Apparently most friends said a polite NO while noting the irony that H would have had a fit if they talked to the press. Hmm

Prince Harry asked his friends and ex-girlfriends to feature in Spare

The Daily Mail article is a bit of conjecture and one ‘unnamed source.’

Coronateachingagain · 30/10/2022 22:14

38 seconds into this link - you could spare Harry some slack for calling his book Spare. After all, his mother referred to him as "some sort of backup".

Rod Liddle? The Rod Liddle who was arrested for punching his pregnant girlfriend and who wrote that election days should be on a Muslim religious day so that Muslims couldn't vote, and Tories could gain extra seats, oh...and he ridiules DV victims. that Rod Liddle?

He spews out bile in the manner of Levin et al so hardly surprising he would write an insulting and unpleasant article such as this and hardly surprising some MNers would really like it

I know nothing about him . He’s got the measure of Harry though.

Thanks for the share token. This did make me chortle;

Finally, Harry tells us that it is an interesting story because he has “worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively”, which made me worry briefly that this would be a book solely about Harry’s favourite hats, those he liked and those he felt were less attractive — which would in my view be an account which risks teetering into tedium, even if it keeps his dad happy.

😃 I don't know him at all. But you seem to know his background well, at such an opportune time - very impressed

Eh?!

I've known of Rod Liddle for years and years, no idea what's impressive about that! You might not know of him. I do

Coronateachingagain · 30/10/2022 22:27

Yes you do seem to know about him very very well 😉

No idea what you're on about 🤣

Coronateachingagain · 30/10/2022 22:33

No idea of what you are on about either 😅 - anyways the point is this Times' guy Liddle seems to have got the sentiment around the book release quite well.

Yes, I laughed at that. I wonder how the publishing house let this one slip through? Many thanks for the share token.

Can’t wait to read about the hats; this is the one I wear when I’ve been naughty, this one is Meghan’s favourite, this is my happy hat, this is my angry hat 😂

Coronateachingagain · 30/10/2022 22:42

Well in my view Harry mostly wore a hat marking him as a privileged prince. And he still wants to wear that hat, for much less than his previous bargain.

When you think of this situation you can only understand how out of date the monarchy system is when dealing with the many unwanted scenarios here.

If anything, the whole drama will make people think more and more, do we really need to deal with all of this. Do we really need to pay for this family. Which is what Harry (or Meghan) may want after all. Except they still want to get paid for "simply existing".

Maybe the hat he really wanted was the one in the Tower of London…

Listening to Diana's interview again, obviously she had bulimia, and I don't doubt postnatal depression. But I've never believed she cut herself - arms and legs she said. I remember discussing it at work at the time. Show me one picture of her with scars or recent injuries to arms and legs. She had beautiful skin and often bare arms or legs.

Arnaquer · 30/10/2022 23:24

Harry's Hats - when he's really struggling to make ends meet he could open a chapeau shop.

Serenster · 30/10/2022 16:54

People weren’t happy because he was a Muslim. Yes there was the cash for questions scandal but it as secondary to him being a Muslim.

This is still several years before 9/11, remember. At the time, being Muslim (and a very moderate Muslim as Dodi was - he was a playboy, a womaniser and an alcohol drinker) was nowhere near as controversial as it would later become.

I think you’re mistaken if you believe being a Muslim only became controversial after 9/11. It goes back way before then and the mid 70’s which is when I became involved with Muslims in my social circle were awful.

She was also embarrassing her son....
(Singular as I assume Harry was too young to understand).

What 14or15 year old teenager isn’t embarrassed by their mum. Especially if they think their mum might be having sex with someone?

Most teenagers of that age, I think, especially back in the 1990s.

Morestrangethings · 31/10/2022 04:27

Sorry, Rousette, this was a response to another post. Not sure how that happened. And no delete button, dammit.

You have strong views on Rod Liddell due to his past behaviours I see Roussette? Fair enough.

I don’t see why then you don’t accept that plenty will have equally strong views about exam-cheating, photographer assaulting, nazi uniform wearing, racial slur using, hugely privileged Prince Harry spewing out bile about his family members who he absolutely knows will not be in a position to respond, for money? Bit inconsistent, no? It was ever thus, I suppose.

upinaballoon · 31/10/2022 08:31

(Aside. On Friday's The Now Show there were two voices sounding as if they were in a soap opera . One was meant to be Harry's and one was meant to be Charles's. It was followed by the Eastenders music, as if it was the end of an ''explosive episode':

"I am not your son."

"Yes, you are."

Bomp, bomp, bomp........... )

No DNA test is needed to see who is Harry's father. When he was a little boy I think it was reasonable to wonder if James Hewitt was, if you weren't sure of the time lines, but now his face is older there's no doubt.

Morestrangethings · 31/10/2022 09:06

Why does the Royal Family get to hold the position that “ they can’t respond.” They absolutely can. There is no law stopping them according to another poster on MN (I asked). And I’m fairly confident that it is so.

They choose not to respond publicly because it is to their benefit not to respond publicly . It’s a clever tactic. “The Royal Family can’t respond” And people accept it as though it’s law. If they don’t want to respond that is their right. But saying “they can’t” is not true.

pumpkinscoop · 31/10/2022 09:11

Morestrangethings, or perhaps, like many of us, the idea of airing your dirty linen in public is undignified, just provides fodder for the gossip sites, ramps up the rhetoric, doesn't help either side, in fact damages all involved.

And the old adage, least said, soonest mended, like so many old adages has a core of solid truth about it.

Except, there is always doubt, and it works differently for men and women. While women are always certain that the child is theirs, men can never be sure, and it is this single principle that is not only the reason for why we have patriarchy as an organising principle of people in all societies, and possibly always will, but also explains the narratives that have built up around the RF, and Charles, H, W, Diana, etc..

Now @Serenster you know you are not allowed to mention such things ( all in the past, move on, nothing to see ) or Meghan’s lies ( wedding 3 days beforehand, dancing in the street etc) as these things were YEARS ago .
However it is perfectly acceptable to drag up the Dimbleby interview from 30 years ago or William’s African party from 20 years ago .
