Lack of promotion of POLO has been acknowledged:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/even-prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-want-nothing-to-do-with-their-terrible-new-show-about-polo/

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seem to be galloping away from any association with their new show about polo, after it was ridiculed by critics as a tin-eared foray into the “world’s stupidest sport.”
Notably, there has been no visible promotion for the show, entitled, imaginatively enough, Polo; no interviews or podcast episodes with Meghan or Harry have dropped, and records suggest there are no premieres or press events scheduled to support its launch earlier this week.
It’s a grim turn of events for the couple, once heralded as Netflix’s golden duo. Their own lack of engagement with promotional efforts for the show, which they executive produced and have a cameo role in, suggests even they know it’s a dud.

Sean McNulty, a producer, writer, and Hollywood veteran who also created and wrote the Hollywood newsletter The Wakeup, told The Daily Beast: “This one hasn’t been on my radar at all this week, which maybe says it all right there.”
McNulty noted the absence of coverage in the Hollywood trade papers and the apparent absence of any scheduled premiere or press activity for the series, saying: “The lack of a proper, visible press campaign for a series from Harry & Meghan raises an eyebrow to say the least.”

He said that Netflix has launched “other much higher profile content this week” such as carry on Jamie Foxx and Sabrina Carpenter specials, which suggested Polo “could very well disappear in to the Netflix ether quite quickly.”
Harry and Meghan do not have official social media accounts but their friends who have often promoted things on their behalf have been eerily quiet too.

Even Nacho Figueras, the player sometimes described as the David Beckham of polo, who is one of the stars of the show, only posted a few tweets and one Instagram story about the show earlier this week before moving on.

Even Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Want Nothing to Do With Their Terrible New Show About Polo

The much-mocked show was supposed to be Harry’s marquee project for Netflix

Well yeah and that's the other thing I don't understand - why H&M are not promoting hell out of it either.

A NF exec was at that event with Tyler Perry. Perfect opportunity for MM to do some red carpet interviews with him and promote Polo. I don't understand why they didn't do that.

And if she had you would here saying she is making it all about her and shamelessly plugging her show and taking attention away from Tyler and so on ... so she doesnt do that and you are here commenting to say she should of. 🙄

Vespanest · 13/12/2024 19:24

The ratings on IMBD are showing the team mentality that Harry and Meghan find themselves in. The majority is 1s and 10s, hardly any between 4 and 7 inclusive which is strange for a series. Whilst the numbers are relatively small there appears little objectively in viewing. And UK not the lowest ratings.

I would think viewing figures would be far more useful for longevity. Anyone can rate a series on IMDB and I wonder how many of those rating haven't even watched it, which is unfair to anyone.

A close relative used to work at Michael Parkinson's restaurant, so I am three removes away from all those people Parky interviewed. (The guy who taught me to drive also taught Parkinson's son to drive, so I get enhanced points there, I think.)

Don't get me started on Rolf Harris....

One degree from the Late Queen & Prince Phillip and one degree from William and Harry.
My late great uncle was on the old Queens flight crew for 15 yrs. He flew them all over the world. After he retired, if Phillip was visiting his neck of the wood, he would always arrange a meet up for a drink or tea. My uncle never ever talked about the Royal family, but had a signed photo of the Queen in his study. I’m afraid as a child I thought everyone had an uncle who knew the Queen.
They were invited to countless garden parties and to the royal enclosure at Ascot every year. My uncle was one of the nicest men you could meet, after retiring he volunteered as a driver for the WRVS meals on wheels service for years.
The link to William and Harry I can’t talk about since the friend is still around. It’s not polo related though.

Have you read my other posts on H&M? I comment from a PR & marketing industry perspective because that's where my interests in the couple lie. The evolution and decline of their brand over the last 4 years interests me. So, yes, absolutely she should have been plugging her show. But so should Harry. What makes you imply that the burden of promotion should all be on Meghan? That's unfair on her. Harry should be supporting her. They should be out there as a couple, as co-producers, promoting it together. That is their job as creators of content which they said will 'entertain and uplift'.

However it's not all on H&M; Netflix has also been remiss here, as I said upthread. Live to Lead and Invictus were both flops, so NF should really be making the most of their algo to push Polo in the faces of casual browsers. Instead of which, they seem to be using the algo to actively hide Polo, which is also counterintuitive and commercially counterproductive.

Well, Scobie, my goodness, has been disappeared.

