Who advised the Queen to walk into the Abbey escorted by Andrew??

This seems to be the most tone deaf and damaging decision. It's a public facing event with international leaders and royals. If it was a closed family gathering I could understand it - he is her son still- but why on earth would they allow him to escort her to her seat?! He should be invisible from now on and never represent the RF again. He could have attended and stood somewhere out of the way. She could have chosen anyone to escort her. It's staggeringly awful!

Awful, awful decision.

Parker231 · 29/03/2022 13:52

@AndAsIfByMagic

Her choice, her husband's memorial, her business.
Exactly - Prince Andrew is her son and the event relates to his father. It’s hardly going to sneak in the back door at what is a family event
Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 13:52

He’s still her son. And whether we like it or not, he’s not been convicted of a crime

His mother paid many millions to ensure he was not convicted for his crimes, that does not make him innocent it just makes him very indulged and protected. We will now never know what he didn't or didn't do, but given the size of the payoff and his banishment we can safely assume he was not baking cookies with Jefferey Epstein.

Chloemol · 29/03/2022 13:52

Get over yourself

She is a 95 year old woman attending her husband memorial service in public for the first time in ages and wants one of her sons to escort her.

Let’s also remember he has not been found guilty in a court of law, has removed himself from public duty, but of course he is going to attend his fathers memorial service, and unlike the rest of us it’s always going to be public rather than private

He met no one, shook no hands, appeared on TV for a time fraction of time

Just move on and leave the Queen alone

LondonWolf · 29/03/2022 13:52

He should be locked up in the tower and fed gruel only once a day!

dworky · 29/03/2022 13:53

@Escarpahell

Her husband, her choice.
Her paedo son, her misjudgement.
Riseholme · 29/03/2022 13:53

I think its a very public message that she won't exclude Andrew.
Whether or not its wise is a different matter.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 29/03/2022 13:53

She can have whoever she wants - her son - to accompany her to remember her husband, and his father.

Well yes, that's the royal way. 'I'll have what I want'. Certainly Andrew's way, whether it's dodgy deals or access to trafficked teens' bodies.

We don’t know she paid millions, it’s press speculation as they don’t know how he could afford it.
Favourodds · 29/03/2022 13:54

He's her son. She is an old woman. It really is, unfortunately, as simple as that.

Well, it's not though, is it? She's not a random little old lady pottering about with her son.

She's the Queen. And he's...a disgrace.

Sharrowgirl · 29/03/2022 13:54

Anyone know the significance of the colour green? Lots of ladies wearing it….

Favourodds · 29/03/2022 13:55

Well, it's not though, is it? Noone here is discussing the little old lady at the end of their road and her son.

TinyTortoise · 29/03/2022 13:55

@crumpet

I don’t think the outrage is justified- as others have said, this is to mark his father and he was helping his mother.

In many ways it was quite a neat solution - helping her in and out of the side door meant that he avoided the parading out of the front door like the others

Except that the headlines across BBC, Times, Guardian and no doubt elsewhere are "Prince Andrew escorts Queen..." and not about the memorial.

I thought they didn't usually coordinate colours, but the Queen, her DD and her DILs were all in it.
PurpleDaisies · 29/03/2022 13:56

The best thing he could have done for his mother is to have a prior engagement that day.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 13:56

The real contempt for me lies in the paying abuse victims to stay quiet, and by silencing so many and depriving them of closure, and by extension causing permanent and irreparable damage to the confidence in the justice systems both here and in the US to those that are being abused now, or will be in the future.

Many abuse victims may decide there is no point in reporting - because the rich and the famous will always find a way to escape the law and justice. And who could blame them.

EdithWeston · 29/03/2022 13:58

Not true for either BBC or Guardian

Can't check Times as I dont subscribe

SueSaid · 29/03/2022 13:58

Maybe the Queen wanted to show her public support for her son. Maybe she believes him and not the media or any allegations.

It surely can't have been an oversight, they must have all discussed it. She'll have known exactly what message it was sending.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 29/03/2022 13:59

They should have made it a private service, rather than a monarchical shitfest.

I'm finding all this 'she's the queen she can do what she likes' running parallel with 'she's just a poor old lady be kind' obsequiousness rather peculiar.

She's our Head of State ffs. She's either up to it or she should step aside.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 13:59

We do know that the Queen picked up the bill to silence Andrew's victims. See link:

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2022/02/15/queen-help-pay-12m-prince-andrew-settlement/

He hasn't got a pot to piss in, and his contribution will be the Swiss chalet when it finally sells.

Febrier · 29/03/2022 14:00

Her choice, her husband's memorial, her business

Yep, and it sends a clear message about their values.

Maybe she's literally keeping him on a short leash.

I did not need that image!

Gilly12345 · 29/03/2022 14:00

Her favourite son 😂😂

derxa · 29/03/2022 14:01

@Mumdiva99

After seeing her sitting alone at the funeral I couldn't care less who escorts her.....just so long as she is escorted and looked after. I thought the image of her at the funeral was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. (And yes I know it happened for other people too during Covid, and I feel the same empathy for them).
Totally
Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 14:01

And to hell with his victims now they have been muzzled. Business as usual just weeks later.

This is a major misstep.

Hertsgirl10 · 29/03/2022 14:03

She’s the Queen I’m sure it’s up to her who walks with her at her own husbands memorial, also it is his dad’s memorial.

Regardless of what any of us think of the pervy Prince, this is their family and I would never like to be the ‘advising’ a 90 odd year old woman anything let alone the Queen.
