their departure from the room and upset that everyone else isn’t sympathising and begging for their return. Harry leaving would be treated the same and create memes and ridicule rather than debating points.

Iloveyoubut · 22/03/2025 13:40

I think he’s done well to remove himself from such a toxic family, none of them are happy, he should stay were he is as his children are settled at school etc. his wife is American.

MrsEverest · 22/03/2025 20:09

Just imagining what all the people who loathe this couple, a group with a very high crossover with the group of people who use words like ‘woke’, would say if he left the US for this reason.

I find it very difficult to believe you’d genuinely applaud such a move OP.

CathyorClaire · 22/03/2025 20:13

Odd then for him to volunteer to step up on emergency ribbon cutting detail when prominent members became ill.

Yes, it's only "toxic" when it suits them. Or generates money.

ACynicalDad · 23/03/2025 11:44

Probably wouldn't get a visa when they ask the drug question and it's now public. It would be a statesman like thing to do, so he almost certainly wont.

BemusedAmerican · 23/03/2025 13:04

It's ironic that homemaker Meghan wasn't able to make her own coffee and healthy breakfast but was sending out Scotland Yard to Tim Hortons for coffee and donuts.
