Charles cancer update

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 20/12/2024 06:34

Charles’ cancer treatment will continue into next year

”his treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year" according to palace sources.

I don’t mean to be a negative Nelly but this doesn’t seem as positive as they’re trying to make out.

Reported on the BBC or ITV that Queen Elizabeth had bone marrow cancer? - what a crock of shite!

AuntyEntropy · 20/12/2024 17:34

EdithWeston · 20/12/2024 17:24

The Palace didn't.

It was Giles Brandreth (who is believed to be well connected to some in the RF) who said it was bone marrow cancer. I think this was repeated by some outlets - so may have been mentioned during a radio broadcast - and sometimes wrongly shortened to bone cancer (which is what I suspect Boris did; I don't think he's terribly sound on science and might not have grasped that there's a very important difference)

Bone marrow cancer is plausible, based on what we what we saw and her need to rest, but bottom line is that we don't know and will probably never know

I agree that Brandreth being knowledgeable but indiscreet and Johnson being indiscreet and careless about accuracy seems a plausible scenario.

lolly792 · 20/12/2024 18:02

A few posters don't understand that plausible scenario does not equal fact.

MerryMaker · 20/12/2024 18:18

What plausible scenario do you have for two people saying she had cancer? And why were they not sued?

lolly792 · 20/12/2024 18:25

Well as the two people mentioned didn't types of cancer, they clearly can't both be true Grin

As for 'why weren't they sued?' .... you don't seem aware that it's extremely rare for the Royal Family to take legal action against people, even when they say far worse stuff!

lolly792 · 20/12/2024 18:25

*different types of cancer

Even ‘bone marrow cancer’ is usually just called leukaemia.

If Johnson was privvy to the Queen's illness and wrote about it in his book he really is a massive massive turd.

He is a turd, and we all know he is. Though in terms of his information, if he said it was raining I'd go outside to check.

Bine marrow cancer, then Boris Johnson said Bone cancer. He probably thought they were the same thing.

Stories are killed all the time by the palace.

Petrasings · 20/12/2024 18:40

I truly wish King Charles well, he is a lovely man and a gentle soul and I hope he is managing his condition the best way possible.

PullTheBricksDown · 20/12/2024 18:45

EmotionalSupportCuttlefish · 20/12/2024 17:14

Yes. They stated that she had been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer.

Despite what other posters have said, I know what I heard. My DH heard it too and his job is all about evidence.

The fact that Boris Johnson et al has stated in his book that she had bone cancer makes this likely also. Hopefully some of the ire that has been directed at me might be directed at him and the other person that also stated this as my simply reporting what I heard on a respected news channel seems to have created so much froth.

Either way. I literally don't care. News outlets are known for reporting stuff at four that they withdraw at six on advice and there is no way of proving one way or another who is right, for another 48 years at least.

You don't know what channel it was on, so tbh the 'respected news channel' and 'I definitely heard it' are not credible. What you've shared is an anecdote, a hazy one at that, and not evidence of anything.

How do you know he’s ’a lovely man and a gentle soul’? 🤢

From what I’ve seen he’s an overgrown brat.

This, 100%

I have just done a straightforward Google of what C the late Queen died of and the first two or three sites state she was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer so I cannot see why my being under this impression also, comes as such a shock.

I stated a respected news channel because we only have terrestrial so it will have been either BBC or ITV. It wasn't Jim Davidson that came up with this.

I don't understand the vitriol that my post has caused. I have never stated it as fact, just that it was on the news. News items are modified from hour to hour on the daily.

WinterCrow · 20/12/2024 19:31

I know that this is a serious subject - cancer treatment and the Head of State - but dear lord, there are posts on this thread that are (nearly) straight outta Viz comic.

You must be using a different Google to me then. Mine says “old age”. She may well have had some form of cancer, but the cancer didn’t necessarily kill her. We went through this at the time she died. We are not designed to be 96 years old. Old age is enough to kill someone. It doesn’t have to be a specific illness. Old age leads to a combination of things that make the body wear out, which may include some form of cancer. However, if that cancer was being controlled as pp have said, it would not in itself be fatal. Cancer varies as is shown by the both sad and heartwarming stories told by other posters of their and their loved one’s experiences. Just because the late Queen may have had cancer doesn’t meant that it was a lie ot inaccurate to say that her death was caused by old age

Patienceinshortsupply · 20/12/2024 19:48

My Dad was very quickly and brutally taken from us in 5 months by liver cancer. It was the most horrendous time imaginable, and I feel incredibly sorry for Charles and Catherine having to navigate their journeys through cancer with the eyes of the world upon them.

No matter what cancer either of them have, it's still a shocking and life changing diagnosis and the treatments are not kind to the body or soul.

WalterdelaMare · 20/12/2024 19:50

I’m pretty sure the old queen’s death cert said ‘old age’ as the cause of death. I remember it being reported at the time as it’s quite unusual nowadays to list that as a cause of death. But my mum died in 2020 and her death cert states ‘frailty of old age’ as the only cause. I can remember rather liking the archaic nature of it.

It's not a 'different Google' - it's different search terms giving different results

@EmotionalSupportCuttlefish searched what cancer did QE11 die of

You searched what did QE11 die of

Yes I realise that. I was being sarcastic 😆

eta I thought it was an interesting illustration of confirmation bias. My simply search was what did she die of as you say. Just goes to show what happens if you search with a pre conceived idea 😆

Surelythistime · 20/12/2024 19:58

Didn’t Lady Colin Campbell blab somewhere about the queens cancer?

I am so saddened by all these cancer stories. I lost a friend to cancer this year within a few weeks of diagnosis and it was just one of the most shocking things.

God knows what you googled, I just googled"what did Queen Elizabeth II die of", and the first entries say old age, various other outlets have taken their stories from the 2 books already mentioned, which as discussed previously are all speculation about possible types of cancer. The BBC and ITV have never said that she died from any type of cancer. Because no such information was ever released!
Why do you persist in saying that she definitely died from cancer when you can't possibly have heard that on any reputable news channel? Absolutely bizarre behaviour, are you one of those people who can never admit you're wrong?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/12/2024 20:15

Kirbert2 · 20/12/2024 13:17

I think referring to it as a good cancer yourself is fine. It’s your cancer.

I just hate it personally for my son due to the complications it has caused. He’s alive and hopefully it won’t come back but other than that, it’s been absolutely life changing. He’ll never be the same again and neither will I.

I understand - and sincere best wishes to you both x

Lay off, will you!

EmotionalCuttleFish has told us what she heard, with convincing detail. I believe she heard what she heard.

I heard stuff reported that day - on the BBC - that has never been repeated since.
