Just that really. The funeral will be on tv a couple of hours, I’ll record it to watch in the evening (kids would not be interested or have the attention to watch for that long).
shops and places to go are shut all day. Ideas what to do with the kids? It will feel like a lockdown day again. I will want to go out, but then feel people will judge me for not watching the tv grieving, but then if I see them out they’re not watching it either.
Would just like peoples thoughts, DH thinks I’ve got no heart because I’ve even thought about a day out with the kids 🤷‍♀️

I'm watching it all from start to finish.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 17/09/2022 18:49

I’ll be finishing a 24 hour shift.

I’ll be home in time to have a shower and watch it.

I find the history of the monarchy really interesting and this is ‘a moment’.

Exactly.

We're on holiday, everything in the hotel and surrounding area is closed.

We'll probably take the morning slow, walk to the beach with a picnic, find a play park for the kids, and then hopefully find somewhere open for dinner.

If no where is open for dinner then I'm not sure what we'll do about food. As they've annoyingly closed the hotel restaurant and we have no cooking facilities.

berksandbeyond · 17/09/2022 19:02

I'll watch it.
We're going to meet some friends at a park with the kids in the afternoon, it will indeed feel like a lockdown day again.

RaraRachael · 17/09/2022 19:32

We'll be watching the funeral on TV and raising a glass to toast the queen's memory. I'll probably watch the hearse procession on its way to Windsor as I used to live in that area.

carrotsandpeaass · 17/09/2022 19:39

We are going to watch the funeral in comfy clothes and have something nice for breakfast.
We don't often get a day where we are all at home with no plans, so we are going to take the opportunity to have a restful day and watch a big moment in history.

britneyisfree · 17/09/2022 19:46

Going to see my Family with DD and have a lovely day. I don't know if the funeral will be on or not.

elizaregina · 17/09/2022 19:49

Relaxing hopefully, perhaps do an afternoon tea?
I'll be watching all day,I expect I will be calling DC at various points but otherwise the usual.

Hm2020 · 17/09/2022 20:43

Watching the funeral as a family having shepherds pie my ds will probably only watch glimpses in between playing I’m in central London and even our local shops are planning to close which surprised me.

bellamountain · 17/09/2022 20:49

It will feel like lockdown with everything shut. Most likely we'll go on a bike ride with the kids.

toomanypillows · 17/09/2022 21:01

I'll be working. I teach and it happens to be a day when I have three double A Level lessons, so I'll need to spend the day completely replanning them to try to resqueeze them into the term.

Babyroobs · 17/09/2022 21:05

We will watch it on TV, have an afternoon tea, scones and jam and a drink. Might get out the best china that we use for afternoon teas.

tigger1001 · 17/09/2022 21:07

My work is closed but we have been told we can work if we want, and take toil. I will work for a few hours in the morning and study in the afternoon

Farmerazza · 17/09/2022 21:10

As if there isn’t enough sadness in the world. I’m not making my kids watch a funeral. I’m working, thankfully from home, then baking :)

Daydreambeliever1175 · 17/09/2022 21:14

My 11 year old needs round the clock care/ supervision due to his needs (developmental age of 2), so the day will be taken up with him.
I'd like to watch the funeral, but it won't be possible as he's constantly on the go.
It's times like this when I feel it.

H1Drangea · 17/09/2022 21:15

We’ll be watching
Its just DH and me at home , DD will be messaging or FaceTiming me so we can watch almost together ( and I can tell her who everyone is )
We’re hoping to drive down to the coast in the afternoon , just to get some fresh air and a change of scenery
I know I’ll be in tears watching it , and it’s history , I want to watch it

Indoctro · 17/09/2022 21:20

Watching it with my 6/8 year old boys and I'm doing a afternoon tea as told them the Queen likes it

Then we going up a local hill for a walk in afternoon as a family with the dog.

RancidOldHag · 17/09/2022 21:23

My original plans for this weekend got thrown in to disarray - DH has to work. So I'm going to a family event tomorrow solo, and then will stay on at my Mum's for the Bank Hol. So yes the telly will be on. Charles is the 5th monarch in her lifetime, I hope she's going to tell me how the ceremonies compare!

She's very happy to be singing 'God Save The King' again - they're the words that were engrained in her youth

snowballer · 17/09/2022 21:30

Wow!

Lochroy · 17/09/2022 21:30

I'll try and watch but I don't think the kids will give me more than ten minutes' peace. So we will have to take them out at some point. I'm assuming the playground won't be locked closed. I think everything else will be.

And if it stays dry and decent, I would really like to get the grass cut in the afternoon because we haven't had a chance for ages, but I'm not sure that we should...

My son is now 31 and needs 2-1 round the clock care. I have him at home with me and the help of a team of carers but it wasn’t always like this and until he was about 20 I had absolutely no life of my own.

I hear you 💐❤️

giggly · 17/09/2022 21:32

Working, god forbid the fallout if the NHS gave staff the day off, unlike every other publicity sector worker.

HideousKinky · 17/09/2022 21:38

I will be watching the funeral, but DH has absolutely no interest - he's not British and his country doesn't have a king/queen so he is just baffled by monarchy and all its rituals!
I think everyone should spend the day as they wish and not feel constrained by any feelings about what they "ought" to be doing. It is not heartless to go out for the day with your children. Enjoy!

The hotel restaurant is closed! Where on earth do they think their guests are going to eat if every other restaurant has the same idea. Where are you staying?
