I thought it was lovely that William went to Deborah James’s house to give her the Damehood . Judging by the photos and her comments , it was a lovely afternoon.
I think W is going to be a very different King.

The photos are lovely, she looks so happy and he looks very relaxed, not an awkward visit. Well done William if you have brought a little joy in that family with all they are going through. I'm sure he could empathise with the children losing their mother when close to his age when it happened to him.

Shouldbedoing · 14/05/2022 11:59

I thought it was lovely too

Badger1970 · 14/05/2022 12:05

I agree that it will leave her family with some amazing memories. I think William seems able to "read the room" a little better than older family members, that's for sure.

She looks dreadful unwell though, and that's really sad to see.

Amdone123 · 14/05/2022 12:05

I thought it was lovely, too. I saw the photos and felt so emotional. Life is so cruel sometimes.
I love William. He's my favourite royal.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 14/05/2022 12:10

She is going out in true Deborah James style, she was never going to leave this world quietly!

Good for her, she has divided opinion at times over the last few years, but she is definitely one of a kind and the world will be a more boring place without her in it ❤

Samcro · 14/05/2022 12:11

so glad he went and did it. she is amazing (haven't followed her story)

Hintofreality · 14/05/2022 12:15

Lovely for her but woykd not have happened had she been a single Mother of three from a Council Estate. Privilege goes to the Privileged.
There are many doing their bit to raise cancer awareness without the benefit of a PR team and wealth. Where’s their awards?

Why is there always one - this woman may have not been poor but she wasn’t a celebrity. What she’s achieved is amazing and she’s doing it to hopefully save the next Deborah who may just live on a council estate! So please remove your negativity

Not negativity, a dose of realism. She wasn’t a celebrity but became one.
Deborah on the council estate is equally worthy of peiple’s tepeact and sympathy but doesn’t get it because she doesn’t have a PR team and agent.

For goodness sake - I am so sick of this race to the bottom about supposed 'privilege'. She was a deputy head teacher for goodness sake - hardly Jeff Bezos.

Sillystripytail · 14/05/2022 12:29

Jesus Christ @Hintofreality

She's in the public eye, of course she's going to get more public sympathy! We don't know about "Deborah from the council estate" do we?

Also, she used to be a teacher which is admirable in itself. She was an unknown like the rest of us and I'm sure she'd exchange all her "fame" if she could live to see her children grow up.

TheVolturi · 14/05/2022 12:39

So emotional seeing the photos. Deborah is truly inspirational, she's grabbed life with both hands and made the most of the time she's had since being diagnosed and made it her duty to help save others as well.

Her husband is very wealthy. As in very wealthy. They are a well connected family and that coupled with her own personality is a big part of how she has managed to achieve what she has.

Who cares though really? I'm sure she would give it all up to, ya know, not be dying of cancer in the upcoming days Sad

theyhavenothingbuttheaudacity · 14/05/2022 12:48

Who cares if she gets more attention than someone in a different situation the money raised will benefit everyone

JacquelineCarlyle · 14/05/2022 12:55

I thought it was really lovely too.

Her story is so sad and I agree with the posters who have said they believe she'd give it all up to live long enough to see her children grow up.

She's truly inspirational and has made the absolute best of the hand she's been dealt in life.

Stop being so horrible. Her dying early from a vile disease is not privileged. Think of her family if you can bear to think of anyone other than yourself. What a mean, nasty thing to say about a dying woman who has raised millions to help other people- possibly people you know!!!!

nasty award today goes to @Hintofreality

And who do you think she is doing this for ?
Those who may not be privileged or have a voice.

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 14/05/2022 12:58

I do get what the PP is trying to say. For every Deborah James, there are thousands and thousands of people, both on and off social media, in exactly her position who don't get any recognition at all and who haven't had the 'privileges' she has had. But then that's just life isn't it?

And while there is not doubt that money bought her years more life than she would have otherwise had, at the end of the day she is going to die at the age of 40, leaving two teenage children behind. So what does it all matter really?

Sunnysideup999 · 14/05/2022 13:00

So lovely . She looked amazing - clearly so desperately ill but there she was - resplendent in her beautiful dress and earrings and nails done and Lippy on and smiling all the way. What a wonderful human being she is .

she looked beautiful didn’t she. I obviously haven’t thought about it before and it surprised me to see someone so desperately unwell look so radiant beautiful and happy

How sad that we couldn't have one 100% positive thread.

ivykaty44 · 14/05/2022 14:51

Ive lost two people close to me from bowel cancer, one just ignored all the symptoms sadly. by the time he collapsed and was taken to hospital he had 4 months.

Its such an important fact for people to raise awareness, Jade Goode did similar with her cancer and promoted screening. If the actions of Deborah James saves someone else as they find the cancer earlier

Exactly- so what if she’s the poster child for bowel cancer
Azalyia Cain was for childhood leukaemia
jade Goody was for hers

kate Garraway is highlighting the plight of carers

trust me none of these people want to be!!! in no way does it diminish what other people are going through
