@Soothsayer1
Oh yes . Being a woman and an elderly one is a HUGE factor - you are right

Very hard to boo an elderly woman

Mind you .... camilla's had a few close shaves so it's not the whole story ...
I think part of it is also that post war Britain had a slow decline in influence and lots of people ( weirdly ) think that having 'royals' makes the UK special - in particular the delusion that there is some vestige of 'empire'
They don't seem to u defray and that empire is toxic

Novella4 · 14/04/2023 14:04

Don't seem to realise that should be

Novella4 · 14/04/2023 14:05

@AskMeMore

"Roussette is the one I admire. Posting here for years in spite of constant insults."

I agree - I have learnt a lot from Roussette and read her posts for years

Roussette · 14/04/2023 14:11

Aww shucks! Thank you kind people. But I definitely learn more from others, seriously I do

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2023 14:15

I read the numbers are falling fast re individuals ( I'm choosing my words carefully here) who want to spend their Easter Sunday morning clapping the Winsdors

I didn't clock the "crowds", though as already mentioned I noticed Andrew was there Hmm - but this brings to mind the shorter procession on 6 May

I wonder if part of the reason might, just might be to make whatever crowds there are seem more, given they'll be spread through a much smaller area?

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 14:17

There is talk there are going to be tiered stands for some of the route to make the crowds seem larger. So it makes sense they would also cut the route for the same reason.

Yes this has been said. 70 years ago it was just rammed but they are concerned they won't be the number of people so I think they are putting in tiered seating to make it look more or something. To be honest I'm not that interested so don't have the details!

Ooops sorry, I must learn to read before I post

I can believe it, Roussette, though they do often play down expectations with these things just in case there's not the interest

That said, I've not seen much this time along the lines of "Charles doesn't want a huge fuss making" ... quite the reverse, though whether he'll get it remains to be seen

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 14:38

@Roussette Its fine. I think it was in the Guardian. They said it will be sold to the public as offering them a better view.

Roussette · 14/04/2023 14:47

There are a couple of posters on MN who are going, and even camping out one of them I think. I would love an unbiased view of how busy it actually is/was, because we won't see a true pic on telly

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2023 14:52

So would I, but whether we'll get one is something else (and I'm quite prepered to be wrong if millions show up)

Perhaps the inevitable shot along the Mall will give a reasonable idea? At the various events for the late Queen you could hardly get a fag paper between the people, so that could be interesting to see

We took our (young) children into Central London the day before the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, to see the Mall dressed up with all the flags etc. We may well do the same before the Coronation too - it will be interesting to see if there’s a difference. The area around the Palace was very busy indeed last time, even though nothing was actually happening on that day!

Look on Twitter .

There are often snaps ( pro monarchy and anti ) which show things from a different angle !

Crowds are definitely down for all 'royal' appearances / walkabouts .
Didn't one of them - Zara's husband maybe - remark how small the crowd was on Easter Sunday ?
Get used to it mate .

And I also suspect some people are bussed in ( whether they like it or not lol ) or are employees with NDAs

I don't see walkabouts continuing much longer .

They were another ( yes another !) PR wheeze - I think Elizabeth's men in dark suits pushed it as a way make the Windsors more relevant.
It worked for a while .

I'd be interested to hear, nif you go again!

I can't say I blame you considering the in-your-face security Charles seems to need

In his late mum's day they were there (obviously!!) but discreetly, and spotting them was all part of the day, whereas now they'd be up his backside if they got any closer

Roussette · 14/04/2023 15:42

It will be interesting because hardcore Royalists absolutely revel in the walkabouts. Not necessarily being there but following every move on footage of them
Surely they need walkabouts for exposure and relevance.
Or won't we all be saying...what are we paying all this money for...

Some of us are saying it already, Roussette, and personally I'm waiting to see what happens about the usual post-coronation Commonwealth tour. However I guess staunch monarchists had better just hope William's reign isn't too long in coming - providing he can keep his and Kate's images pristine of course

Charles has spent so long being a divisive figure that's it's hardly likely anything would change once he succeeded, so in the absence of actually getting rid of him it's perhaps as well that the RF tend towards the longer view

Show me the public accounts that demonstrate this illegal theft and I'll personally call the police. I don't indulge in conspiracy theories, unfounded allegations, hyperbole, hysterical language or extreme opinions.

If the Guardian published something that was incorrect- the RF would be letting it known directly or indirectly that the articles are libellous. They have not and I doubt the Guardian will have published these articles without being completely sure of their veracity. Do you want to ask the police to investigate?

I didn’t see this comment, but the family were walking from the royal apartments at Windsor Castle down the hill to St George’s chapel, which is also inside the castle walls, and then walking back up again after the service.

Windsor Castle and it’s grounds were closed to the public until after the church service was completed on Easter Sunday (it says so on their website, if you want to check). So there was never going to be a crowd, and whatever Mike Tindall said can only have been directed at the press corps, as that’s all that were there inside the castle grounds.

I don't even understand your post. Are you saying the RF have broken the law, its been reported in a national paper, and the police are refusing to act?

No. They are trying their best to uncover the facts. Not easy.

Nothing they have that is libellous but you would have to read the articles to understand

So the RF have not done anything illegal? This was the accusation. Libel is an insignificant misdemeanor compared to illegality which is what the poster said. More hyperbole? People should post facts. Proveable facts. Not chinese whispers in print media or on SM

I’d just wait. If it’s something rather that The Guardian stirring it’ll come out.

They love a bit of click bait so it might be something or nothing.
