Seen lots of posts in various places saying that referring to Kate Middleton is disrespectful. I don't agree:

She was born a Middleton and that's her name and family history;
She's simply a person like the rest of us and doesn't deserve any more respect than the average person because of who she married or what her job title is;
The Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Cambridge or whatever are essentially job titles and not names.

To make it clear I rather like Kate and have no problem with her. I do have a problem with people expecting me to show deference and telling me off like a naughty ten year old who's been disrespectful to the teacher.

Nothing wrong with calling her Kate or Catherine. William calls her Kate.

Thoughts? Comments?

The equivalent of Lady Di would be Duchess Kate, I once referred to her as that here and was thoroughly mocked.

She’s been married over a decade, Middleton isn’t her name anymore. It’s really rude to insist on calling her that. If someone repeatedly called me by my maiden name despite knowing my married name, that I’ve had for several years, I’d think it very rude. Not sure how you’re missing this?

Really? I've been married 10 years and I couldn't get offended by something so petty.

Lady Di was her title before she married Charles, so the equivalent would just be Kate.

Funny as I see my maiden name as who I am, not my married name which I just use for admin ease.

I agree @Starmtn77 , awful to be known in history as Mrs John Smith. Gravestones with "And wife of the above" really bother me too.

My DM has asked me to put both her married and maiden names on her gravestone because after 50 years she still identifies most with her maiden name.

That is an English habit, in Scotland gravestones use a woman's 'maiden' name because historically in Scotland women didn't change their name on marriage. To insist a woman is named after the man who owns her is a bit Handmaid's Tale.

I refer to her as Baron Carrickfergus’s wife. Keeps it simple 🤷‍♀️

Well, I’m crying for her. She’s only just sewn on 3 sets of nametapes on 3sets of entire school uniforms and the whole lot has to be changed as the kids are now George, Charlotte and Louis Wales.

🤣🤣

We have my mother's married and maiden name on her headstone.

Do people actually tell you off? That's bizarre. I'm sure no one is arsed in real life away from the Internet, least of all her.