He’s seemingly developing a tv show- I think it’s about someone who works in the press office for the palace. Or something along those lines

so after he said he wasn’t focusing his career on the RF anymore, he’s now developing tv shows…..set around the RF

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14190917/Netflix-bosses-exhausted-working-Meghan-reveals-ALISON-BOSHOFF.html

some interesting bits:

However, well-placed Hollywood executives say that the deal will amount to nothing like $100 million because of the lack of content the couple have actually produced.
Notably, the Sussexes have failed to produce a single drama or movie – unlike their role models Barack and Michelle Obama, whose company Higher Ground has made the hit film Leave the World Behind and critically acclaimed Rustin.
Netflix have bought the rights to the chick-lit book Meet Me At The Lake for the Sussexes – an unusual move, as you would expect the producers to find the cash. But whatever stage the scripting is at, it has yet to enter production.
The same is true for the couple’s TV series retelling the story of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations through a feminist lens with Miss Havisham as the heroine. Again, it has yet to enter production. Neither show, then, looks likely to be completed or broadcast before the Netflix deal is up for renewal.

Also regarding Meghan and her new show :

One Californian source tells me: ‘It’s make or break. People say Netflix are exhausted. It’s so much work with her and, bluntly, the “deliverable” does not seem to be worth it.’
Another entertainment executive remarks: ‘Her show will have to be an enormous hit to turn around their deal and their reputations in this town.’
Well-placed sources indicate the launch of the show and the brand will happen in the first quarter of the year and, judging by the fact that it’s not part of any Netflix schedules in January, we must expect late February – after
Harry’s Invictus Games in Whistler, Canada – or even March for the launch.
A Netflix source says details of Meghan’s project are being shared with only a ‘tiny’ audience of executives in the US.
‘It’s a very tight circle,’ I am told. ‘Everything to do with her is kept completely secret.’
We do know the show will be very much made according to Meghan’s vision, all neutral shades and soft-focus camera lenses.

So a launch for the show AND brand for the first quarter. We were told back on March it would be summer, then it was end of the year. But whenever it is, it does sound like the cooking show will happen

Netflix bosses 'exhausted' working with Meghan, reveals ALISON BOSHOFF

The critics were swift, and brutal. 'Unintentionally hilarious,' said one, who half-wondered whether it was a spoof. 'Tedious,' was a further verdict - while, bruisingly, another just deemed it 'tacky'.

@GiveMeSpanakopita I wonder, from a PR perspective, if the not promoting Polo is to prevent viewer fatigue, for want of a better phrase.

It could be a very strategic plan to effectively position the upcoming cooking show, which we are hearing is going to be the springboard for her home product business. They need to maintain their positioning for that target market and personally promoting Polo might dilute the impact they could have if they went for personal promo for the cooking show. It is already on the back foot, with the delays in both releasing the show and the debacle the launch of American Riveria Orchard has become.

Their brand positioning has taken so many serious hits already, that doing the rounds of the morning and late night shows for Polo could really mess with any semblance of brand credibility they are trying to build for when the time comes to do all of that for the cooking show. I can't think of any other reason neither Netflix nor H&M are promoting it. They probably had to revise their strategy when they realised the cooking show was not ready to launch ahead of the Polo show. The cooking show will certainly be of interest to a wider audience than Polo ever would, so it seems it's the wrong order for both shows.

Sunblessed · 14/12/2024 08:34

I do think there’s an element from NF that the cooking show is where their attention is, so POLO has had zero focus because they knew it was a dud.
If there had been fanfare with the promotion and then it bombed, it would be so much worse. So from a financial sense, they’ve not bothered to promote and draw attention to it.

M&H don’t seem value for money for them. I think that they may be more directly involved with the cooking show, unlike POLO. So having that bit of control, they may get a show they can work with and promote.

It looks to be about March time that the show is coming

Yes, I think she lacks composure. Unless an occasion is totally scripted, with her as the centre of attention, she visibly flounders.

Sunblessed · 14/12/2024 21:18

Scripted she seems fine and full of confidence.
I think it’s because she strives for perfection, so scripted works for her. She has to give off the appearance of perfect- the perfect host, boss, friend, wife etc. We see that coming from her PR with the fruit baskets etc.

But it’s a curated image that isn’t real and I think she struggles in the moment in what looks like the ‘perfect’ thing to do. Often you see videos of her and you can see her brain working overtime trying work out what she should do. It’s why at times it looks like she isn’t really listening to people, or finds herself coming up short with something to say/talking word salad banalities because she hasn’t had time to work out the perfect answer.

She never knows what to do with her hands either- so it’s hands everywhere, playing with her hair, grabbing onto Harry/friends

I think she will be fine on her cooking show though, because she will have complete control of how image
