Well do not minimise rapists by comparing a rapist as equivalent to what Harry has done.
This minimisation of rape is common and it is not okay.

I never mentioned rape. Prince Andrew has been mishandling the press since the 1980s. Prince Harry has been mishandling the press since the early 2000s. My comment was that these are examples that the Royal family would prefer not to be repeated.

I think you're reading your own issues into my comments, but I am happy for you to do that.

mantyzer · 05/01/2024 23:33

Prince Andrew used to have very good press. He was viewed as a war hero.
But being an alleged rapist of a sex trafficked girl changed all that. Along with his obvious lying in that TV interview.

The press I read in the 1980s always referred to him as a state funded playboy and I remember one particular story in the tabloids which reported that even within his own family his nickname was Foggy because he was thick and wet.

I'm not saying any of that was true, but it was reported. My only point was that this may be something that the Royal family would prefer to avoid in the future.

mantyzer · 05/01/2024 23:58

I am not and have never been interested in the royal family. I am interested in grooming gangs who get off with their crimes though.
So my awareness of press coverage in the eighties was Andrew was a war hero and popular with the women. He was a young man. Those reading specific Royal coverage may have had a slightly different viewpoint.

Okay. This conversation has clearly moved on from the aim of the original post of the OP, which I think is unfair. I suggest we can continue in DMs, @mantyzer.

That wasn't Andrew. That was Mark Phillips, Anne's ex husband

The press loved Andrew, until he started to get greedy and entitled

Yes it was Mark Phillips. I don’t think anyone who has won an Olympic gold medal is that wet.

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 08:53

Goodness people in glass houses etc😮

AuroraCake · 06/01/2024 09:15

That was Charles who called him that. Hit mean but then Anbe certainly is an adored sibling. I didn't notice it until the way he looked at her in that coronation video. He probably thought he was beneath her.

LaMarschallin · 06/01/2024 09:20

AuroraCake

That was Charles who called him that.

I read it was soldiers in the army who'd come into contact with him.

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 09:20

I disagree. Anne is dim too (yes, I have had the misfortune to meet her! And have dinner with her!). Charles fancies himself on the intellectual front but is too dim to understand that he is actually also very dim.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/01/2024 09:23

I too have met Anne on more than one occasion and found her to be very well informed and insightful .
Of course maybe I too am dim ………

😂

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 09:26

I can't answer for you Mylovelygreendress. My take from the dinner was that Anne was extremely pleased with herself and had zero conversation, hence my dim comment. She was also extremely rude to a particular group of people which did nothing to endear her.

crumblingschools · 06/01/2024 09:27

@goodbyestranger for someone who obviously hates the RF why would you meet them?

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 09:30

I had to. Three line whip unfortunately despite having had a baby only days prior.

Also I don't hate them; my overriding emotion is contempt.

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 09:31

To be fair to myself I was younger and greener. These days in the same position I would say no fuck off.

Mylovelygreendress · 06/01/2024 09:36

To be fair , if someone treated me with contempt , I wouldn’t engage with them either. On the occasions I have met Anne she has been lovely .
She and her husband were at a golf event at Gleneagles and we chatted before I realised who she was . Very down to earth .
Other occasions were through charity work and -as I said - she was extremely knowledgeable.
Certainly not dim.

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 09:39

I didn't treat Anne in any way other than slightly distracted (by the baby) politeness.

Certainly not at all bright.

lepapillon I was listening to her engage with the people immediately around us - so you're absolutely wrong. I had no interest in her engaging with me. Her conversation put pay to any interest I might have had. It was extraordinarily dull.

We clearly have different assessments of what constitutes clever, which is absolutely fine.

If you could avoid more personal attacks that would be great too :)

Various sources now reporting that he is going to Eton

Kate Middleton 'heartbroken' over Prince of Wales' decision on George's future

The Princess of Wales is said to be heartbroken over the potential decision for Prince George to be sent off to Eton College in just a few years time - in order to follow in his father's footsteps.

That sounds like made up bollocks to me. Of course he was going to go to boarding school. Whatever school he went to he was going to be ' packed off' to boarding school' at 13.

goodbyestranger · 06/01/2024 13:42

It sounds like the PR guys think they made a boo boo with the quick briefing re Malborough. The second stage hasn't even happened yet so it would be premature even if George had passed the first stage. I'm standing my ground very firmly :) Just a stunt.
