No disrespect to her but people and the media often talk about her sense of duty, her stability and professionalism but what would would say are some of the things in her last 15-20 years on the throne that you would criticise her for?

My obvious response is how she handled the Prince Andrew situation and staying on the throne as long as she did. She should've abdicated 10 or 20 years before her death, in my opinion

what a mother does in private is one thing, but to publicly support him when you are the head of state is wrong.

Exactly.

yes actually, the way parents respond to what their children do matters, and can be criticised. HER behaviour is what is being criticised, what she did in response as mother and Queen. We are absolutely entitled to criticse the monarch for giving her son the Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order at a time when he was being accused of sex crimes involving young people. It was disgusting and remains a strain on her character and judgement.

This 100%

She professed "concern" about Andrews role as freeloader Trade Envoy and his friendship with Epstein YEARS before it all imploded. Well..."concern" is weak,.she didn't actually do anything, did she? Concern....pathetic.

And when his Advisors told him he should be staying at the Embassy and not at Epstein's NY mansion, he told them to eff off and he was only answerable to HMQ.
Again, she did nothing

She was weak as far as reining him in and it showed the RF up in a dreadful light. If she had threatened to remove him from the TE role earlier on,maybe it would not have ended up as a hugely damaging shitshow with her paying out millions to a sex trafficked girl.

She had plenty of leverage over him. She didn't use it. End of

Absolutely spot on. There is really no excuse for her behaviour at all.

they might vary. (hate that awful recollections sly thing) but she did have him accompany her to church, it was seen (otherwise how would we know.)

polkadotdalmation · 11/08/2023 14:49

Unfortunately Samcro the option to lock him up in the Tower doesn't exist anymore. Such a pity 😂

I think Charlie and wills are making sure he disappears as much as possible. No mother love, get out of jail card now.

Roussette · 11/08/2023 15:30

Of course Charles and William are exerting tighter control over him. I imagine there's no love lost between brother, nephew and Andrew. They have to be seen to be keeping him under control whatever they think.

Shame his Mother didn't when it mattered.

Samcro · 11/08/2023 15:44

I had a lot of time for the queen, but she was human and made mistakes. taking him to church , when she knew it would be seen was on of those. dress up at her funeral was also bad .
hopefully now we will see even less of him.

CathyorClaire · 11/08/2023 21:07

He was allowed to play velvet curtain dress-up at the coronation, the touted Royal Lodge eviction isn't happening and it's business as usual with Anne and Ed.

He's going nowhere fast.

CathyorClaire · 11/08/2023 21:15

Andrew is the gift that never stops giving to the anti monarchists.

TBF while he's the most obvious poster-boy, the rest of the circus is finally and thankfully falling under far more scrutiny than ever before.

Samcro · 12/08/2023 08:15

my mistake it was the coronation not her funeral that he played dress up.

PrincessTigger · 12/08/2023 09:00

I think it would be poetic if they exiled him to the Falklands

I believe they are seeking a 'diversity officer' currently.

Yes its funny that anyone thinks it's just Andrew that is the most obvious problem, er... no. Charles has had too much close contact and personal relationships with pedophiles for a King. It's shocking. More recent controversies too like cash for honours, the huge increase in funding during cost of living, his complete dismissal of his son while his disgusting brother stays close in a huge mansion... none of it reflects well on our current King. The recent cost of the Crown series in the Guardian also has plenty for republicans to shout about too. That's not even getting into the way the Queen grabbed the seabed and all the laws she made sure they were exempt from. A very greedy monarch she was.

polkadotdalmation · 12/08/2023 11:19

If Charles is guilty by association with Jimmy Saville, then so are literally thousands of others, both professionals (drs, nurses etc), wealthy, influential, fundraisers and normal people in the UK. I watched Jim'll fix it as a kid, so that makes me guilty too.

jeffgoldblum · 12/08/2023 12:33

@polkadotdalmation , I remember clearly when saville died , posts on mn grieving him , celebrating his life and I remember the odd post implying his awful behaviour, those posts and posters were vilified and deleted and told they were disgusting for disrespecting a dead man!
Then all the truth came out and suddenly there is mass amnesia on mn and everywhere else !
Now everyone knew or suspected!

I can’t for the life of me understand why he was so well liked, I always found him so creepy even before I knew

polkadotdalmation · 12/08/2023 12:41

@PrincessTigger That's indeed the odd thing. Everyone thought he was creepy and he made them uncomfortable but somehow his massive fame, his incredible efforts for charity and his friendships with famous people induced some kind of monumental gaslighting of the public. I think because he did so much it obscured the man behind the actions. Seeing him wheeling trollies at hospitals and learning he regularly worked as a porter for free, or running marathons, or smiling with government officials or the royals, meant you never saw the man only the actions. It really is the weirdest thing. Needs a psychologist to unravel it.

jeffgoldblum · 12/08/2023 12:43

Me too! @PrincessTigger , thought he was creepy as a child and my dad would change the channel but lots just thought he was a 'character' of course nobody really could know the full scope of his ' character'.

jeffgoldblum · 12/08/2023 12:45

Rolf Harris was a shock to me ! , I loved watching him as a child grew up copying his art , such a shock, and bill Cosby , I used to joke that he was my other dad !

I think that is an important point about all of the activity deflecting from the kind of person he really was was and some of that may have been deliberate. I once knew someone who had spent time in Stoke Mandeville who said that Savile was a very different person when the cameras were not on him. He had a great dislike of Savile and thoughy all his do-gooding was a sham. He didn't say anything that indicated that he had any idea of the kind of things Savile was really up to though so I think he was good at hiding those things.

polkadotdalmation · 12/08/2023 13:36

@meercat23 Definitely a lot of smoke and mirrors where abusers are living in plain sight ☹️

LadyEloise1 · 12/08/2023 14:10

Saville came to Ireland to great fanfare, leading charity walks for an Irish charity. Its patron was an Anglo Irish member with a title.
I doubt she had any idea of his evil, disgusting proclivities.
He had access to vulnerable people with disabilities here.
It makes me sad to think that there was no real investigation into his activities here.

I don't think there has been any real investigation into any of his ' activities' even now , I believe those that knew deliberately hushed it all up till after his death on purpose.

If Charles is guilty by association with Jimmy Saville

not talking about him. Peter Ball.
