Buckingham Palace has announced.

Mild “cold like” symptoms apparently, but I bet there’s a lot of worried courtiers and politicians right now!

@nether

That sounds like your GP passed you on to a CMDU (who are Hospital based) who arranged your hospital treatment (those in the 4 jabs group are all potentially eligible). The GP cannot do more than that.

You should have had the red box PCR to keep at home, but any PCR test will set off the same chain of events, as it's linked to your name/dob and NHS number, and should get you a call from CMDU directly, but if none forthcoming and you believe yourself eligible then GP can (and in your case did) prod the system. But GPs are not the decision makers, they can neither prescribe nor provide the drugs.

And there is no provision for an age category. So either the age of the other patients you saw was coincidence, or they had access via PANORAMIC

I know what the procedure is supposed to be. However like most things there are ways around it. My GP did almost all of the arrangements with the hospital and there is leeway in the system, rather than just coincidence. I didn't just turn up and get in with it. In the unit there was a lot of chat between patients and staff too. The CMDU did not call me automatically at all - that didn't occur until the GP spoke to me and it all happened extremely quickly from that, not from an automatic trigger.

My point is that the chances are many very elderly patients could access the antiviral infusion in different ways based on my own experience.

I'm not going to argue. I had the treatment despite not having the red box PCR sent to me, as had other people at the hospital, and they were organised via the GP doing the leg work.

And whilst there isn't officially an age category there really does appear to be ways around it, via other routes, through my own experience and that of others I spoke to. If the number of very elderly patients I spoke with a month ago were able to sort this, then I'm quite sure the queen's teams can.

@Monopolyiscrap

Only a small number of people are in the 4th jab category. Not all ecv people.
I know this. Other than for the first couple of weeks in March 20202 I was not classed as CEV, just CV. I was not sent a red box PCR. It was only in January I received the 4th vaccination letter.

And yes, I know how difficult it is to speak to a consultant. I've been doing it for years, with difficulty.

My own experience is that the GP is usually a quicker route as they can bypass some systems and barriers.

And I know what the official information regarding the treatment is.

I've literally just been through the system just under a month ago.

My GP did almost all of the arrangements with the hospital

Exactly. Your GP put you in to the hospital system (the CMDU) and they did it. It is misleading to suggest that GPs can prescribe or provide these drugs - they are hospital only. I'm glad you feel in safe hands with your GP, but their role in this is to put you in to the system if you did not arrive there anyhow

Elderly patients with an underlying condition can and will be accessing these treatments. But age in itself isn't sufficient (as you can see from what is on the list)

CMDU are fast, btw, as you are only eligible fir the first 5 days, and the first one (or more) is taken up by testing (which is why red box system introduced)

Trust me - I really have been through the systems - for this and all sorts of other stuff both pre-pandemic and all along during

Abraxan · 23/02/2022 08:07

At no point did I say the gp prescribed this treatment. None of my messages say that. I clearly said that the gp did all of the organising on my behalf. I spoke to the gp who then did all communication with the hospital unit. This is exactly what happened.

🤷🏻‍♀️

nether · 23/02/2022 08:15

My point is that all the GP did was put you in to the CMDU supystem.

I think it's important that people who are potentially eligible realise what the system is, and not expect GP to have any role other that putting into the system (which may well happen spontaneously, triggered by NHS number on positive PCR)

Thinking GP is the gateway to these drugs is wrong, and could cause avoidable delay. Because you cannot bypass CMDU, or the published eligibility criteria (though that might change over time, as supply stabilises and during times of lower case numbers)

If the Queen is going to be have any of these treatments, then she will have done by now.

Malibuismysecrethome · 26/02/2022 07:36

Hold on! There’s an anti-viral infusion available but it’s almost impossible to meet the criteria unless you are over a certain age? Wtf why wasn’t this administered to people who were sick with Covid it might have saved lives. Instead we had Nightingale hospitals set up at great expense then swiftly dismantled.

No - please RTFT

The criteria have been linked above and age is not one of them

Also, these drugs are new - they only became available outside trials last month

Because this is new.

People in the relevant groups have been contacted, and I think I also saw a poster about it in my GP’s waiting room.

According to the news today the Queen has begun to resume her normal duties, so I guess she must have recovered now. Smile Good news, and also gives hope to many people that Omicrom is indeed a mild variant, that even very elderly people can survive.

alltheapples · 01/03/2022 22:35

I am glad she has survived. But no it does not give me hope that my elderly parents will be okay if they catch this. They will not get the medical treatment the Queen did.

upinaballoon · 12/03/2022 08:42

The Queen is now over the Covid and she is seeing people face to face, i.e. at formal meetings. However, she doesn't seem to be walking far. I heard on the news that Prince Charles will represent her at the Commonwealth Service. I do not think she will want to miss the Memorial Service for Prince Philip, but I am beginning to wonder if she will have to have a bit of help from a wheelchair, to go to it. Of course, not all 95-year-old grannies take kindly to suggestions that a wheelchair might be useful.

Soffit · 14/03/2022 18:02

It is a shame that the Queen will be missing Commonwealth Day. It has been said that she is in the early stages of a mentally degenerative condition but I don't think it is fair on her to be hidden away just because she may behave a little oddly. It may be sound PR but it surely sends the wrong message to families with elderly relatives with similar conditions?

smilesy · 14/03/2022 18:39

It has been said that she is in the early stages of a mentally degenerative condition

Sorry, where has this been said?

Sorry, where has this been said?

It's also been said she's a lizard.

Doesnt make it true or worth repeating.

But advanced age is in itself a degenerative condition (both mentally and physically) so I suppose it could also be a statement of the bleedin obvious!
