Sadly I think we may see HM a couple of times during the Jubilee, and then not much more.

I hope she lives the rest of her life as she wishes and without having to bother too much with her duties.

OP posts:

Actually, I think the Queen read the speech, refused to read out this bloody bollocks and sent Charles out to deputise, leaving the ultimate choice up to him as to whether to carry on with this charade or not. From his manner, he doesn’t. Viva La republique.

Pmsl.

Could the monarchy abolish itself, constitutionally speaking? What would happen if they all abdicated in turn, in order of succession, one after another?

We might end up with Danny Dyer or one of the other "celebs" revealed as descended from Edward III or William IV or something as head of state.

CathyorClaire · 11/05/2022 21:24

The monarchy should slim down to the Netherlands model

I say it every time on these threads but that would suit Charles down to the ground.

The plebs lap it up while his own bloated lifestle isn't imperilled in the slightest.

Mobility issues? Why can’t she be in a wheelchair? I’m not saying she should necessarily be ‘working’ (what the Royals do is not ‘working’ anyway) but be honest why!

BillLius · 11/05/2022 22:41

She could have a gold Nobility Scooter.

I don't know much about Charles but seeing him on the cover of the guardian this morning I thought he looked so sad and wondered if he was thinking how awful it was that his mother couldn't be there

Gilmorehill · 11/05/2022 23:11

He’s been very fortunate to have two parents who stayed in amazing health until he was also an old man. My dh is in his situation with his dgm. She is 95 and was a Maggie Smith type matriarch who ran the family business with an iron first until a couple of years ago. The ILs are struggling with how frail she is now. It’s like there’s a missing piece in the family.

I thought the same. He looked similar to how he seemed after visiting his father in hospital. William also looked sad.

Our neighbour died in her nineties and her son who had just turned 70 was in tatters every time we met him for years. I think he just saw her going on forever (she was the loveliest, hardiest woman).

They need to sort out Counsellors of State IMO and replace Andrew and Harry. Irrespective of opinion on their behaviour, neither are actively working for the monarchy.

Very true or will they wait until QE dies and then they can appoint new ones.

Britain has a great system in place so the Queen should not worry about missing more and more engagements should her health require her to slow down. Prince Charles read the speech, written by the Prime Minister, as well as the Queen would have. The BRF assists the UK and the Commonwealth to remain some of the most stable governments in the World.

That won't help hugely, as they are still currently bound by law to appoint the consort (optional) and the first four in the line of succession who are over 21 (direct heir only needs to be 18,but that won't be relevant for George unless his father acceeds on the next decade or so)

Harry could be suspended from the role on the grounds he is resident overseas (there is already provision for that), but no mechanism for dealing with Andrew (I wish he'd just quit from the role, and I can't see any reason why an incumbent could not step down)

So on Charles accession the new ones would be

Camilla (optional) William, Harry (overseas) Andrew (ugh) and Beatrice.

If Harry and Andrew left the roles, then it would be Camilla, William, Beatrice, Eugenie and Edward

It's not a problem because she has Counsellors of State to deputise for her, as has been pointed out to you already.

Great to see HM enjoying Royal Windsor, she has her priorities right 😉

As someone just pointed out on Twitter, who else would get away with missing their most important work engagement of the year and then two days later rock up very publicly at a horse show! 😂

BadgerB · 13/05/2022 16:05

Never mind about the actual crown - I really enjoyed the "red velvet hat on a stick" carried by a flunky in medieval uniform....

Love all this ridiculous flummery. So much better than having to turn out and vote for a non-political president

Mmmm yes, Michael Gove and Boris elected with a minority. A truly great system.

Strong, stable corruption and Boris is not Putin. We have much to be thankful for. Raise that sovereign grant, long may the scroungers prosper.

Grin

Their keyboard, my thoughts.

It might appear that her most majestic maj is trolling the nation...

Well that's someone who is totally ignorant of the whole concept of fit notes, limited/light duties etc, and has no understanding whatsoever that different activities put different strains on the body

BreakorMake · 13/05/2022 21:22

She is looking great at the horseshow. Trolling the nation is one way of looking at it. Way to go Ma'am, the century birthday is looking good now and to hell with the peasants.

It was a joke... 🙄
