Sadly I think we may see HM a couple of times during the Jubilee, and then not much more.

I hope she lives the rest of her life as she wishes and without having to bother too much with her duties.

She is 96, she will fade more and more now. I'm not a royalist but I'm very saddened at the thought of her dying.

BreakorMake · 09/05/2022 22:16

She won't hand over, Charles is not to be seen, all seems very quiet on the RF front these days.

I have no view either way on HM, but I suspect she will be ok for a good while yet, but will not be seen in public much anymore.

Kinneddar · 09/05/2022 22:19

Shes done blooming well being so active this long. I think after the jubilee she'll more or less be monarch in name only & Charles & William will take on her duties

Cats1234567 · 09/05/2022 22:25

Bless her I absolutely love the queen. Will be very sad to hear of her passing when her time comes 😥

dolphinsarentcommon · 09/05/2022 22:30

And so they should @Kinneddar. She deserves some retirement and to be able to stop having to explain herself all the time.

And we’ll be seeing more of Prince William in ceremonial roles.

Dodie66 · 09/05/2022 22:35

Charles and William are now counsellors of state which allow them to open parliament on her behalf, read here www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/news/scottish-news/prince-charles-teetering-edge-becoming-26918982

dolphinsarentcommon · 09/05/2022 22:36

They need to sort out Counsellors of State IMO and replace Andrew and Harry. Irrespective of opinion on their behaviour, neither are actively working for the monarchy.

I don't think she will last much longer, bless her soul. Sad I predict that we will lose her before the end of 2023. I don't think she will see her 100th birthday.

Joystir59 · 10/05/2022 16:44

I've just watched bits of Prince Charles delivering the queen's speech and he looks really old and frail himself to be honest. He could go before or soon after the Queen.

Gilmorehill · 10/05/2022 18:05

I used to be certain she’d live to a hundred but I think you’re right. Bless her.

EdithWeston · 10/05/2022 20:48

She might have a few years in her yet. But I think we'll see a Charles Regency, whether de facto or declared (and if to be declared, I doubt it would be before autumn - about when they return from Balmoral

Couldn't make it up.

That's the monarchy for you.

LakieLady · 10/05/2022 22:20

Charles sounded so reluctant reading the speech, I half expected him to look up and say "I'm not reading this, it's shit".

I'm loath to say it, but a friend who works in elderly care maintains that once old people "go off their legs", they usually fade away fairly soon after.

Going 'off your legs' is a phrase used to describe a stage in the process of end of life/active dying. Not someone with age related mobility issues.

PineMartenPeanutbutter · 11/05/2022 05:28

Charles and William looked sad, deflated and uneasy. I really think when Charles becomes King everything will fall apart. No one will have much enthusiasm for him or his reign. William looks strained and unhappy a lot of the time these days too.

Gooseysgirl · 11/05/2022 05:39

Yeah Charles did not have me convinced that he had any degree of confidence in what he was reading!! William totally lost me when he said 'we are not a racist family' last year because that is complete and utter bullshit.

BillLius · 11/05/2022 07:22

The monarchy should slim down to the Netherlands model as who knows who King William’s siblings are and Queen Max always looks delighted.

That's Charles' stated aim, which he's been on about for years.

He'll need to keep the Wessexes on duties for a while, and Anne until she decides to retire (she's 71) because other wise it would be just him and William (plus spouses) and I think that might be too abrupt a step.

Right now it's monarch plus 4 (with spouses)

I think with the accession that'll become monarch plus 3, reducing to 2 if/when Anne retires.

Obviously the other royals who have a few charity role would keep them, but they wouldn't be doing much other than the causes for which they are an obvious good match

That's been the plan for years.

And the Dutch royal family have had quite a few scandals and are not very popular. It's just that they're much less internationally famous than the British royal family, so we tend not to hear about it. Two years ago, the king and queen had to make a televised apology for holidaying in Greece in breach of lockdown rules.

The crown being driven to Westminster reminded me of the Monty Python sketch where David Niven sends his fridge to stand in for him at the Oscars.
