A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

100 percent!!!

De olde “Invictus Wasn’t Started By Harry” boring rant, can barely believe some are still regurgitating it, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

No wonder Monty Python The Holy Grail’s monk scene springs to mind….

”Pie Jesu Domine, Harry Didn’t Start Invictus (in Latin), Aaaaamen!”

😂😂😂

😂

I agree. Harry must really get under the skin of some people. Or they have a jaded worldview and can’t see how much good he puts into the world. Some of the commenting is like a needle stuck on a record of their top pet hates.

An expenditure on charitable activities of 709k end of 2018
compared to the charitable expenditure at the end of 2022 of 1.93 million.
Why would people not ask questions? Why the huge increase to put on the same event?

MummyJ12 · 20/07/2024 12:43

Time will tell if people continue to donate. Which I doubt if people suspect that their money is going on a 300k wardrobe for Meghan.

DelectableMe · 20/07/2024 12:43

" how much good he puts into the world"
😂Mother Teresa he ain't! He's a greedy, over privileged professional whinger who got a patronage because he was royal and is milking it for all it's worth 😂
That man has brought nothing to the world, apart from the suggestion for a different use for Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream 🤢

Honest to god, it's like 1. She's a highly decorated veteran 2. She thought up Invictus and runs it 3. She's the most special person there. Bonkers.

Meghan's behaviour at Invictus in Dusseldorf was both disgraceful & embarrassing.

Marching at the head of a veterans' parade as if she were their Commander in Chief, whilst wearing a ludicrously inappropriate outfit, showed immense disrespect to the people Invictus is supposed to honour & support.

The event organisers should not have allowed this to happen.

A very reasonable question, to which there are any number of possible answers

The charitable (pun intended) interpretation would be that spending's naturally grown to match the size of Invictus itself, but as ever others are available

I don't disagree, @MrsGusset, though TBH I'd have expected nothing else

But rightly or wrongly the organisers did allow it to happen - whether it was to avoid offending/losing Harry is unknowable - and it'll be their choice as to whether it happens again

... and given their ongoing loss of staff it'll be interesting to watch

AutumnCrow · 20/07/2024 13:14

The money slushing around from 2018 onwards looks like it could have been done - and I would stress the could have - to obtain tax advantages on somebody's personal spending, using the charitable foundation as a vehicle.

That's the trouble with opaqueness and partial publication.

I think Invictus, and all charitable orgs, should publish full accounts for the sake of transparency.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/07/2024 13:21

I agree completely, @AutumnCrow, and it's why I used to do exactly that ... not because anyone was forcing me to, but because it was publicly given money and seemed only fair

Honesty being the best policy it also avoided the chance of anyone, no matter what their motivation, of raising issues around where the money was going

Jaded world view or an ability to see a pair of deluded grifters at work?

Hello?!

Is your head so very far down in the sand? Why are you in denial about the rumbling discontent among IG veterans about the way things are going?
Your post gives away the fact that you consider Invictus to be about Harry, and that's the problem. It's meant to be about the veterans, and Harry's role is to shine light on them and their achievements. if the light shines anywhere else, then Harry's doing something wrong and - you're not helping by misunderstanding Invictus so fundamentally.

No car chases, no dramatics just goodbyes from them and goodbyes from people in the audience…

You thought those cat-calls, shouts, jeers and insults were...goodbyes?

They were a kind of goodbye, I suppose...

Harry putting his good into the world .

Please answer this question, for it is a genuine one: just what good does Harry bring to the world? Seriously? Is it because he is a prince? Is this just a love of royalty?
I don't get it, he's such a greedy, unpleasant person. So negative, and such a liar. I think he's hardly brought anything to anyone much. Apart from himself and his bank account.

I don’t think I’ve known any in real life who hero worship a nasty liar @DelectableMe

Unless of course they are lacking.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 20/07/2024 18:35

@ConstantGarden1 can you give us your insight into why the Invictus CEO has resigned so close to the inaugural Winter games that was his vision and creation?

Do you think he lost the confidence of the armed forces, following the criticism of Admiral Lord Alan West over the Pat Tillman award?

ConstantGarden1 · 20/07/2024 18:42

I refer my honourable commenter to the letter he wrote.

I know. Why hero worship an immature, greedy drug addled man- child who just lies and grifts his way through life? He wouldn't look twice at them.
Anyway, I have been waiting for an answer to this before, and really - there isn't one.

He's not going to burn his bridges or bring the frothing fury of the Sussex Squad down on himself and his family now, is he. Most sensible types don't go off the deep end in their resignation letter. Maybe he also recognises Harry is fragile and can't take criticism.

The resignation is, as previously pointed out, very oddly timed.

Like that song from Breakfast in America…actually could be adapted for Harry.

Reading a tranacript of Harry's Tillman Award acceptance speech, and then reading Harry's statement on Reid's resignation...

I wonder why more of the material in the latter wasn't included in the former.

I was asking for your insight; you seem to have so much of it when it comes to all things Harry, even though you are not a seasoned royal watcher.
