The royal family

Self pitying, angry hoarder - King Charles

An article in The Times has a lot of revelations about King Charles, including that he is prone to melancholy and self-pity, indecisive and stubborn, with an explosive temper - he would kick furniture in rage. He had no interest in hearing criticism, and sought out people who agreed with him. One dinner companion realised that he became actively annoyed if challenged. Charles’s homes are cluttered, with one friend calling him an outright hoarder. And unlike the Queen spends lots of money on himself.

Many agree that what Camilla, excels at is managing him: cheering him up when he’s glum, indulging him when he needs it, geeing him up when he doesn’t and knowing how and when to persuade him of a particular course of action when his staff have tried and failed. “Leave it with me,” she says to courtiers, with one press secretary describing her as “the final court of appeal”.

“If the Queen had taken half as much trouble about the rearing of her children as she did about the breeding of her horses,” a private secretary remarked drily to Robert Lacey, “the royal family wouldn’t be in such an emotional mess.”"

He was a cheating twat who married another cheating twat when his young wife died.

milti · 11/03/2023 15:38

@SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain his young wife was also a cheat but yes Charles was spineless

milti · 11/03/2023 15:39

He should never had married Diana - he didn’t love her and they had nothing in common. She was 19! Appalling

Charles’ ancestor, Queen Victoria was notorious for her bad moods, rowing with Albert and storming about the palace when in one of her famous temper tantrums. The late Queen’s father was also prone, and once destroyed a rose bush in a fit of rage. Margaret was rude and demanding and Andrew yelled at everyone he considered beneath him. I suspect genetics probably play a part here.

All the research says it is nature and nurture. So someone might be born with a tendency towards anger, but good parenting can teach them how to manage that temper.

Talking of serious wealth... Charles has just done something that pleases me greatly.

He has told Andrew he's not going to sign off the £32,000 p.a. for a live in yoga teacher. Queen had been signing it off for years apparently. Charles has blocked it.
Good. I am enjoying the thought that PA doesn't have his Mummy covering for him and indulging him anymore.

But FFS £32,000 a year for this out the public purse over years (and yes it came from the Sovereign Grant) I dread to think how much of this extravagence there is that we don't know about.

More of this please Charles.

I know I’m missing the point spectacularly, but he doesn’t look like someone that has a live-in yoga teacher…

It really was a complete and utter balls up.

I remember at the time when the pressure was on for Charles to get married, the papers went on and on about it. I remember thinking oh do shut up, let the bloke find the right person. (I say this as a person who married later in life and my parents put the pressure on lol)
I think he is a bit ummm... weak at times, and just would not wait for anyone more suitable.

MissMissive · 11/03/2023 16:39

Imagine Charles on one of those TV programmes for Hoarders…. They’d be wrestling broken fountain pens out of his hands.

Betcha it's £32,000 a year for Sarah... she sounds like she'd do all that meditating. I can't imagine Andrew meditating lol

My first thought too! 😝 Bet there's no 'yoga teacher '

I think she spends a lot of time there (disclaimer... I don't know) but I always remember on a thread about the Queen's funeral, someone posted that their DP was a traffic policeman and escorted her back to Wiltshire after the funeral straight after.
(As I say... disclaimer... no idea if that is true)

I wouldn’t blame her. Dealing with a death in any family is tough but I can’t imagine how she found the energy to carry out all those commitments when the Queen died.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/03/2023 17:51

No no! I was replying to derxa who was talking about her Dad. Not saying PA or Charles had a string of racehorses yikes!

Oops - sorry Roussette, my mistake Blush Smile

Yes, he needs to get Stacey Solomon round. She'd soon sort out all his old junk.

@Gilmorehill Dealing with bereavement is always very tough. But lots of ordinary people get no more than the day of the funeral off work for in laws. Its not right I think, but lots of people just have to get back to full time work.

The trouble is that Charles is not as bright as he thinks he is and he surrounds himself with yes men.
none of them are very bright. Perhaps because their parent were third cousins?

DessertsForAll · 11/03/2023 18:59

Charles seems the brightest of the bunch so this perhaps makes him think he is brighter than he is? The bar is pretty low.

Most people haven't had to do their mourning with the eyes of the world's press following every move, randoms commenting on every aspect of your demeanour and dress, interspersed with your spouse becoming monarch. I think, after a week of public ceremonial duties, home, privacy, peace and nice cup of tea in front of the fire is the least she deserved.

DessertsForAll · 11/03/2023 19:07

@Coxspurplepippin Bereavement is hard for anyone. But Elizabeth was a very elderly woman and it was expected.
I will save my sympathy for people who have to go back to full time work after the funeral, sometimes to very stressful jobs, and then struggle to pay for the funeral. About 20% of people need to take out loans to pay for the funeral.
If you are trying to say Camilla had a much harder time than anyone else bereaved then I think that shows an incredible lack of understanding of what many people go through.

OP posts:
Coxspurplepippin · 11/03/2023 19:13

I didn't say she had a harder time, but your post was very dismissive of the strain she would have been under. Your disdain is evident.

BeatricePortinari · 11/03/2023 19:23

Not many 75 year olds have jobs they have to continue doing until they die.

lyingonthebeach · 11/03/2023 19:26

I still miss The Queen (Elizabeth). Her steady hand. Her lack of self. Her dry humour. Her decency. Just that she was always there.
