Regardless of how you may feel about them, it's a lovely family photo.

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight

That red hair gene is strong - gorgeous colour
Where does it come from? Duke of Edinburgh had a reddish tint, but nothing like the bright red of Harry and Archie.
Maireas · 24/12/2021 11:57

Look at the Spencer family. A lot of redheads, including Diana's brother Charles and sister Sarah.
Also a few of the cousins.

rubicscubicle · 24/12/2021 12:02

I think the red hair mostly comes from the Spencer family.

I would have said that Charles Spencer's hair is blonde. But one of the sisters has red hair. Neither of their parents did though.

Maireas · 24/12/2021 12:30

Charles was definitely a reddish blond.
It's certainly a feature with the Soencers!.

I think it a nice photo. However, I personally think it a bit weird and a bit narcissistic to have pictures of yourself on Christmas Cards, which ALL the RF do, and also I have a relative that does that as well. Also, it is very American to say Happy Holidays rather than use the word Christmas, despite having a large Christian population in the US.

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 23:18

Happy Holidays is the accepted phrase to use in America. We find it strange in the UK, but it is what polite people say.

I always assumed the RF releasing a family picture was just part of their general “deal” with the press of releasing pics at birthdays/Christmas/starting school etc. People would complain if they didn’t (I wouldn’t, but I think some people would). And I guess for M&H it’s a partly royal thing, partly American thing - the only family picture Christmas cards my parents get are from friends in America.
NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 25/12/2021 21:41

I honestly just need Meghan’s skincare routine and hair tips. Just beautiful.

upinaballoon · 25/12/2021 23:20

At Christmas 1911 a great aunt of mine had a family photo taken and made into a post card and she sent it as a Christmas card to her brother and sister-in-law. It was much more expensive in those days to produce a photograph to show what everyone was looking like and perhaps Christmas cards were expensive. She was definitely not a member of the aristocracy. I wonder if more people sent photos like that, as greetings, than do now, and the fashion carries on with members of the aristocracy and some Americans.(2 posts a little higher.)

Lovely pic in general, happy and relaxed feel.

Two criticisms- first, I think it's wrong to suggest having 1 child isn't a family. Second, they're all looking at Lili and Archie feels rather excluded to my eyes.

RoyalFamilyFan · 26/12/2021 00:48

The richest person I know sends a printed Christmas card with a photo of his family every year and a printed update. It is pretty naff tbh, but not unknown in Britain. Most of us just wouldn't waste our money doing this.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 27/12/2021 15:46

its a lovely pic that has been spoiled by being photo shopped / filtered.

Harry has more hair than you see in other photos (where he hasn't paid the photographer)

Archie's hair is an unusual shade of red/ginger and again I think it may have been edited

Why not just keep it totally natural?

BadgerB · 28/12/2021 18:19

Do hope Archie's hair is really that colour - it's beautiful, but I suspect may be photo-shopped. As has his father's thinning locks.

Roussette · 28/12/2021 21:27

Archie's balding already?!??
What a strange observation!

LOL Grin

I also doubt that the it was photoshopped. Just upthread I posted a picture of the Spencers with copper red hair, I think it was from before photoshop.
Also Harry is bald from the back and middle, not from the sides. He seems to have styled the hair, more like a blow-dry or something. They have also placed Lili a bit more forward so he won't have to turn his whole head to show the bald spot.

myrtleWilson · 29/12/2021 13:03

I don't think anyone has said Archie is balding have they?

Family photos on Christmas cards seems too "look at me" to the British but entire swathes of people on the continent, including many French people (if they send cards at all), see it as entirely normal. I live abroad and receive lots of them from people who are not show-offy at all. They often use a family photo, or a photo of just the dc, taken on their summer holidays. It's just culturally different that's all.

Printed, personalised cards are much more of the norm in general, it's different to what we do, but not viewed as narcissistic or naff. Often it is quite an economical, practical solution because they can be a single post card, printed on both sides, which is put in an addressed envelope , you don't have to take time signing it etc. And post is very expensive in some European countries if you deviate from the standard sized envelope.

I am sure that is more detail.than anyone wants to know Grin

Roussette · 29/12/2021 13:28

myrtle I've just read back and I thought the post said...

"I suspect may be photo-shopped. As he has his father's thinning locks"

There was no 'he' in it... I read it wrong ooopsie!

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 29/12/2021 13:56

Red hair is recessive so has to be passed on by both parents. Meghan must be a carrier for red hair. Her half brother Thomas Jr (pictured with Meghan as a baby) is a redhead.

Archie's hair looks lovely in the Christmas card - quite a deep red. Like others, I wasn't sure of the choice of wording in the card but do appreciate a beautiful photo.

Shinychestnuts, I liked the detail you gave about cards on the continent of Europe. It wasn't too much info for me.Smile

Thanks Upinaballoon! I think it is a tradition that's spread from USA originally I should have said!

Are they hobbits to avoid shoes in so many pictures? Jeans are never suitable for anything but hard labor. It rather lets down the side.
