Jubilee Celebrations

Hello

I am helping to host a street party for my neighbours, most of whom are elderly, to celebrate the Queen' Jubilee.

We will be playing Royal Bingo and Pin The Tail On The Corgi.

I will be putting up bunting and playing music from seventy years ago.

If anyone has got any other ideas or games that could be played I would be very grateful.

Thank you Flowers

I like your thinking re the pinning type games. Best stick to an actual animal, rather than the RF member that first springs to mind.

You need a buffet that involves Coronation Chicken, plus whatever the Jubilee Pudding is.

And have a playlist that includes the biggest selling single of every year of her reign. Or if that's too long, one for every five years or so

"playing music from seventy years ago" - makes it sound ancient. How about just a 50s themed party? Jive competition. Elvis impersonation competition. Hula hooping. 50s trivia quiz. Ice cream floats.

We are having a wheelie bin decorating competition and race, a tug of war, novelty dog show, cake baking competition and a children's fancy dress competition

Sounds great fun DENMAN03

Can I move to your street instead? It would be a lot less hassle. Grin

Will there be any children ?
At the Golden Jubilee my dc really enjoyed some old fashioned races (sack race, egg and spoon race) and the fancy dress, just as we had done at the Silver Jubilee.
Generally, older folk do like to see little ones enjoying themselves.

Street parties celebrations ?? For a Woman celebrating a jubilee..The same woman who since covid started has not spoke to the Nation we will get through this..even in a proper safe environment to protect her. What did she do for the nation..rode her horses in the grounds of of one of her big estates. Embarrassing to say the least..Yes she lost her partner/ prince/ husband as many of us lost family to covid or other causes..350 million to be spend on upgrading Buckingham Palace using our money.
Please don't say money comes from duchy of ?? Or ?? It is not it's our money..why would anyone hold a party for someone who's shown it's OK to hide away and not support your citizens..

Why don't you jog on? No one's asking you to go, Mrs Fun Sponge.

I understand how you both feel NarcissasMumInTheDoghouse and littleangel50 and I can assure you that nobody is more disgusted than I am regarding the behaviour of HM's 'favourite' son especially after today's memorial service Angry

However, there are a lot of elderly people on my street who have the utmost respect for the Queen and they have endured a very difficult and lonely few years. Many of them have lost friends and contemporaries so I am just trying to do something nice for them that they can join in with (it will literally be outside their front door).

It is a lot of extra work for me. I have a job and two children-one with SEN and in all honesty I could do without the hassle but I thought it would be a nice event for some of my neighbours to look forward to.

Well, it's only a little over two months away now, so today I'm going to start growing my forelock, so I can tug it heartily in June. In my area we are going to have competitions for the over-60s, in fawning, bowing and scraping (boring cliches, yawn) and a How-fast-can-you-put-a-tent-up-in-the-Mall competition.
Enjoy your preparations.

Mumsnet is probably not the best place to ask about this as there seem to be far more republicans here than I come across IRL. Anyway, for what it’s worth, I like a jubilee celebration - our village is doing a bonfire on the Saturday night with bbq etc, then a community picnic on the Sunday with children’s sports and a procession (not sure what of), plus a decorate your house competition.
And you know what, anti-royals just don’t have to join in!

There was a good street party here for the Golden Jubilee.

The two things that really stuck in my memory were the usually achingly cool teens having an absolute blast in an over-competitive egg and spoon race, and I thought how generations have come together over the years, doing similar events, handing on that bit of community

The other was watching the curate trying to summon the courage to ask who he really wanted to be tied to in the three-legged race

Thanks for the helpful replies-much appreciated Smile Hopefully it will be a nice day enjoyed by all generations. The youngest coming is eight months old and the oldest is 98 so quite a range of ages.

To the others piss takers like I said I'm only trying to do something nice for people who have had an extremely rubbish few years Sad

It sounds odd but when we had a previous street party everyone loved pass the parcel - especially the grown ups - we passed it up and down the table. I plan to do the same at this years.
Gingerbread man decorating went down well too with the adults as well as the children.

Oh the irony. I have been bedridden 3 years due to a health condition and can't stand or walk either so I'd love to jog on. Over the decades from 13. I organised a Spring Fayre with the funds raised to have the First Ever Event on our Council Estate which funded the Queen's Silver Jubilee Party..It went so well a committee was formed and Annual Trips to the Seaside were funded from our Local Community,
Businesses, Charities and Individuals..I think the idea of everyday people going out of their way to make a Special Day for Young and Old in their communities is Commendable and the joy on the faces of young and old is Priceless..Just they enjoy the celebrations. In the Name of Community not a Monarchs Day.

Our Town now holds an Annual Summer Fayre, Night Time Halloween Walk, Yearly Sports Day, and more
