The utter and constant lack of grace from this couple just beggars belief 🙄.

This.
Hugely wealthy middle-aged man constantly moaning, is not a good look.

milveycrohn · 27/10/2022 13:04

It was Diana who first called him the 'Spare'. Did we call P. Anne, P. Andrew or P. Edward the spares?
I don't remember that we did.
However, I DO think we continually have a problem with second children, namely P. Margaret, P. Andrew. P. Harry.
They start off being close to the throne, and gradually slip down the list of succession. I'm not sure why they are not educated or trained to have a proper career. The one I have the most respect for is the Duke of Gloucester who WAS a second son, with a proper job, but his father and brother died very close together.

sashagabadon · 27/10/2022 13:04

Countless people are spares in life. There are more spares than heirs.
Margaret, Andrew, Anne, Edward, Charlotte and Louis are also all spares. Are we meant to feel sorry for them all too?
Maybe Harry thinks he is the only spare that matters?

Ladytreacle · 27/10/2022 13:04

@MrJi 38 isn't middle-aged.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 27/10/2022 13:04

Sounds like it's going to be a humungous whinge-fest about how hard done by he is.

This. He has turned himself into a one-trick whinging pony. At some point the world will tire of it / he'll run out of material. What then?

It's well-documented that he isn't the brightest but even by those standards the lack of foresight is quite something.

Readinginthesun · 27/10/2022 11:44

It’s a very negative title .

Yes, speaks volumes.

Well, quite. Everyone in the entire family except William and George are “Spares”.

“Incredibly Wealthy and Privileged but Second-born, so Misses out on Job For Life”

would also be accurate, but let’s face it, its not as a catchy is it. 🤣

😂

LondonWolf · 27/10/2022 13:16

At what point should he have left? Straight after his mother's funeral? Abused woman don't leave immediately.

Are you genuinely equating a spoilt, wealthy, Prince who had every opportunity in life with a battered woman?

MidnightConstellation · 27/10/2022 13:16

As this is the first of three books I think , we can have fun speculating on the titles of the others!

toomuchlaundry · 27/10/2022 13:17

I think King George VI would have quite liked to stay the spare rather than have to take the throne after the abdication

BlueRidge · 27/10/2022 13:17

@Derxa, I actually agree with you. We all walked behind my father's coffin - if felt respectful and we wanted to escort him to his resting place in a way.
No, we didn't have the whole world watching, nor was I a teenager, but it could be argued that it might feel even more important to protect or guard one's parent in a way.

Hilarymantelspencilsharpener · 27/10/2022 13:20

MidnightConstellation - one of them will probably have the word Freedom in the title, and a Me/Myself/I (apols to Joan Armatrading)

Very true - he was devastated to have to take on the throne and wasn't really cut out for it. The Queen Mother apparently felt that the pressure and responsibility hastened his death - who knows, he was a heavy smoker, after all but he wasn't a healthy man beyond that. He was shy and had a serious speech impediment and showed as far less confident in public than the more outgoing Edward viii.

I'm equating an abused, traumatised child as a victim. Saying a small child should have left the RF is ridiculous.

Ooh, I sense a trilogy coming with the following titles pencilled in….

SPARE
REPAIR
BILLIONAIRE

🤣🤣🤣

JaneJeffer · 27/10/2022 13:23

Spare Prick

toomuchlaundry · 27/10/2022 13:24

Could the second book be called ‘Us’ as in Spare Us and the third book doesn’t get commissioned!

Riapia · 27/10/2022 13:24

Surprised he didn’t call it “victim “

So you was an adult then? He lost his mother and his father had been distracted for years dreaming of being a tampon. And the whole world knows. But don't have sympathy for him because at least he had money eh.

That's interesting. Yes I made a speech at my father's funeral and it was full of jokes which the congregation laughed at. That was my way of coping. Of course the funeral of your mother when you're only 12 is a terrible event but it would have been terrible whatever Harry had done. Honestly though people have had to endure their mother's early death throughout time. They just have to get on with it. Seek therapy, lean on friends and family. But a book?

lunar1 · 27/10/2022 13:25

@PoseyFlump, I don't think that all that's happened in his life, we all have multiple events that shape us.

Harry is working with Netflix, he can't profit from events while still feeling sorry for himself and expecting us to do the same.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 27/10/2022 13:25

Does anyone even really believe he has "written" this book or chosen the title. He will have sat with some (patience of a saint) ghostwriter who has led him through interviews and then written it up.

The Katie Price style of "writing".

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 27/10/2022 13:26

Well, I won’t be buying it. He’s such a misery guts these days. He used be the fun one. He was really close to HM. She was proud of him joining the army and put him on a pedestal. Anyway, I thought they wanted privacy. I think I’ll do that by not buying his book.

Depends on your life style. The average life expectancy for a man in the NE is 77. So 38 would be in the middle of many people’s lives.
