It has been reported today that he has tested positive for covid for the second time. He seemed pretty ill the first time around, so hope it doesn't take so long this time for him to get better.

No, it would be Harry but if he declined it would be Andrew . This is why the whole business of Counsellors of State needs to be considered promptly .
Harry is domiciled overseas, which means his role as State Counsellor should be suspended unless/until he returns to live in the UK

Andrew has been removed from duties, but nothing has been done about role as State Counsellor - I wonder if they are stalling until after the conclusion of legal proceedings?

It follows the succession, adults only, and it's the first 4 (with consort as optional extra).

So Charles (unwell, but this of course theoretical as there's no suggestion he's so ill he can't WFH) , William in UAE (briefly!), Harry (domiciled overseas), Andrew (needs sorting out) - followed hypothetically by Beatrice (maternity leave?) and Eugenie (baby a bit older, but still potentially maternity leave). So next is Edward.

There might be the basis for an 'alternative reality' novel in that!!

And of course he doesn't wear a mask. The normal rules and laws do not apply to Royals. They do basically what they want.

While I appreciate your general sentiment, no one legally has to wear a mask now. So he isn’t using a special privilege to not wear one anymore.

blyn72 · 10/02/2022 18:17

I doubt Prince Charles will need a lot of care, I've known a couple of people who have tested positive twice and the second time were quite well. Of course they had to isolate for a while. I hope I'm right about Charles.

Surely the bank holiday won't be cancelled, many people will have booked a break away on the strength of that.

CrabPuff · 10/02/2022 18:32

Princess Anne would nail any decisions or running anything required. No need for these soft handed men!

FourChimneys · 10/02/2022 18:37

Cookerhood I agree, all sorts of things will have been planned.

Thankfully we are going somewhere remote so it will pass us by. Not interested in taking part in jollifications with the neighbours (some of whom are already planning a street picnic).

Viviennemary · 10/02/2022 18:39

It said on the news Camilla has tested negative for Covid. The Queen is showing no symptoms of Covid. So speculation is the Queen has Covid but no symptoms. Otherwise why not say the Queen tested negative.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 10/02/2022 18:43

Princess Anne would have been the best choice to come after the Queen.

ClariceQuiff · 10/02/2022 18:51

The Royals will doubtless be given anti-virals at the first hint of Covid.

The place he was visiting requires masks to be worn. Still. Hate the bloody royal family, they should do what the rest of us have to!

Didn’t he got to the National Gallery? They encourage the wearing of face masks, but it’s not mandatory. Unless he went to a healthcare setting, he nor anyone else is legally required to wear a mask.

smilesy · 10/02/2022 19:26

Sorry that last sentence doesn’t make sense. It should be is not legally required to wear a mask unless in a healthcare setting.

Monopolyiscrap · 10/02/2022 19:28

If it is encouraged, they should set a good example.

No not the National Gallery, but a place we are required to wear masks. Not healthcare either.

Exactly.
Cookerhood · 10/02/2022 21:36

@EdithWeston I read the other day that the queen ending up on the throne was the same at Beatrice (if she is the older of the two) becoming queen! That made my mind boggle.

Abraxan · 10/02/2022 21:39

@ClariceQuiff

Interesting that, once again, Camilla has tested negative - supports the theory that, for some reason, some individuals are more susceptible than others.
Like dh and dd. I've had covid twice and both have never caught it from me, despite not isolating within the house. Both have been around other cases. Dd has been in really close contact several times, including in a tent at a festival, in two different student houses, within schools, in her university classes and more.

Neither have tested positive and neither have had virus acquired antibodies when tested.

In thought they lived in different countries most of the time? Camilla in Scotland and Charles in England.
Abraxan · 10/02/2022 21:41

I am surprised he wasnt more careful before meeting her.

He probably is doing routine testing, including before he sees the queen.

He very likely tested negative before the visit but has tested positive since.

I went to school after testing negative and taught a number of classes. I had a headache during the afternoon and by the evening I was very clearly testing positive.

Abraxan · 10/02/2022 21:43

@FourChimneys

He will get better care than most people, I am sure. Hope he hasn't passed it onto his mum though.

Incidentally, and in the best of taste, what happens to the special bank holiday in June if the Queen is absent, for want of a better euphemism? We've booked a holiday, not willing to change that for anything.

I believe we still get the holiday. It's to commemorate the jubilee, an event that has already happened this weekend.
smilesy · 10/02/2022 21:48

If it is encouraged, they should set a good example.

Why? It is not a legal requirement and many people will presumably want to see the whole of their faces and their expressions. I don’t think they need to set an example. You don’t need to wear a mask in a pub although you are likely to be closer to someone in the pub than in an art gallery.

No not the National Gallery, but a place we are required to wear masks. Not healthcare either.

According to the government website, the only places where masks are mandatory is healthcare settings. And the only engagements Charles had were investitures and at the National Gallery.

Not in recent weeks, as they've been doing joint engagements this month, and appear to be in Clarence House (hosting receptions there)

He did do one other visit, quite low key although there is some reporting on it. And that was to a place that requires staff and visitors to wear a mask while walking around, which is what he was doing.

Do you have a link to where he was then? I’m confused because you say that it wasn’t a healthcare setting, but that is the only setting where a mask requirement can be enforced. Elsewhere, it can be requested that you wear a mask but it is not a legal requirement.

I can't link, because it would be incredibly outing for me!
