He has given up his case against the DM, just as thread 1 gave up! Continuation for anyone who would like to discuss

Can anyone remember the expected timetable for the Judicial Review itself?

wildernesssw · 19/01/2024 15:52

'reserved to a later date' is all I can find?

750 thousand for the mail case and not even full discovery, another reminder that civil courts are just rich people play toys.

That's the one I'm interested in. It seems like so much trouble for so little potential gain.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/01/2024 15:59

No great surprise, considering the Justice Nicklin said that the Mail had a "real prospect" of showing that his comments were misleading, and if it's true that this came on the deadline for submitting documents he may have had little choice, unless he wanted it proved yet again that his version and the facts don't match

The only slight puzzle if he really was trying to mislead the public is why he let this go on so long. I'd have thought that would be expensive in legal bills, but then he's not exactly known for good judgement

I've seen between May and July this year mentioned Edith, but have no idea if that's right or not

Yes and it doesn’t mean he will be provided with the security he wants, even if he wins.

Exactly.

The best that can happen for him is that his case is sent back for review, but even so, chances are high that RAVEC will come to the same assessment again. So he, and a taxpayer funded government office, will have spent over two years on this 'case' with a good chance of him ending up with no more than he had at the start.

RAVEC have already said that his security needs are kept under constant review and any security will be provided if needed. Nobody has been able to tell me exactly what is wrong with that arrangement.

No, and I doubt they ever will, @IcedPurple

If, as some often write, his security had been "removed" that would be different, but it hasn't and it seems to come down to the difference between what he needs as opposed to wants - and as my old mum used to say, wanting isn't getting

CathyorClaire · 19/01/2024 16:14

Wasn't expecting that.

Does this mean he's been slain by the dragon?

😂Oh it would be so funny if the DM did a statement. It’s nearly The Year Of The Dragon after all. Dragon meets fire with fire!

I'm not sure that it would be all that different.

Several of his aunts, uncles and cousins have had their full time security removed, even though some of them were working royals at the time. Chances are that even had he stayed in Britain and continued in his role, his security would have been downgraded at some point. Round the clock armed security is an incredibly expensive and scarce resource, so it makes sense that these matters are under continuous review.

But you are of course correct to say that Harry's security has not been 'removed'. It's just conditional on risk assessments. Given that he doesn't live in the country and holds no official role, that seems quite generous and reasonable to me. Nobody has ever explained otherwise.

It's all about his truth, remember. Reality is irrelevant

After this news I wonder if he's got much of an appetite for the "Legends of Aviation event " tonight??

There is nothing wrong with that arrangement, @IcedPurple , bar one thing: it's not the arrangement Harry wants.
He wants the status of an Internationally Protected Person, and limitless armed security, wherever and whenever.

If they renamed it 'Legends of Litigation' he might actually deserve it!

Grin

Well at least he can put his £42k win from the Mirror towards his massive 750k costs that he needs to now cough up.

Oh dear Harold. He bit off more than he could chew.

But they are out to get poor Harry!

Mylovelygreendress · 19/01/2024 16:57

I read a ridiculous comment on Twitter this afternoon saying that Harry is so brave as he is willing to risk his security to come over to the U.K. to visit his father and Catherine ( as if William would allow him anywhere near his wife!)
What a hero.,

They haven't sorted the costs of that one yet. He lost half his claims. I reckon he may well be getting another big bill imminently.

What a hero.,

God, his pinched little puce face is the last thing anyone would need whilst recovering.

Hope his legend thing goes well. Legend of aviation though! its just too funny. I hope we have a horrid car chase when he's leaving just to add to his excitement.
