To be shocked at this from mental health charity founder?

Marjorie Wallace who founded mental health charity SANE in 1986, said when asked about Meghan Markle saying she had suicidal thoughts that she doesn’t ‘respect people who take victimhood on as a career’.

This is shocking. Do people hate Meghan so much that all ethics and morality is jettisoned?

@purpledalmation She was concerned she would kill herself and wanted to go to an in patient facility.
You did a module and placement in mental health so you should know better than to diagnose someone based on what they wrote and said on the TV. No professional would attempt to do that.

What diagnosis have I made? I've said she was upset and stressed. I've also pointed out in great detail how she would have easily got help but failed to do so. My question is simply why didn't she get help from the multiple sources that were available? On the basis of that I don't believe someone who overdramatises to create victimhood. She has been proven to lie multiple times, but if you say I have to believe her, then, for the sake of peace and quiet, I'll agree with you.

@purpledalmation She said she was suicidal and was worried she would do something. You said she was exaggerating i.e. you do not think she was actively suicidal. That is a mental health diagnosis and would normally require a face to face assessment.

@purpledalmation You're talking rubbish. In Netflix ep 4, she talks about feeling suicidal, Harry and her mother talk about it too. MM says she "wanted to go somewhere to get help, but she wasn't allowed to". The palace was too concerned about how it would "look". Harry says he is ashamed that he didn't help her more.

How much more do you want - anti-depressants? Doesn't sound like she received any. Midwives? Perhaps they were as hostile as the courtiers and the rest of the palace towards her. I don't think she had "more than adequate access to support" - Harry says that the family told him she should just suck it up.

She also never said she had post partum depression, she was pregnant at that time.

milking and exaggerating this situation to add to her victim narrative is distasteful. It does a massive disservice to people with mental health problems who are crying out for help.

Minimising the experiences of a woman who talks about feeling suicidal while pregnant is extremely distasteful and does a disservice to people with MH problems too. You (and Wallace) are not doing MH workers any favours either with your attitude. You seem extremely judgemental and uncaring. I would hate to have to go to someone like you at my lowest time of need.

another case of context making it worse.

I am Shock that @purpledalmation was a MH professional. But then I'm also Shock at what MW said. They should well know that being rich doesn't mean you can't be suicidal or have difficulty getting help.Hmm

Anyone can say there’re anything on here. 😉

Saying that, one of the first things I’ve ever heard said to someone with depression was from a medical professional. There’s some right c@nts in all walks of life. Many are best ignored.

chocolateismyjam · 24/01/2023 20:51

She was UNHAPPY then, trapped in a cold hellhole, with the press hounding her constantly. This was supposed to have been her life, FOREVER. I would have been slitting my wrists if I was stuck there forever too.

Oh my God, the hyperbole here 🙄Fucking please.

I agree with PurpleDalmatian.

Should rename this thread the purple prose thread 😂

@ClearRunning Yes, anyone can say anything on here. I'm not a MH specialist...6 months was enough to say it wasn't for me. Sad that you can't be critical of other peoples point of view without resorting to insults. The word is 'cunts' by the way.

If a cunt is someone who looks at the facts rather than a self serving, whining 'documentary', ditto interview and 'autobiography', then my cunty tiara is well and truly on my cuntish head.

purpledalmation · 24/01/2023 21:16

@Bugeyedowl I know she was pregnant at the time, I pointed that out multiple times. Presumably she did give birth and could have suffered PND as a likely result. No mention of that. And why didn't her mother get her help? She was supposed to be a social worker at one point? MM, her mother and Harry all terrified into silence. like thats possible!

As @ClearRunning points out, anyone can say anything. Like I can say I was a MH specialist (I'm not and didn't say that). Equally Meghan Markle can say she was suicidal.

When I worked in A&E a man came in saying he was hearing voices, the whole shebang. Had me convinced. Seen by the Crisis team, who sent him on his way quite happily with a referral to a homeless shelter. All he wanted was a bed for the night. So people can and do feign mental health issues for ulterior motives.

Needless to say, most don't and should be believed and respected. People who use MH for their own ends do these genuine people a great disservice.

I shall now hide this thread so don't bother replying, you are giving me a headache.

Not sure where you get your "facts" from, but bye.Smile

LavenderHillMob · 24/01/2023 22:20

Meghan's fairytale didn't quite live up to expectations. She rushed in to marriage with a dim and unpredictable partner who admits to alcohol and drug issues. It's not surprising that she wasn't in a good place.

On the other hand I don't find it credible that there was no professional, confidential help available. And if there wasn't the blame would be with Harry and no one else.

PicturesOfDogs · 25/01/2023 00:23

People want to comment tht the RF didn’t help Meghan, but no one wants to point out Harry didn’t tell them about how she was feeling because he was ASHAMED of it. From his own mouth.

He’s apparently so scared of ‘history repeating itself’ that his own wife threatened suicide to him, and he did absolutely fuck all because he was ashamed she was feeling like that?

How people defend this pathetic weak man is beyond me

I worked with mental health patients for 6 months as part of a module. Inpatient not community. And again assessed acutely ill patients in A&E before referring them to the crisis team, but you're right. I know nothing.

You're doing your bit to boost the reputation of the medical profession then. Thank goodness you didn't choose it as your specialism, is all I can say.
